Shane has been helping a wide range of people throughout Marlborough since arriving in Blenheim two years ago. Born and raised in South Africa, Shane first began working in the finance industry after leaving school. He landed a job in a bank where he worked “a long time” on everything from customer service to exchange control. He left the bank to become a mortgage broker with a colleague but when the market ‘crashed’ and people weren’t applying for as many home loans, Shane went in a different direction and started a business in property management. In 2010 Shane and his family made the journey to New Zealand and lived in Christchurch where he joined the Loan Market brand. Unfortunately the earthquakes hit so the family relocated to Auckland, but it was after passing through Marlborough several times that the family decided this was where they wanted to settle. With him Shane has brought the Loan Market brand to Marlborough as well as his extensive experience in finance and property industries, and it’s this knowledge that enables him to understand people’s needs. “I am your knowledge bank... just ask and I will be able to assist,” he says. Shane will work alongside people who are looking to do everything from refinancing and applying for personal or business loans, right through to assisting first home buyers. He’s also very passionate about the benefits of KiwiSaver. “KiwiSaver is a fantastic tool and is hugely
beneficial to those wanting to get a home loan. I work with people to provide the right advice on their investments so that they are getting the most out of their KiwiSaver. “I’ve met people who didn’t have quite enough for a deposit so we’ve looked at their KiwiSaver and worked out how they can get from A to B. Often it hasn’t taken much to tweak their KiwiSaver and in no time, they’ve reached their goals,” he says. Because Shane specialises in first home buyers and the restructuring of existing mortgage finance, he’s the obvious choice for people wanting to find the best home loan terms and rates. Shane has regular contact with a variety of lenders and takes the hassle out of the application process. “First I sit down with the client to work through what their goals are, we look at their current financial situation and tailor a financial plan. I then send an application off to lenders and if I pick up on any issues along the way I can make adjustments. “What people need to know is that a mortgage broker works for the client, not the lender,” he says. One area of the business that is keeping Shane busy is working with young first home buyers. “It’s a lot to do with their KiwiSaver that helps them into their first homes.
