Answering this issue's Q & A is iKBBI inspector Janice McBeth. Janice recently joined the institute and brings with her a wealth of industry experience and a sense of fun, unless you're a politician ...
What attracted you to your role as an iKBBI inspector?
I have over 30 years experience in the fitted furniture industry and I thought that the role was innovative and interesting. I wanted therefore to be a part of this new initiative and play my part in helping to raise industry standards. I think it is important that we raise consumer confidence for our industry.
Have you witnessed a marked improvement in installation standards or would you say that growth could be quicker?
Growth has been slow especially in the North East, however all new ventures take time and I feel that the message is finally getting through to the general public. I am confident that the inspector service will prove useful and will help create a benchmark for both customers and installers.
And what makes you feel good about it?
Knowing that I’m at the forefront of this new service that will become highly regarded throughout the KBB industry.

David Beckham ha ha!

George Osborne or any other politician as I may get arrested for voicing my opinions.
If you had a super power what would it be?

I would like to have the same power as Samantha from the tv show Bewitched; she just wiggles her nose and instantly arrives at any destination she chooses.
I love travelling but hate the time it takes to reach my destination.

Italy, the Amalfi Coast is spectacular.
Beach or pool?
Pool, I can’t stand the beach.
Book or kindle?
Neither, I prefer watching TV, especially a good comedy
All time favourite movie?
Gone with the wind.

What makes you laugh?
My youngest grandchildren Charlie and Jack, they have me in stitches with their one-liners. I bet their teachers could write a book!

Sad movies especially when it involves animals. I am one of the millions who cried buckets when Bambi’s mother was killed.
