ESSENTIAL SPEAKER SUPPLEMENT: L-ACOUSTICS
LEVERAGING L-ACOUSTICS SOUNDVISION L-Acoustics Soundvision software helps integrators explain, sell and deliver CEDIA RP22 standard immersive sound to clients. L-Acoustics unveiled Xi Series coaxial speakers at this year’s ISE tradeshow. The X6i and X8i add further flexibility to the L-Acoustics line up of speakers for the home and yacht markets. Alongside the recently launched in-wall mounting versions of its proven Soka collinear array speaker and SB10r subwoofer and paired with its unique Soundvision 3D Audio design software, the new models bolster L-Acoustics integration offering and underpin the brand’s commitment to CEDIA’s RP22 standard for immersive audio. RP22 brings together a number of measurable, data-driven parameters to define the performance level of multichannel audio systems. It’s quite a shake-up in an industry that would often measure performance purely subjectively. RP22 is a natural fit for L-Acoustics, which has 40 years of experience in the professional audio industry. With the inception of Soundvision in 2004, L-Acoustics were the first to offer real-time 3D sound modelling software, and ever since, L-Acoustics has always designed audio solutions for venues based on

measurable performance data. Bandwidth, SPL, headroom, response, dispersion, audience coverage and more are all essential elements of any professional audio solution, from the most intimate recording studio to the most cavernous sports stadium. Recently the L-Acoustics Home & Yacht team were asked by a partner integrator to design a showroom system which would achieve RP22 Level 3: Meets or exceeds reference commercial cinema exhibition standards. To achieve this, the L-Acoustics team chose three Soka inWall colinear loudspeakers in an LCR configuration to be mounted behind an acoustically transparent screen. To increase the frequency response, three SB10r in-wall subwoofers were added while, the new X8i were used for surround channels, along with X6i for the height channels, all mounted behind acoustically transparent fabric. Four Syva Sub are used for low frequency extension down to 20Hz, placed at low level within the front baffle wall. Designing the entire system within Soundvision allowed for accurate prediction of the key RP22 criteria before any construction was begun. Despite requiring 21 channels of amplification, this 11.1.6 system is driven by one 2U LA7.16i amplified controller, delivering
16 channels of amplification at 1,300 watts per channel, one LA2Xi amplified controller for 4 channels of 360 watts and one further LA4X amplified controller to drive the four Syva Subs with 1000 watts per channel. Everything is connected via the professional Milan-AVB audio over IP protocol via the new LC16D network audio converter which connects to a thirdparty AV processor via AES3 for a fully digital solution. Over 26,000 watts of amplification are available with only 6U of rack space.
FLEXIBLE, NEW XI COAXIAL MODELS
The Xi Series is designed to meet the demands of integration projects requiring powerful, premium sound in a discrete format that can blend into any room. The original X4i, one of the most popular installation loudspeakers from L-Acoustics, comes in at an ultra-compact 100mm per side and integrates discreetly into any architecture while offering premium sound quality, high maximum SPL and a wide dispersion pattern. The X6i and X8i offer larger, more powerful variants in cabinets easily wall mounted at a variety of angles, and shallow enough to use behind acoustically transparent walls.
