With five and three victories each, they are eighth and tenth in their respective Grand Slam champions’ rankings.
Who would have thought that little Brooks, instead of devoting himself to the sport he was passionate about as a child and still is today (baseball) would become a shining global golf star. Destiny had assigned a starring role to the youngster who, in less than two years (between June 2017 and May 2019), won four of the 10 majors played in that period.
At the age of 10, Brooks suffered a badly broken nose when the car his babysitter was driving crashed and he was unable to play contact sports that summer, so he spent the time playing golf in his native West Palm Beach. He would have liked to dedicate his heart and soul
In less than two years (between June 2017 and May 2019) he won four of the 10 majors played during that period to his beloved baseball – a love instilled in him by both his father, a pitcher at West Virginia Wesleyan, and his great-uncle Dick Groat, a legend of the sport and also of basketball (he played in the NBA) – but circumstances led him in a different direction.
“If I had another opportunity to do so, I would play baseball, 100 per cent,” Koepka once said in an interview. If there is any further doubt about his sporting preferences, the American star observed, after winning his first U.S. Open at Erin Hills, that “golf is boring: it doesn’t involve much action”. Of course, despite his boredom, Brooks cannot really complain, in either a sporting or a financial sense. Retaining a Grand Slam title is a feat that has only been achieved by an exclusive club of stars. Koepka, for example, was just the seventh player to win successive U.S. Opens. Previously this was achieved by Willie Anderson (1903-1904), son (1903-1904), John McDermott (1911-1912), Bobby Jones (1929-1930), Ralph Guldahl (1937-1938), Ben Hogan (1950-1951) y Curtis Strange (1988-1989).

Brooks Koepka first attracted media attention in June 2012 when, aged 22 and still an amateur, he played in the U.S. Open after a brilliant performance in the pre-qualifiers. That summer, he made his professional debut at the Credit Suisse Challenge, his first contact with the European Challenge Tour. He went on to compete in 20 Challenge Tour events in 2012 and 2013, winning four times, which earned him a card for the main European Tour.

The day after his third Challenge Tour victory of 2013, Koepka qualified for the 2013 British Open. He made his European Tour debut at the Scottish Open, where he finished 12th.
On the 2014 PGA Tour, he played in a handful of events thanks to sponsor exemptions. In his first tournament of the year, the Frys.com Open, he was third. At the U.S. Open, he finished fourth to secure his first PGA Tour card for the 2014-15 season, and he also received his first U.S. Masters invitation. He played in the U.S. PGA Championship, finishing 15th, and was nominated for the PGA Tour rookie of the year award.

Chun started the year making all the cuts in LPGA events, but she never finished inside the top 20. On returning to Korea, it only took two events for her to obtain her first win. But it was her next victory that really set the pace for her year. She was invited to play in the JLPGA’s first major tournament of the year, the Salonpas Cup, which became her first win outside the KLPGA as a professional. She added another victory on her home country circuit and then flew to Pennsylvania, where she spent two weeks preparing for the U.S. Women’s Open. Her hard work paid dividends.
At 20 years of age, she became the third youngest woman to win that major, a victory that earned her a 2016 LPGA Tour card. Chun won eight times in 2015 in what was a remarkable season. She also had a superb rookie season on the LPGA Tour in 2016, joining the growing ranks of Korean stars to win the rookie of the year award – and doing so in particularly dominant fashion.

In 2020, due to COVID-19, the LPGA and KLPGA TOURS were cancelled and many tournaments were postponed. His best results came in the UK in mid-August. She finished seventh in consecutive weeks at the women’s Scottish and British Opens. Remarkably, this was the first time she had secured consecutive top 10s in several years, and it was her first top 10 in a major since she won the 2016 Evian.

Championship. She was victorious by one stroke and became the third Korean to win three majors. At the AIG Women’s British Open she lost in a play-off tiebreaker, and her second place finish remains the best result she has achieved in that major.
So far this year Chun has not been registering any solid scores. In her first five tournaments her best finish was 24th, she withdrew from one tournament and she failed to make the cut in another. At that point she was 11th in the world ranking.
In Gee is nicknamed “Dumbo”, which has nothing to do with the size of her ears but rather is because she has excellent hearing. ■
