Search for suspect in Lynden abduction attempt expanded into Lower Mainland Natasha JoNes Times Reporter

Police in Lynden, Washington, are asking for the public’s help to locate a man they say is responsible for attempting to abduct a 10-year-old girl in Lynden. “He’s a predator and he’s dangerous,” said Chief Jack Foster of the Lynden Police Department. “People will be watching for someone like this because he created his own opportunity.” Foster said that the

attempted abduction occurred shortly before 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 17, near the intersection of 4th Street and Liberty. The girl escaped, but suffered a minor injury. The suspect who police are hunting is a white man in his late 20s or early 30s. He was wearing a black T-shirt and white, brown and black plaid shorts. The vehicle he was driving is described as a white, possibly mid-size extended cab pickup with a tool box in the bed.

After approximately six weeks, he left and may have become homeless, she said. The area of the DoD property was once used as married quarters, and although most buildings were dismantled years ago, homeless people were known to set up shelters there in derelict buildings. Marks said that Maslanka-Ewing had never been on the RCMP’s radar, and police have no idea what he was doing the day he died, or how he came to be on the Aldergrove DoD land. Anyone with information that might help police with the final pieces of the mystery is asked to call Langley RCMP at 604 532-3200.

The girl told police that the tool box could possibly be chrome diamond plated; a witness claimed it is coloured ‘smokey brown.’ The pickup had a distinct gold coloured cross on the left side of the tailgate. A witness claimed the licence plate on the vehicle is a plain white background with raised blue lettering. She also said the plate had blue trim around the outside and some sort of symbol separating the letters and numbers.

Foster said that his department has received some tips from Lower Mainland residents, but the information was “nothing that we could possibly follow up on. We are just drawing blanks with this guy.” Details of the attempted abduction are being distributed in Langley because of the proximity to the border, Foster said. Anyone who may have information is asked to call the Lynden Police Department at 360-354-2828.

INSTALLING DOORS If you have installed a new door and the hinges seem like they don’t line up, one of the following solutions may be of help to you. Using a hammer, lightly tap the hinge that is higher than its partner to line them up. The pins should then slip into place. Failing that, loosen the hinge that will not go on, then put it into place and tighten the hinge back up. Come see us, we’ll tell you all about it.
