ADVERTORIAL Care homes are still the best place for our loved ones

There can be little doubt that the last few months have been a complex and trying time for care homes across the country and devastating for many families. Understandably, the spotlight has been focused on care homes throughout the pandemic but it’s important to remember that the vast majority of care homes have had few or no incidences of coronavirus. The two residential homes we operate in the East Riding, Magnolia House in Cottingham and The Manor House in Little Weighton, have remained 100 per cent free from COVID-19 throughout the crisis. We voluntarily “locked down” our homes a full two weeks before the government imposed visiting restrictions – despite receiving criticism at the time, the decision has since been vindicated. Infection control is bread and butter to care homes; the need to manage contagious infections, whether seasonal flu or norovirus, is an area in which we’re highly experienced. As such the vast majority have coped well with this latest challenge, working tirelessly to keep their residents safe. It’s certainly the case at Magnolia House and The Manor House, where our fabulous teams, day in, day out, have gone above and beyond the call of duty, not just to keep our residents safe but to ensure they remain connected with their loved ones using new technology and entertained with the most innovative activities programmes I have seen in my many years working in care. The crisis has been tough for everyone, but we must ensure that our parents and grandparents to continue to receive the high-quality care they need and deserve. Chris Mitchell is the chairman of Park Lane Health Care which owns Magnolia House in Cottingham and The Manor House in Little Weighton.
