1st. Isle of Axholme B.P. Scout Group From Tots to Teens, the scouting experiences help youngsters to developed self-confidence and learn many skills. The 1st Isle of Axholme group is part of the Baden Powell Scout association (www.traditionalscouting.co.uk/) and is based in Westwoodside village hall. The Scouting journey starts as children approach their 6 th birthday, when they can join the Beaver Colony and continues through to their late teens as they progress through Wolf Cubs, Scouts and Senior Scouts. The Beavers meet at 6pm. each Tuesday evening in term time and it is our objective to develop self confidence and life skills with a programme of activities, based in the Westwoodside Village Hall and, as importantly, out in the surrounding countryside. The local woods, turbarys and peat moors provide an exciting, yet safe, environment for the youngsters. In this last year, amongst many other activities, they have explored the Lindholme peat moors. They learnt all about rearing beef cattle and sheep with a visit to Gill and David Carr’s herd. In the Autumn we had a BBQ night in a local wood where they all cooked their own suppers. Each July we hold our annual “Beavers and Parent” camp in an oak wood near Caistor. Last year the weather was perfect, and everyone enjoyed exploring the local woods, a camp fire and lots and lots of good food. We do have a few vacancies for the start of the summer school term.
