A Message from the BFF Co-Chairs

Hello BFS Families and Friends!

We hope this note finds you healthy and having enjoyed some quality time with family and friends this summer.

As the co-chairs of the Brooklyn Friends and Families, (our school’s families association), we can’t wait to see all of you in a few weeks and we hope you join us with excited anticipation of the promises of this new year. While admittedly challenging, the pandemic’s restrictions last year forced us to again pause, evaluate, and reimagine how best we could serve the school and our community. We brought back some BFS traditions, and also tried some new events like SkateFest and SpringFest to great success. Building on lessons we learned, while also keeping in mind our core directives of supporting the school in its mission and building community, the BFF will continue to work in tandem with the school to connect our community members with one another, strengthen Blue Pride, and create plenty of opportunities to come together as a larger community!

Please take a few moments to review the Brooklyn Friends and Families Handbook. This comprehensive handbook, which was first published last September, but has since been updated, will reintroduce you to all things BFF, including who we are and how you can get involved!

Please also review the comprehensive calendar on the school website here. This page will be updated throughout the year. It is a key goal of ours to work with school leadership to ensure you know what’s happening, when it’s happening, and with enough advanced notice! PRO TIP: Take a minute to subscribe to the school calendars! Directions are included in this back-to-school manual.

We’d love to have you join us this year in whatever capacity you are able— especially if you’re a new family. This is a great way to feel quickly connected to our community. As often recited, “there are no small parts”, so whether you have an hour to give, or many, we just hope you’ll raise your hands. If you have any questions, would like to learn more, or to join a committee, please email us at bff@ brooklynfriends.org.

PS — we have several open Class Family Lead positions. Again, this position is a perfect role for a new family to immerse themselves into the community. Classroom Family Leads serve a vital role as community builders at BFS, within their class and grade as well as across the community as a whole.

Enjoy the last breath of summer. We look forward to seeing you September 6th at BFS’ Inaugural Family Day and throughout the first days of school as we gather again in downtown Brooklyn!
