n intuitive leap led Cumberland jewellery designer Toby Krell to enrol in NIC’s Metal Jewellery Design program, giving her a new way to connect with people locally and around the world. After 30 years as a registered nurse, she wasn’t looking for a new career but something about jewellery-making intrigued her. “I’d taken a one-day course and made a pair of earrings, and then I saw the program and I kept thinking – it sounds so interesting,” said Krell. Canada to attend the certificate program, which attracts artists, beginners and retirees who want to expand their skills, start inspired careers and add creativity to their lives. “I met with some of the instructors and they were so positive and bright. It was really a leap for me but I like working with tools and figuring things out.” Her passion for learning and the encouragement from artisan instructors and fellow students kept her motivated to learn more. “It gave me the foundation to develop my own style,” said Krell.
