KOHN, Klaus Peter It is with deep sadness to announce the passing of Klaus Peter Kohn. He was born May 18, 1935 and passed away quietly January 22, 2014. He will be remembered by his wife Christa, daughters Claudia Lemire (her husband Roger) and Christina Squire (her husband James) and his two grandsons Craig and Carter. He was a strong man with a very soft heart, who loved to travel and had a passion for the sea. His grandsons will never forget his story about his pet monkey when he was working as a young man on the freighter ships. Klaus and Christa had an adventurious life, living in many communities in British Columbia. He was best known for running his own restaurants with his wife Christa. Klaus was a hard working man, with strong morals and strong opinions, he had a great smile and a wonderful laugh. Klaus was a loving husband and father, he will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends.

Marie Jeanne Lucille Harrison aged 91 years passed away peacefully in Mission, BC on January 13, 2014. She is lovingly remembered by her sons Glenn (Kelli), Brad (Diane) and Dennis; grandchildren Lorrie Delong, Jay Harrison, Terry Freiheit, Rusty Hendrickson, Craig Hendrickson, Kelly Freiheit, Ramie Lee Harrison, Joel Cannell, Aaron Harrison, Shyan Harrison, Josh Harrison and Nash Harrison; 17 greatgrandchildren, 1 great - great granddaughter, as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Arthur Harrison; parents Alfonse and Josephine Alain; daughter Myrna Young and son, Garth Harrison.
In loving memory of Dr. MICHAEL STANLEY BALE, who died peacefully the evening of January 24, 2014. He had been diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis and remained resilient throughout. Mike touched the lives of numerous individuals through his profession, hobbies, and personal life, and will be greatly missed by all. His legacy is held by a devoted wife, Patricia (nee Hansen); five children, Chris (Claire), Tanya (Jason), Geoffrey (Brittany), Gregory, and Natasha; and three grandchildren, Oliver, Joe, and Evan. He is also survived by four sisters, Heather, Jane, Jill, and Sue; extended family, and many close friends. Mike was overwhelmed by the outpouring of care for him during these past few weeks from family, friends, and patients. As was his nature, he left a note specifically requesting: “no service, no memorial … no fuss!!” Kindly forward any gestures to the Abbotsford Community Foundation Fund. His family is thankful for your support. As there is to be no service, please have a pint in Mike’s memory and go for a walk in a beautiful spring garden. Charlotte passed away at Abbotsford Hospital at the age of 82. Survived by her loving husband, Carol John; 3 daughters, Karen (John) Holmes, Jill (Mike Woolgar), Joanne (Jeff) Patzer, 4 grandchildren Dalton, Jaclynn, Brittany and Erik, sister Irene Dennis, Pincher Creek, AB, numerous family and friends. Born in Lethbridge, AB, moved to Swift Current, SK in 1952 where she worked in the Royal Bank and met and married her lifelong husband. Moved to BC in 1970 where they have since resided in North Vancouver, Surrey & Abbotsford. A very caring mother, dedicated her life to raising her family. She was active in church activities until recent years, loved flower gardening and travelling to distant places, meeting with friends. She was well loved and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. He is survived by children Gabor Olah, Mari Lihyaoui, and Stephen Olah (Margot), step children Andrew Kiss (JoAnn), Betty Grabuck (Bill) and Sophie Burkhart (Jim), sister Anne Takacs and grandchildren Kellie-Ann Nelson, Diana Hue, Sean Kisch, Will Markstrom, Alicia Sloan, Kirsten Wheatley, Crystal Sloan, Alannah Olah, Jordan Kiss, Jarek Olah and Adrian Kiss. He was predeceased by his wife, Alice and parents Istvan & Anna Antal, brothers István and József and sisters Erzsébet & Margit. At Gabor’s request, there will be no service nor memorial. However, there will be an internment at 2:45 pm, Friday, February 14th, 2014 at Aberdeen Cemetery. Paul P.J. 1942 ~ 2014 Paul passed away on Sunday morning January 26, 2014 at the age of 71. He passed away in Langley hospital after getting pneumonia. He will be greatly missed by his surviving family, wife Janie, son Bill, daughters Rhonda and Paula, 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother Emile and two sisters MaryAnne and Florence, many nieces and nephews. No service by Paul’s request.

Hazel passed away peacefully on the morning of January 17, at Barry’s Bay, ON, formally of Georgetown, ON. Predeceased by her father and mother Howard and Margaret Jones of Mission, BC and ex-husband Jerry Reis of Edmonton, AB. Hazel is survived by two sons, Mark (Sandra) Reis of Oakville, ON, Scott (Leslie) Reis, three grandchildren of Barry’s Bay, ON, brother Victor (Yvonne) Jones of Burnaby, BC, and sister Carol (Aubrey) Nicholson of Mission, BC. Hazel was born in the old Mission Hospital on 5th Street. Hazel and Vic lived in Deroche, until Dad built a house on 3rd Street in 1941 across from the Willows Apt. She went to Mission Central and graduated from Mission Senior. Hazel and her best friend, Doreen Phelps went to Pittmans in Vancouver, coming back to Mission she worked in the office of Mission Cannery and Stave Lake Cedar in Dewdney. In Ontario, she worked for many years for Zellers until retirement. No service by request. A tea will be held in Georgetown on Saturday, Feb. 1st, 2014.
VAN NIEUWENHOVEN, Joannes Leonardus April 20, 1930 - Jan. 27, 2014 Leo passed away peacefully at Christine Morrison Hospice on Monday, January 27, 2014. He was predeceased by his daughter Mary-Ann and brother Harry. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Ann; daughter Ria (Ted); son-in-law Milton (Laurel); 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, 3 sisters as well as many extended family members and cherished friends. Leo was born in Nederweert, Limburg, Netherlands and immigrated to Canada in 1954. Ann soon followed and they were married on September 18, 1954 in Salmon Arm, BC. They moved to Aldergrove in 1961 and in 1967 they rented their first farm in Matsqui. After 3 years, they purchased their own farm in Sumas Prairie where they farmed until 1981. He then “semi-retired” to a broiler farm on Tolmie Rd. until 1990. Leo loved to travel around in the motorhome and enjoyed bus trips to the USA & Eastern Canada. He also spent a lot of time reading, puzzling and biking around the Sumas Prairie and loved working outside in the gardens. Leo’s greatest joy were his children and grandchildren. Special thanks to the staff at Christine Morrison Hospice, his “private nurse” Linda Stewart and Dr. Donald Scamen for all the care and support we received. Prayers Vigil will be held on Wednesday Feb 5th at 7:00pm and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday Feb 6th at 11:00am. All services will be held at St. Anns Roman Catholic Church, 33333 Mayfair Ave. Abbotsford. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Christine Morrison Hospice in Mission, BC.
