Grindrod hosts fun days richard rolke Morning Star Staff
Grindrod residents are celebrating their sense of community. The eighth annual Grindrod Days runs Saturday and Sunday at the community park. “It brings everyone together,” said Lindsay Kibbe, with the Grindrod Recreation Association. “It’s a chance for people to meet their neighbours.” The fun gets underway Saturday with a pancake breakfast at 8 a.m.. That is followed by lawn tractors at 9 a.m. and running every half-an-hour, as well as the tug-of-war at 10 a.m. and face painting at 10:30 a.m. There are also children’s games at 10:30 a.m. “They all get prizes,” said Kibbe. At 11:30 a.m., the Shuswap Pioneer Collectors Club will hold a tractor parade and then conduct demonstrations of the vehicles. “They have been with us right from the beginning,” said Kibbe of the club. There will be a hall appreciation ceremony at noon, with an appreciation cake at 12:30 a.m. and a cake walk at 1 p.m. There will be another tractor parade at 3:30 p.m. and Flashback will perform during the Music on the River concert at 7 p.m. On Sunday, there is the pancake breakfast at 8 a.m., the mutt show at 9 a.m. and a rally obedience demonstration at 10:30 a.m. There will also be a gospel church service at
11 a.m. and the Shuswap Pioneer Collector Club’s closing parade at 12:30 p.m. On both days, watch
out for the Sasquatch sponge throw. “The kids stick their heads through the hole in the Sasquatch sign
and they throw sponges at each other,” said Kibby. “It’s cool fun to beat the heat with.”
