ROBERT VENTURI COMPLEXITY AND CONTRADICTION IN ARCHITECTURE

|

Principals for Complexity and Contradiction in Architecture, By Robert Venturi that needs to be implemented:

1. Non-Straightforward Architecture: A good architecture needs its space and elements to be complex and work at several ways at once. Today, a single building needs to have program structure, etc. so it can do the same as orthodox modern architecture.

2. Double functioning element: A particular use of a structure being multifunctioning space.

3. Ambiguity: Complexity usually results in ambiguity. Ambiguity is based on the confusion that the user feels, due to the program.

4. Both-And: Irrational parts which result in rational whole. Both simple and complex at the same time. Should show varying levels of programs and structure.

5. Complexity and Contradiction Vs. Simplification or Picturesque Simple is boring. Shouldn’t be oversimplified. To promote complexity in planning and other elements and reject simplification.

6. Against Orthodox Modern Architects Ignore ambiguity and complication, solving problems and making it more simple
