Murray the reward of St. Vincent DEADPAN COMIC ADDS A NEW FAVOURITE CHARACTER IN TITLE CURMUDGEON St. Vincent Three stars (out of four) Rated 14A Move over, Peter Venkman, Phil Connors and Carl Spackler. Alongside these beloved Bill Murray characters from Ghostbusters, Groundhog Day and Caddyshack, the deadpan comic adds a new favourite: his title curmudgeon of St. Vincent, a movie with laughter, soul and a twisting path to the heart. He’s Vincent, just Vincent, a Vietnam War vet with money troubles, drinking and gambling problems and a bird-flipping attitude toward PETER everyone in his Brooklyn HOWELL neighbourhood. Vincent isn’t a patient man — “Don’t tell me the whole story,” he moans to the garrulous — but he is capable of toleration, if not moderation. He cares for a white feline furball named Felix, who is almost as grumpy as he is. And he enjoys occasional sex with Daka (Naomi Watts), a pregnant Russian hooker who takes no guff, but will take an IOU. Vincent is also house-proud, sort of. He has a lawn of more dirt than grass that he still mows, and he has the proverbial white picket fence around his humble abode — but not for long.
