FREEDOM: A FIRST AMENDMENT CABARET—Inspired by a recent lawsuit in which the state of Idaho attempted to define what is and is not art, this vaudeville presentation is meant to be a cautionary tale of how quickly our civil liberties can be undermined and destroyed if we the people are not actively engaged in their protection. Enjoy an all-star lineup of Boisebased artists performing clowning, burlesque, puppetry, acrobatics and aerial acrobatics, drag, opera and belly dance, along with internationally renowned cabaret legend Armitage Shanks, “The Carny Preacher.” 9 p.m. $15 adv., $20 door. CONCERT FOR KIDS Sisters Allison, Meegan and Natalie Closner took the name of their band from the tiny town of Joseph, Ore. They were headed to the farming community to visit their grandfather. Allison compiled a road trip playlist titled “Joseph.” Almost immediately, the Closners— who had been performing as Dearborn—realized their connection to the place. “It just hit us all,” said Natalie. “That’s what this is and who we are, these are the sounds of the land that we’ve lived on.” Joseph is coming to Boise for the Concert for Kids, presented by 94.9 The River and Knitting Factory, benefiting the Idaho Youth Ranch. The all ages show is a shouldn’t-miss chance to catch a must-see band we’ll hear more about. (Joseph opens for Tim McGraw and Faith Hill on Thursday, May 25 at Taco Bell Arena.) BLT: CHARLEY’S AUNT—Jack loves Kitty and Charley loves Miss Amy. They invite the ladies to meet Charley’s wealthy aunt from Brazil, but the millionaire aunt sends the boys into cataclysmic confusion when she cancels her trip. The problem is solved by dressing their Oxford undergrad pal in bloomers and a wig.
