Art of Birding 2018 Wildlife & Nature Photography Challenge Photographers Photos from Prior Weeks
This young female falcon is the 2018 offspring of two falcons that were raised at Wingspan in Rotorua and released into the wild. The birds took up residence in a busy part of Whakarewarewa Forest that is used by walkers, mountain bikers and horse riders. Parts of the mountain bike tracks were closed to give the birds a break from defending their nest area. The young falcon is still in the area and can be seen from time to time.
