driver’s lICENSE

New residents have 30 days after moving to obtain an Alabama driver’s license. If you have a valid, out-of-state license, you only have to take an eye test and show your Social Security card. If you do not have a license, you will also have to take a written exam and a road test. Tests are $5 and a four-year license costs $36.25.

New residents must transfer their vehicle title and obtain an Alabama automobile license plate within 30 days of establishing residency. Tags may be purchased at the Revenue Commissioner’s office. You will need current tag registration, mileage reading, title or the name of lien holder or copy of the lease agreement, driver’s license and proof of insurance.
