IntercollegiateSports

Bethany offers 21 teams on the intercollegiate level. Our athletes compete at the NCAA Division III level. That’s twice as many sports as is required at a Division III institution. Bethany teams have a long-time tradition of not only competing for conference championships, but also for appearances in postseason play.

Bison athletic programs are affiliated with the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC). Our Bison compete against several other top liberal arts colleges from the region. These colleges include Allegheny, Chatham, Geneva, Grove City, Saint Vincent, Thiel, Washington & Jefferson, Waynesburg, and Westminster.

The Bison

Competing at the Division III level of the NCAA, students will find a team offering wideopen competition and a chance to play in their first year at Bethany. In its history, Bethany’s accomplishments include the 1994 NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer National Championship,

100+ Presidents’ Athletic Conference championships, 70+ NCAA Tournament Appearances, and 50+ ECAC Championship appearances.

Bethany student athletes’ accomplishments aren’t limited to the playing fields, courts, tracks,

and pools. They truly are students first. Numerous Bison teams have been recognized for their academic proficiency. Our teams have been recognized for having the top grade point average among the Division III schools in the country. We have placed 1,490 student-athletes

on the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll. Sixteen of our studentathletes have earned Academic All-American honors and three female athletes have been voted the NCAA West Virginia Woman of the Year.

Riding

Oglebay Stables is home to Bethany College’s Equestrian Team and Equine Management and Pre- Veterinary students. Competitively, the Bison field two club teams for all levels of experience, and all are members of the International Horse Show Association (IHSA). Teams compete in Zone 2 Regional.

You may find yourself playing football under the lights on the new Coach Don Ault Athletic Field, ringed by a synthetic all-weather track and nestled in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains, fall colors blazing, and Bison fans cheering.

Or maybe you’ll compete at Hoag Field, one of the most beautiful and historic soccer venues in the nation.

Our softball field offers similar far-reaching views of campus where you’ll compete in the tradition of a team that has won the league’s best 13 conference championships and reached the NCAA Division III World Series.

Perhaps you’ll complete the 200-yard breaststroke against a conference rival at the Knight Natatorium’s Olympicsized pool in the multipurpose Thomas Phillips Johnson Recreation Center.

Our recently renovated Joe Kurey Memorial Court inside Hummel Field House, which hosts our volleyball and basketball teams, brings an electric home-court advantage over our conference rivals.

Whatever your sport, you’ll be competing at Bethany- you’ll challenge yourself and your teammates. You’ll be a part of the tight-knit Bison family. You’ll be part of a campus happening, with the student body and community coming out to support the Green and White.
