Delta Is At The Heart Of This Lockdown Pool No, not the Covid Delta variant, but the Calorex Delta! Built over the course of six months and completed last autumn by Huddersfield-based pool designer and builder, Concept Pools, this purpose-built pool hall in Sutton Coldfield was in construction during the first lockdown but completed in time for the second lockdown, proving a ‘godsend’ for keeping the owners and their family amused. Given the brief to build a pool and spa for family exercise and fun, Concept Pools installed a 14m x 5.5m x 1.4m level deck pool with a constant depth of 1.7m and added a 2.5m GRP tiled integrated spa pool. Taking full control of the whole indoor environment and pool water heating, is a Calorex Delta 4. Totally self-contained, the Delta removes moisture and recovers energy which is then re-used to heat the pool water and air. Typically, for every unit of power that a Calorex heat pump consumes, it will convert 2.4 times this amount to usable heat. Compared to traditional heating and ventilation methods, cost savings of over 50% are achievable while corresponding CO2 emissions can be dramatically reduced by as much as 70%. For the most part, the Concept Pools’ team managed to continue working throughout the two lockdowns but as a lot of pool contractors found,

commercial work inevitably dried up, whilst enquiries from the domestic sector rocketed, fuelled by a public intent on pursuing health and wellness in the safety of their own homes. Other featured Certikin equipment includes a tiled spa and a Roldeck white slatted automatic cover.

the exterior works have been completed and each fitness area has been kitted out with the latest equipment. In addition to a wide range of indoor and outdoor sports and leisure facilities, on the wet leisure side, the Eastwood Centre features a 25 metre pool with 68-seat viewing gallery, a teaching pool with moveable floor and hoist, a steam room and sauna. For parents who are getting their children into swimming, a new ground level café provides a view of the teaching pool. During his time as a councillor, Ian Eastwood campaigned passionately for better sports facilities in Sheerwater, alongside Cllr David Bittleston, Lead Member of the Sheerwater Regeneration Project. In April 2018, members voted to release the funds for the construction of new community-use leisure centre and swimming pool, and two months after Mr Eastwood’s retirement in May 2019, work started on site. During a recent visit to the leisure centre, Mr Eastwood said he was “very impressed with the finer details” and praised the quality of the facilities, which meet the required standards for a range of competitive sports.
