Ed Osterwald Senior Partner CEG Europe Ed Osterwald is a Partner with CEG Europe, based in London. He applies deep experience in the oil, gas and chemical industries to understand key economic drivers. These insights are used to evaluate transactions, consider greenfield investments and make strategic decisions. Much of Osterwald’s client work focuses on mergers and acquisitions. He has also helped the industry adapt to the emergence of unconventional oil and gas, serving clients such as the government of Canada. He is frequently involved in oil and gas litigation involving market manipulation, trading and supply, and has written for The Economist on this subject. Originally trained in geology and geochemistry, Osterwald began his career at Mobil Corporation’s head office in New York, where most of his time was devoted to supply, trading and refinery operations. Thereafter, he became a Partner with Arthur Andersen and was charge of oil and gas in Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, India and Africa. He holds an MBA from Columbia University in New York. CEG applies expertise in economics and finance to address competition, regulation, disputes and commercial issues. CEG combines industry insights with financial and analytical skills to understand underlying values or the business issues in question. CEG’s Commercial Advice practice provides transaction support that includes portfolio strategy, market analysis and, target identification and due diligence; policy advice to governments such as energy master plans for governments to ensure maximum value is created for developing countries; and litigation support in oil and gas. In this, actual operational experience is essential. When combined with strategic and commercial expertise, it generates unique insights and effective results.
