Charles Desmond Champion-Taylor was born January 30, 1932 in Canora Saskatchewan. Des died unexpectedly on August 4, 2013 at Lake Country Lodge, Lake Country, B.C. Des was the youngest of six children born to Edward and Carrie Mae Champion-Taylor. He graduated from SAIT in 1965 as a professional cook. He worked in his field initially on the Columbia River dam project in Castlegar, and then later for many years with the provincial government at the Willingdon Correctional Center. He married Pamela Mills in 1969 and they enjoyed many wonderful years together until her passing in 2005. They resided in Fort Langley for many years prior to moving to Winfield (Lake Country). Des was a self taught woodworker. His passion in woodworking evolved over several years as he built his home in Fort Langley, and following that, built and gifted many fine pieces of furniture and cabinets.He was a poet and some of his poems were published. Des had a quick wit and was a great story teller.He always had a joke or two to share and laugh over when socializing. His sense of humor was with him always. Des was predeceased by his parents Edward and Carrie Mae Champion-Taylor, his brothers Jack, Bruce, and Albert, and sister Edna (Edie), his beloved wife Pam, nephews Wesley and Gary; his in-laws Leo and Vera Mills, and Pam’s twin brother Pat as well as his cherished dog Chop Suey. Des cherished family and is lovingly remembered by his sister Pat Milino, nieces and nephews: Sandy, Lonny, Faye, Jacen, Donalie, Brian, Judy, Brent, Kerry, Cathy, David, Ron, Karen and Robin and their families. A graveside service will be held at the Evergreen Cemetary, 1468 66th Avenue in Grand Forks, B.C. on August 22, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to any of the following of Des’ favorite charities: B.C. Cancer Foundation, The Nature Conservancy of Canada, World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) or the Knowledge Network Corporation.
