Bradley Stoke Rainbows enjoy outdoor meetings By Catherine Dixon, leader he 1st Bradley Stoke Rainbows have finally been able to return to regular face-to-face meetings following the relaxation of coronavirus restrictions. We started the summer term meeting outdoors on alternate weeks and since June have been meeting together weekly. Typically, our first outdoor meeting took place in the pouring rain, but this didn’t stop us! We all arrived in our waterproofs and enjoyed umbrella dancing; the Rainbows then took the umbrellas home and decorated them. We have also been doing activities from the ‘Have Adventures’ theme of the Girlguiding programme, such as making sun dials, creating our own maps and finding out about famous explorers.

For Insect Week (21st-27th June) we visited the allotment at Southmead Hospital where we spent the evening looking for and identifying bugs in the allotment meadow and surrounding trees and building a bug hotel to help support biodiversity. We returned to the allotment a couple of weeks later when Phoebe (Nature Recovery Ranger) taught us all about the different fruits and vegetables growing in the allotment and then helped us to plant seeds. As well as our outdoor meetings we also had the opportunity, along with other Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers from across the local area to take park in a virtual planetarium session with an astrophysicist. ● To find out more, follow us on Twitter: @BSRainbows
