This class is designed for youth ages 11-14 with an interest in becoming an Arlington Heights Park District Lifeguard. Students must be able to swim 200 yards, tread water for two minutes and be proficient in freestyle and breast-stroke. The course introduces students to basic water safety, life guarding skills and the Park District swim lesson program. Adult and Teen Swim Lessons This class was developed for adult and teen non-experienced swimmers through competitive swimmers wanting to perfect their techniques. Adult and teens are split up and taught separately. Participants are evaluated on the first day of class and placed with the appropriate instructor. Instructors work with participants to develop individual goals based on their needs and ability. E&A Lifeguard Training Program Do you have what it takes to be a Jeff Ellis and Associates (EA) lifeguard? Being an EA lifeguard is much more than jumping in and saving people. Being an EA lifeguard teaches you responsibility, teamwork, social skills, problem solving, along with first aid, CPR and AED skills, and water rescue techniques. Being a lifeguard is a great responsibility because your are guarding lives. Are you up for the challenge? This class is open to anyone who is 15 years old by July 31st, 2015. Upon successful completion of this class you will receive an EA course completion certificate. The first class will meet from 9am-11am. At the start of the first day your swim skills will be assessed. You must swim 200 yards using a front crawl or breast-stroke. You must be able to swim down 12 feet deep and retrieve a 10 pound dive brick. You must then tread water holding that brick for 1 minute. Finally you must then tread water using only your legs for two minutes. If you can do these skills then you posses the swimming skill necessary to be successful in the class. *Please note that completion of this course does not guarantee employment with the AHPD. Diving Club Expand your diving knowledge and improve your skills alongside coaches from Windy City Diving in Diving Club! This program will be offered at 3 locations, each with a different number of practice days to help fit your schedule. Divers will be taught proper diving technique with new skills and drills to help each diver improve and learn new and more challenging dives at their own rate. Divers at Heritage will have the opportunity to learn 3 meter diving skills as well! Participants may register for 1st session only, 2nd session only, or all 8 weeks in one class code. 2 dive meets will be held for divers to test their skills, and learn how to become a competitive diver. More information will be provided at the beginning of class. To be a part of this programs, divers must have a strong interest in improving their diving skills, have taken a diving lesson, or can do a forward approach, back jump ,forward dive, a back dive, front flip or inward dive.**All participants are required to become members of USA Diving ($12 annual fee).
