James on the music and choreography. Michael Grady accompanies and directs the music, a vital backbone for this stage play. Not surprisingly, the set is minimalist, with a platform, some boxes, a ladder, bench, and chair, plus cleverly stylized trees. It boasts the ingenuity of Ward Calaway, Dan Bergmann and Barbara Schofield. Holly Victoria must have had a field day with the costume design for such varied characters. “The Fantasticks” is the longest running off-Broadway musical, with 42 years and 17,162 performances to its credit. It has played in more than 60 countries. And now, happily, we can enjoy this ever-popular play right here at the Playhouse. A family-friendly show, “The Fantasticks” will con-
tinue at the Sierra Madre Playhouse weekends through July 13. Curtain time is 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2:30 p.m. for Sunday matinees. Admission is $25 general, $22 for seniors (65+) and students (13-17), and $15 for children 12 and under. The Sierra Madre Playhouse is located at 87 W. Sierra Madre Blvd., Sierra Madre. City lots offer free parking. Pre- or post-theater dining at local restaurants on Baldwin Avenue and Sierra Madre Boulevard can enhance your theater-going experience.
