Dan Royea, 1986 Daniel Joseph Royea June 22, 1964 – Nov 12, 2014 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father, son, brother and uncle on Nov. 12, 2014 after living courageously with cancer for 2½ months. Dan is survived by his wife Jenny, sons Aidan and Lach, parents Janie and Merlyn, brothers Steve and Peter (Jen), niece Emma and nephews Alex, Kris, Ben, Adam, Linden, Theo and Jack. He will be greatly missed by his extended family and many friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday November 29, 2014 at 1:30 pm at Mountain View Cemetery (Celebration Hall) 5455 Fraser Street, Vancouver, B.C. Donations can be made to the B.C. Cancer Agency or to the Canadian Diabetes Association. FUGINA, Lucille April 29, 1922 - December 18, 2013 Lucille Fugina, 92, passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2014 in Calgary, Alberta. The youngest of six children, Lucille was born in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan on April 29, 1922 to the late Dan and Cordelia Hamilton. Although born on the prairies, Lucille was a Kootenay girl through and through. She had lived in Yahk, Cranbrook, Kimberley and her favorite place of all, Wasa Lake. Trained as a teacher, Lucille taught at TaTa Creek, Victoria and Kimberley and cared deeply for her students. Lucille was married to Joe Fugina and raised their five children in Kimberley. After her retirement from teaching, Lucille built a home at Wasa Lake and lived there for many years before moving to retirement homes in Cranbrook and Calgary, Alberta. Lucille was a lifelong member of the Catholic church and her faith was very important to her. She loved to read, spend time with her family and her many dear friends, and when the opportunity allowed, travel. Lucille was predeceased by her parents and all of her siblings. She is survived by her children Anita (Alan) Ure of Golden, Joanne Fugina of Edmonton, Alta., Jim (Andrea) Fugina of Wycliffe, Jerry Fugina of Calgary, Alta., and Marie Glans of Pocotello, Idaho; her seven grandchildren Michelle Ure (Blair Rosequist), Alan (Deanna) Ure, Rilee, Dallas and Bret Glans, and Alexa and Mynoondjie Fugina; and her four great grandchildren Ella and Lola Rosequist and Noah and Ruby Ure and numberous nieces and nephews. There will be a funeral mass for Lucille in the spring.

Harvey Holmgren Harvey Holmgren passed away at East Kootenay Regional Hospital on Tuesday, December 16, 2014. Harvey was born in Weekes, SK. He moved to BC, residing in Yahk and then Cranbrook. He was well known as a hard worker in the construction industry until being afflicted with epilepsy. Always positive, he enjoyed a love of music and spending time with family and friends. Harvey will be lovingly remembered by his family Christopher, Jody and Michelle; sisters Lillian (Jack Bissett) and Ellie Spence; six grandchildren and nine nieces and nephews. Respecting Harvey’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Service. Condolences for the family can be offered at: www.mcphersonfh.com
MICHAEL SLOBODIAN 1925 – 2014 We are saddened by the passing of Michael Slobodian on December 21, 2014 at the Pines Care Home in Kimberley at the age of 89. Michael was born on July 22, 1925 in The Chateau Lake Louise. At a young age he moved from the family homestead, known as Harry’s Hill in Lake Louise, to a farm near Carstairs, Alberta, where he worked for Wilf Carter and Harry Hayes. In 1947 he began work at Cominco in the mill. His career at Cominco included five years working at Black Angel Mine in Greenland. After 40 years with Cominco he retired as Mill Foreman in Kimberley. In 1948 Michael married Isabel Bailey, they lived in Chapman Camp and raised four children. Michael is survived by his wife Isabel of 65 years, a daughter, Gayle, sons Calvin and Daryl (Samantha), seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren, his brother John and sister Anne. He was predeceased by his son Brent in 2012 and his brother Bill in 1997. Michael was an instructor at the Kimberley Fire Department for 25 years. He was also involved in First Aid, enjoyed curling and family time at Wasa Lake. The family wishes to thank Dr. Haiduk and all the staff at the Pines for their excellent care. A Service will be held for Michael on Monday, December 29, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the Centennial Hall, 100 – 4th Avenue, Kimberley. Condolences may be left for the family at www.markmemorial.com. Ray Hull was born and raised in Rolla, BC. For most of his life, Ray worked in trucking and pipelining, eventually moving into very senior purchasing positions in the oil & gas industry, building refineries and petrochemical plants. He worked at Alberta Natural Gas in Cranbrook during the 1960s. He moved to Oliver in 1991 with his wife when they retired. Ray loved his family. Work took them all across BC and Alberta. When they were able to settle down for a few years at a time, he was happy to be home with wife, Beryl and their growing family of 4. When his children were little he liked to sit them on his knee and read softly to them. He, himself was renowned as a natural born storyteller and writer. As he grew older he spent many long hours writing and researching for his short stories. The extended family and friends loved to receive them! Ray could quote poetry, too – some of the classics. Later in life, he loved to listen to audiobooks. He played guitar and piano. The family moved to Cranbrook in the early 1960’s for 4½ years. While here, Ray was actively involved in organizing the Cranbrook branch of the Legion. He was one of the original members of the Cranbrook Rod & Gun Club. Ray was an avid hunter and could tell great stories of adventures in the back woods. Hunting season fed the family and brought him great friendships. He loved to explore and new every nook and cranny - every back road wherever he lived or travelled. The Cranbrook years were wonderful. His kids remember he made a skating rink in the back yard for them each winter. He took the family ice-fishing, boating, swimming and camping and taught them to love the outdoors. In Cranbrook, Ray was also an auxiliary RCMP officer. Over all of these years, he kept contact with a couple of dear, dear friends here Colin Anderson and Ken McLean and his cousin, Ray Osborne. Raymond Stanley Hull has passed at 86 years of age. He is predeceased by his wife, Beryl Marguerite (Loeppky) Hull, son, David Clayton Hull. He is survived by daughters Linda Hull Thoms; Susan Hull Shendaruk and, Melodie Hull (in Cranbrook). He leaves 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. A big man, a big personality; a great person to know. Saddle up and ride, Ray. You are going home. At his request, after a service, Ray‘s ashes were scattered at the Oliver Cemetery where he joined his wife and son. He will be sorely missed by all that love him. In lieu of flowers, Ray asks that a contribution be made to the Melodie Hull Mental Health & Addictions Endowment Fund a registered charity with the Cranbrook Community Foundation www.cranbrookcf.ca Box 242, Cranbrook, BC, Canada, V1C 4H8.
