2013 BC New-Canadian Entrepreneur Award Recipent Jag’s MJM Furniture Showcase Jag Jaswal of Jag’s MJM Furniture Showcase has received the Retail award for the 21st Annual ETHNO BC Council of British Columbia BC NEWCANADIAN ENTREPRENEUR AWARD for 2013. This prestigious award was presented recently to Jag Jaswal owner of Jag’s MJM Furniture Showcase with locations in Abbotsford, Langley, Maple Ridge and Chilliwack. Featured guest at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Vancouver, B.C. was The Hon. Jason Kenney, P.C., M.P. The awards recognize the achievements of successful New-Canadian entrepreneurs who have demonstrated business leadership, innovation and community involvement. This year’s award recognized the leaders in the following businesses: Export, Service, Retail, Manufacturing and Wholesale. Jag’s MJM Furniture has become a household name for furniture shoppers throughout the Lower Mainland since the first store opened its doors in 1987. The company has established itself as a leader in the home furnishings business with its constant approach to staying on top of the latest trends and styles in the market and making customer service an immediate priority. Jag Jaswal immigrated to Canada along with his mother and siblings in 1977. Jag attended high school while also working on the farms picking berries and helping to provide for the family.
After graduating from high school in 1984, Jag got a full time job in the furniture manufacturing industry where he worked for 3 years. In 1987, Jag and his older brother Jeet opened the first MJM store in Surrey, BC with Jag holding a 25% share. Upon opening the store, Jag started doing deliveries and worked his way up over the years, moving into the position of Warehouse Manager, and eventually sales. In 1994, Jag became Store Manager for the second MJM location which opened in Abbotsford. As the company name grew and business flourished, the third MJM location opened its doors in Maple Ridge, BC in 2008. In January of 2011 Jag became 100% owner of the Abbotsford and Maple Ridge locations which now go by Jag’s MJM Furniture. Within two years, Jag has opened three more locations. In 2011 Jag opened his third Jag’s MJM Furniture location in Langley, followed by his fourth location in Chilliwack, in 2012. Earlier this year Jag opened his fifth location and second in Abbotsford under the name Buy-Rite Furniture & Mattresses. Jag’s MJM Furniture continues to grow its brand within the furniture market while offering home furnishings buyers an outstanding experience in selecting the right furniture that matches their décor.
