DAVIS, John (Jack) Wesley October 1, 1936 - December 22, 2014 ‘Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal’. (Anon) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jack Davis, longtime resident and local businessman in the Abbotsford/Chilliwack areas. Predeceased by his father John, his mother Doris and his sister Marlene, Jack is survived by his four children: Dan Davis and son Matthew (Patsy); Ken Davis (Ruth) and children Amy and Chase and Cheryll Corbett (James) and children Ashley (Jay) and Jesse; Cindy Vanderveen (Andy) and children Keith and Amanda (Joel), as well as great grandchildren—Morgan and Coleton, Jayden, Jackson and Emily. Jack also leaves his sisters Sheila Boese (Jim) and Barbara Renkers (Adrian) and brother-in-law, Paul Warren and his many nieces and nephews. Jack will be profoundly missed by the many friends he acquired over the years. He will also be missed by his beloved cat Smokey (aka Lukey) who he rescued earlier this year. Jack started his work life by working for his dad at Davis Equipment (John Deere) in Clearbrook as parts manager of the shop. He also started his family at this time and raised his four children in the local area and school district where he also served a number of years on the Board of Trustees. Jack was also active in the community at large and spent a number of years as a Matsqui Auxilliary Police member, a member of the Jay Cees then later Chamber of Commerce and the Kiwanis Club and the local businessmen’s association ‘the Hole in the Wall’. In the early 1970’s Jack started his second career in the Insurance Industry working for Federated Mutual. Jack then purchased Yale Realty in Chilliwack which he developed into Chilliwack Insurance and spent his remaining work life building into a very successful agency. Jack became well known and respected throughout the Lower Mainland for his ethics and expertise and retired from Chilliwack Insurance in 2010. Jack delighted in being in the company of family and friends. Throughout the years Jack loved camping and fishing and he could fix or build just about anything. He was also a gardner extraordinnarie and his manicured lawns and shrubberies were first class. Jack loved playing and watching hockey, loved western music and enjoying social events, dining and travelling. His favorite holiday spot was Mexico and he often took family and friends along with him to share in the sun and fun he found so appealing. The family would like to thank the dedicated team of caregivers at the Mission Memorial Hospital and of late at the TRIM facility in Mission for their compassionate care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice in his name. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at 10:00 am at Henderson’s Fraser Valley Funeral Home, 34537 Marshall Rd., Abbotsford, BC. ‘Wishing you peace, happiness and a garden to tend in heaven Dad. We will love and miss you always’. Tributes and condolences may be left at www.hendersonsabbotsfordfunerals.com
