If you aren’t...there’s still time to sign up OR file these tips for the future!

Make New Contacts The Business Expo gives you an opportunity to meet more people in one day than you might meet in an entire month (or more!). Make the most of this opportunity by creating a booth that encourages people to come speak to you. Also make time during the day to walk the show floor and increase your exposure.

Follow-Up For Success You will meet several people at the Expo, and follow-up is the key to success.

Keep business cards and contact information and make a plan to get in touch with your new contacts after the Business Expo.

Promote Your Booth Give your current and prospective customers a reason to visit you at the Expo.

Promote your booth in the weeks leading up to the event with emails, post cards, notes, in-store posters, etc.  Special expo pricing: Offer a special deal for purchases or orders made at the Expo.  A chance to win a prize if they visit your booth: This also gives you an opportunity to collect business cards from people at your booth that can be used for leads later.  Introduce a New Product or Service: Stimulate their curiosity and let them know you'll have a surprise at the Expo.  Demonstrate Your Products: You have only a few minutes to make an impression, so keep it short and sweet.  Promote Your Expo Booth: Do inserts in your billings to customers to promote the expo; do something small that would not incur additional postage. If you have one, use your newsletter to promote your expo participation.

Make it Clear Does your booth clearly convey what it is you have to sell? Design your graphics like an advertisement, and make the benefit stand out.

Bold Colors for Best Visibility Black lettering on a yellow or orange background is more likely to be read than if it's on a white background. Don't hold back- use colors like red, yellow or orange. Bright colors indicate an important message.

Welcome Them In Don't use tables as barricades. Increase your booth traffic by placing tables off to the side. Have an open entry into your booth.

Eye Contact and Body Language Give immediate attention to people entering your booth. If possible, have at least two people at your booth, so you can greet everyone. Don't look like your standing at attention, or put your hands in your pocket. If it helps, carry something in one of your hands. Greet people with a smile and act interested in their needs. In smaller exhibits don't stand in the center; stand off to the side, near the front corner of the exhibit.

Make Your Give-Aways Count Eliminate the "grab and run" attendees. Don't stack your free giveaways on the table unless you want everyone to have them. Display only one to create interest. The best way to use giveaways is to carry a few with you, and after each conversation give the item as a thank you gift for visiting your booth. With this approach maybe you can afford a more valuable give-away now that you know they will be given only to those actually interested in your company's product or service. Another approach is to tie giveaways to some form of registration and questionnaire.

Did We Mention Follow-Up? Follow-up after the show is the best way to guarantee success. This is where many exhibitors drop the ball. Make use of the names you have gathered, send thank you notes, send out your informational brochures, follow-up on your sales leads, and fulfill your promises to send information immediately.

Captain Christopher Stocker has retired from the St. Louis County Police Department to pursue a career in the private sector. He was assigned to command the Affton Southwest Precinct in 2013 and since then has served on our Board of Directors. Captain Stocker served over 30 years with the St. Louis County Police Department. During his career he was Commander of the Intelligence Unit, Municipal Services Unit, and Bureau of Central Police Records. He was a watch commander in the South County Precinct and served in the Chief’s Office, Fleet Management, Drug Unit, Bureau of Special Investigations, AntiFence Unit and the Affton Southwest Precinct. As anyone that knew him will understand...we’ll miss his hilarious and longwinded presentations at board meetings and the awards dinner!

In February of 2016, Captain Jeffrey Fuesting took command of the Affton-Southwest Precinct. Captain Fuesting has been a police officer for over 20 years and began his career in the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. He then joined the St. Louis County Police Department and was assigned to the Affton Precinct. He has served in the Bureau of Special Operations, Community Action Team; the North County Precinct; Division of Criminal Investigations, Bureau of Crimes Against Persons; and the Neighborhood Enforcement Team. His most recent assignment was command of the newly created City of Jennings Precinct. During his career, he has received over 55 awards, commendations and letters of appreciation, including six Commendations from the Chief of Police.

In Memoriam Fonda Totten

F2 Garage Door Solutions

December 22, 1962-February 27, 2016

Fonda Totten of F2 Garage Door Solutions passed away on Saturday, February 27th after being hospitalized for pneumonia in Pennsylvania.

Fonda was a valued member of the Affton Chamber and served on the Board of Directors since January 2012. She was instrumental in starting their family garage door company in 2005. Fonda was known for loving tea parties, crafts and animals.

Fonda’s funeral was held March 1 & 2 in Johnstown, PA. She was remembered during a moment of silence at the Affton Chamber March membership meeting.

Fonda is survived by her loving husband, Frank; loving children, James Mackell, married to Kiley; Kolby Mackell, married to Niki; Sarah and Jackson Totten; and loving grandchildren, Carter and Claire Mackell.

Fonda will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

This seminar will cover the basics of paying for retirement, and explain the difference between two powerful tools for saving for retirement: a Traditional IRA and a Roth IRA. There will also be refreshments and attendance drawings, as well as the opportunity to ask our presenter retirement questions. This seminar is free and open to the public, but seating is limited.
