Ramstein Airmen, Bulgarian air force spring into exercise Story and photo by Staff Sgt. Nesha Humes 86th Airlift Wing Public Affairs

PLOVDIV, Bulgaria — Airmen from the 86th Airlift Wing and 435th Contingency Response Group joined the Bulgarian air force to kick off Exercise Thracian Spring 17 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, March 14. The two-week exercise is designed to provide both U.S. and Bulgarian Airmen the opportunity to train together while enhancing interoperability and improving combined air operations. “Although we already have a strong military alliance with the Bulgarians, it’s important that we conduct these exercises.” said Capt. Mary Bordelon, 37th Airlift Squadron flight commander and Exercise Thracian Spring 17 mission commander. “We’re testing our ability to deploy throughout the European theatre and deliver tactical airlift wherever is needed, especially in support of reassuring our nation’s commitment to our allies.” The exercise is a direct reflection of the Signed Defense Cooperation Agreement, which the U.S. and Bulgaria signed in May 2006. The agreement gives the U.S. military access to facilitate joint training with the Bulgarian military. Since the agreement’s inception, the 37 AS has trained with the Bulgarian Air Force more than 10 times. “A lot of the training is happening

specialties providing support are: contingency air traffic control, aircrew flight equipment, contracting, weather, intelligence, maintenance, and medical. Bordelon is one of 60 Ramstein Airmen and said she’s very optimistic

about the week. “A lot of people showed up today and put in a long day,” she said. “We’re still pushing forward, so we can drive success for the rest of the deployment. For more photos, see Page 7.

The sound of clinking harnesses filled the air as the Airmen toiled ever upward toward the clouds. Fat

raindrops, too impatient to wait, leapt down to meet them and dripped off boots, hard hats, and gear. Far above the ground the Airmen focused on the task at hand, momentarily oblivious to those below them and the vast expanse of space in between. Six 1st Communications Main-

tenance Squadron Airmen participated in Tower Rescue and Climbing Training March 9, obtaining heights of approximately 50 feet to receive their certification. The 1 CMXS is in the only squadron within U.S. Air Forces in Europe capable of certifying Airmen in the course.

The American Red Cross: Serving those who serve The American Red Cross is one of the most well-known emergency response organizations in the world. Polls show that the Red Cross ranks at the top as one of the most recognizable brands among large, high-profile organizations. But what many don’t know is that the American Red Cross’ service to the armed forces has supported the military and their families for more than a century — from the Civil War in the 1860s to today at hundreds of military installations around the world, including deployed sites in Djibouti, Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan. Through the Red Cross Hero Care Network, they provide worldwide 24/7 support whenever and wherever it’s needed. Their paid and volunteer staff support over 2 million members of the military, veterans, and their families with many services. Here in the KMC, the local stations at Ramstein AB, Landstuhl, and Baumholder provide support to the whole footprint, and their Hero Welcome Center at Kleber is devoted to supporting in-processing soldiers. As part of “March is Red Cross Month,” the Ramstein station held a Red Cross Day at the Kaiserslautern Military Community Center. With a focus on building resiliency within the

military community for service members and their families, the Red Cross provided information on emergency preparedness, building a personal resiliency toolkit, public health and safety services, and volunteering. A section managed by the Ramstein High School Red Cross Youth Club focused on educating young children about Preparedness. Their healthy behaviors mascot, Scrubby Bear, engaged children in story telling about washing your hands and staying germ free. As with all of the services the Red Cross provides, they rely on a cadre of volunteers. In fact, it was Staff Sgt. Juan Mario Gomez-Navarro, a fuel systems craftsman for the 721st Aircraft Maintenance Squadron Enroute Unit, who was the project lead for the March 11 event. He coordinated by organizing the tables, recruiting volunteers, setting up the audio-visual and getting 100 balloons from the community center. “I wanted to volunteer with the Red Cross because part of being an AF Airman is giving back for the support we receive. I believe we owe it to our community to keep them informed of the resources they have available to them,” Gomez-Navarro said. “It was so much fun to watch hundreds of visitors engage with and learn about the Red Cross.” In fact, Red Cross Staff and volunteers are engaged every day supporting our military community — emer-

gency communication message services, through volunteer engagement for Red Cross and base programs, providing predeployment, newcomer’s and spouse briefings, partnering with the Armed Services Blood Program and supporting Base Disaster Response, just to name a few. Always looking for new ways to engage the community, the Red Cross has launched two programs that focus on community and family resiliency: the Disney Pillowcase Project and Reconnection Workshops. The mission of the Pillowcase Project, which is a free emergency preparedness program for third- to fifth-grade youth, is to increase children’s awareness and understanding of natural hazards and empower them to take preparedness actions. One important aspect of the project is for children to share what they have learned with family and friends, so they can help create a prepared community. The free and confidential Reconnection Workshops help service members and their families cope with the challenges of readjusting to life during the deployment cycle and promoting successful reengagement upon a service member’s return home. Run by licensed mental health professionals, these workshops encourage peerto-peer interaction and problem solving. These interactive workshops, such as communicating clearly or identifying depression, provide hands-on tools

National Prayer Breakfast unites community Story and photos by Airman 1st Class Joshua Magbanua 86th Airlift Wing Public Affairs

Military and civilian members from around the community gathered at the Ramstein Officers’ Club early in the morning March 13 to celebrate more than 200 years of religious freedom. The 86th Airlift Wing Chaplain Corps hosted the annual National Prayer Breakfast, where chaplains led the crowd in praying for different domains of society. Military members from the Air Force, Army, Navy and civilians participated. The tradition of an organized day of prayer began in the 1950s, when members of congress established prayer groups. The event was an opportunity for people of faith to gather and pray together and to remember one of the basic rights afforded by the U.S. Constitution in 1791: the right to practice any religion or no religion at all. In addition to the opening invocation and the final benediction, the prayer breakfast involved thee other prayers: a prayer for the nation, a prayer for leaders and a prayer for deployed troops. The keynote speaker for the event was Archbishop P. Broglio, head of the Archdiocese for the Military Services.

Broglio spoke about five virtues each person should possess in order to respond to different situations in life: prudence, justice, fortitude, temperance, and selflessness. “If we were to survey the history of our nation and look at the different figures in each period whose response and initiative earned them a niche in the pantheon of our collective memory, we would discover women and men who build on their natural virtues to contribute to the greatness of our nation,” he said. To illustrate how these five virtues come into play, Broglio shared the story of Joseph Lafleur, a U.S. military chaplain who was captured by Japanese troops during the invasion of the Philippines in World War II. Lafleur continued to minister to U.S. prisoners of war during his captivity and prevented the captors from using their prisoners to support their war effort. Soon, he was taken to the prison ship that eventually became his tomb. On Sept. 7, 1944, allied forces misidentified the ship and torpedoed it. Even while faced with imminent death, Lafleur helped some of his fellow prisoners escape. While some of the POWs escaped with their lives, Lafleur lost his own. “He became a source of strength for his fellow POWs,” Broglio said. “He

responded to a situation of crisis in a very positive way. My dear friends — that response to a crisis situation never happens in a vacuum. As you know better than I,

the military trains men and women to react to different situations.” As the military members, along with the rest of the U.S., celebrated their free-

dom to practice any religion of their choice — or no religion at all, Broglio encouraged them to continue serving their country selflessly and wholeheartedly.

Ramstein celebrates strength through history Story and photo by Senior Airman Jonathan Bass 86th Airlift Wing Public Affairs Approximately 30 Team Ramstein members gathered at the Ramstein Enlisted Club March 14 to honor and celebrate Women’s History Month. The symposium featured Col. Robin Gibson, U.S. Air Forces in Europe deputy director of communications, as the guest speaker. Gibson, who has more than 25 years of service, spoke on the importance of today’s female Airmen knowing about their predecessors who paved the way to today. “In 1960 we had our first female chief master sergeant,” Gibson said. “Chief Master Sgt. Grace Peterson, not only was she the first female chief, but she was part of the original group of senior NCOs to be selected for chief.” Gibson said remembering Airmen like Peterson is important because it honors Peterson’s dedication and keeps the hardships those women faced at the forefront of Gibson’s mind. Tomorrow’s policies will be made by Airmen serving today. The number of female Airmen in leadership positions has risen, but the need for representation is still there, Gibson said. “Today we have 28 female (general officers) in the Air Force,” Gibson said. “That’s the second lowest among the services. That means something

you have to know how to rescue people. You never know when someone could get hurt and you have to rescue them.” The rescue technique taught during the training was the basic form of rescue and one that could be accomplished by a single person. “The training we taught today was geared toward working with someone who got hurt and you didn’t have anybody else to help you,” Pulido said. “You can pull the victim up, undo their equipment, and rescue them by yourself.” Despite the continuing rain and chilling breeze whirling through the tower, the Airmen took turns rescuing and playing a simulated victim. ”The most difficult part was the rain, without a doubt,” said Staff Sgt. Ehren Brown, 1 CMXS unit deployment manager and student in the course. “Sometimes you have to work in the rain. It creates a hazard, so you try to avoid climbing while it’s raining, but sometimes you just have to do it.” With soaked-through gloves the victims were attached to an individual descender (ID) cable, along with an additional rope for safety purposes during the training. Their two pelican hooks, which are used to secure Airmen to towers while they climb, were removed from the tower and secured to their harness. Slowly, the rescuer lowered the victim to the soggy ground below. “This training is very important,” Brown said. “When somebody’s hanging there, their blood doesn’t circulate properly, so if they hang too long it can actually kill them. This training is essential for getting people down as quickly as possible. “I’ve been out of my career field for two years as a UDM,” he con-

tinued. “It would have taken me far longer to set up the ID rope, and the person would have been at more risk had I not been able to do this training today.” After the final victim was safely delivered to the bottom of the tower, those who still remained above slowly worked their way down the slick metal back to earth. While the majority of the training focused on the rescue aspect, it also provided a refresher for climbing towers in general. “I do enjoy climbing,” Brown said. “It’s been awhile since I’ve been able to do it, so I was really

glad to have the opportunity to come out here. Lowering people is definitely my favorite part.” Anyone who was a first-time climber was required to undergo the “scared of heights” test. It consisted of leaning all the way back from the tower and removing one foot at a time while touching their nose. The purpose of the test was to get the Airman comfortable with relying on their gear to prevent them from falling. “I hope the students learned safety comes first, but also that when they’re working aloft, it’s very easy to forget you’re at a high eleva-

tion,” Pulido said. “This teaches the importance of knowing where you’re anchoring and your basic climbing knowledge. “I think everyone in our career field should do this at least once a year because you never know when you might be tasked to go downrange or on a temporary duty and have to climb a tower,” he continued. “In a real-world scenario, we would have done exactly what we did today.” Even with their heads in the clouds, the 1 CMXS Airmen remained sharp and focused to safely complete their tower rescue and climbing training.

The program is in its second year. Team 21 has hosted the workshop both years. Attendees were greeted by Sergeant Major of the Army Daniel Dailey through a video introduction. “The initiative empowers squad leaders to build mutual trust and cohesion from the bottom up, by leading, training and forcing standards that model the Army ethics for their squad,” Dailey said. During the three-day workshop, NCOs were asked to work in a group setting to discuss current unit-level concerns and issues. Following the group evaluation of issues, the NCOs were asked to use the leadership skills learned during the workshop to problem solve and come up with practical solutions to their issues. Concluding the three days, the group

of selected NCOs had the opportunity to brief 21st TSC Command Sgt. Maj. Alberto Delgado, on current issues they were facing in their units and present possible solutions. “I’m here to make sure that all of the issues you all have; I am here to address them and potentially fix them,” Delgado said. “So that when I leave here today, you are in a better place than when we started”. The NIMS initiative workshop was spearheaded and led by 21st Special Troops Battalion Retention NCO Sgt. Lyndsay Monaco. “This initiative is really giving a voice back and empowering the NCOs to come up with solutions to common problems we face in the KMC area,” Monaco said. “The biggest take-away I want the Soldier to receive during the workshop is empowerment and passion. So hopefully, the NCOs here leave with a little more understanding of professional development for themselves but also empowerment to take the same initiative and motivation back to their units and start a movement like we are trying to do here in the KMC and in Europe.” Along with Monaco, eight additional NIMS mentors helped run the breakout sessions, including two visitors from the Center for the Army Profession and Ethics located in West Point, New York. Of the attending NCOs, three confirmed that they too wanted to host

the NIMS initiative workshop within the next several months in their own units. Sgt. Sean Anderson, 18th Military Police Brigade, expressed how he wanted to implement the initiative within his own unit. “The entire program I want to take back and have the opportunity to get the program out to the Grafenwoehr area because I don’t believe anyone

has anything like this,” Anderson said. “One of the things that really struck out to me, is that there is a major presence involved from the higher ups, listening to us and really starting to say ‘Hey we want to change the Army for the better, how can we do that?’” For more information on the “Not In My Squad” Army directed initiative, visit http://cape.army.mil/ not-in-my-squad/.

7th MSC Civil Affairs Soldiers learn Russian language basics Story and photos by Lt. Col. Jefferson Wolfe 7th Mission Support Command Public Affairs Seven 7th Mission Support Command Soldiers spent a week learning Russian. The Army Reserve Soldiers were from the 361st Civil Affairs Brigade headquarters in Kaiserslautern and its direct reporting unit, the 457th Civil Affairs Battalion in Grafenwoehr. The introductory class took place from March 14 to 17 at the 7th MSC headquarters building on Daenner Kaserne. The Defense Language Institute mobile training team conducted the training, said Maj. Zulma Andrews, the 361st CA BDE operations officer. “It’s basically a foundation class,” said Irina Mikhailova, the course instructor, from DLI on Ramstein. The goal was for the students to get comfortable reading words in See RUSSIAN, Page 11

Russian, which is rated as one of the more difficult languages for English speakers to learn, she said. DLI ranks Russian as a Class III language, and the hardest languages are Class IV. Students learned to read the characters in the Russian language, which consists of 33 letters from the Cyrillic script. Remembering the different letters was a challenge because some of the letters look the same as in English but represent different sounds in Russian, said Sgt. Justine Westbrook, 361st CA BDE. “The English N sounds like H in Russian,” she said. The day before the class started, she returned from a personal trip to Hungary. “It was difficult, because I wanted to reply in Hungarian,” she said. She plans to attend college in Hungary this fall and was stationed there on active duty before she transitioned to the Army Reserve. Sgt. Maj. Bobby White also speaks Italian, which he learned from living in Italy for 16 years. “Russian is harder to learn than Italian,” he said. He did have some experience with Russian before the class, however, as he worked with colleagues at United States European Command who spoke it.

Kaiserslautern American Staff Sgt. Jared McCauley also speaks German and French. “Every language is hard to learn,” he said. A student has to put in time and effort to learn any language, he added. At the end of the week, the students’ goals were to know the Russian alphabet, some basic greetings, politeness phrases, words for family and food as well as some military phrases, Mikhailova said. There was a final practical exercise as well, she said. “We’ll be going to a Russian cafe, and they will interview the owners,” she added, noting they learned enough during the week for basic conversations. “I think that will help prepare us for the real world,” Westbrook said. The class is a pilot program to build proficiency by holding one day of language training every month, White said. Five of the students are in positions that call for knowledge of the Russian language, Andrews said. Others are attending to broaden their knowledge. “It’s all part of our commander’s directive to ensure Russian training and develop our Command Language Program that is still in its infancy,” she said. This introductory class from DLI may open doors to future training opportunities, she added.

Koenigsberger Klopse (German meatballs with cream sauce)

Ingredients (for 4 persons)

FOR MEATBALLS: 1 ½ pounds veal mince meat 2 medium eggs Salt ground white pepper to taste 1 teaspoon mace 1 tablespoon butter Organically grown lemon, zested ½ tablespoon lemon juice ½ tablespoon chopped parsley ½ cup bacon, diced 2 medium onions diced ½ tablespoon chopped anchovies, with oil drained 1 cup white bread crumbs

In a meat grinder, put in the veal, bacon and onion mixture, and anchovies. Use the finest setting on the grinder. Put in bowl and add salt and ground white pepper to taste, bread crumbs and eggs. Form the meatballs into 1 ½ inch balls. In a separate pot add butter and flower. Let it slightly simmer on low heat. Add the veal broth and milk. On medium heat stir the sauce for 15 minutes. Add seasoning, lemon zest and lemon juice. Add the juice from the caper jar as well as the capers and liquid cream. Put the meat balls in the sauce at this point. Add bay leaf. 7th MSC “COHORT” platoon brothers in arms by Sgt. 1st Class Matthew Chlosta 7th Mission Support Command Public Affairs Sgt. 1st Class John Wessely and Sgt. 1st Class Mark Korte were promoted Jan. 21, 2017 — and not by coincidence. The two Soldiers, both civil affairs noncommissioned officers with Company D, 457th Civil Affairs Battalion, 7th Mission Support Command, knew each other many years ago and were reunited more recently. Korte and Wessely originally met at basic training as part of an Army pilot program in the mid-1980s called the COHORT (Cohesion Operational Readiness and Training) Soldier replacement system program during their initial Army enlistment. The fledgling COHORT program’s intent was to keep Soldiers together during their entire Army career from basic training to retirement (when applicable), to promote unit cohesion, military readiness and family stability, according to information from Korte. Wessely and Korte entered one station unit training, which is backto-back basic and advanced individual training completed in one location, at Fort Knox, Ky., in August of 1986. They graduated together as Cavalry Scouts that October. After they completed their training together, Wessely and Korte were

stationed in Bindlach, Germany, near Bayreuth, with the 1st Squadron, 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment in late 1986. Korte was in Troop A and Wessely was assigned to Troop B. All of the original 40 COHORT “Package Platoon” Soldiers except three were sent to 1/2 ACR. Then life happened. Korte left the Army after his initial term in service, while Wessely continued to serve, but not on activeduty. Fast forward to 2009. “By chance, I saw John at a local video store in Bayreuth,” Korte said.

Both were shocked by their first encounter after 20 years. “When I saw Mark at the video store on that day, I couldn’t believe that he was still here in Bayreuth,” Wessely said. Korte was also floored by the serendipity. “We were both stunned that although we had both ETS’d (were discharged from the Regular Army) in 1989, we both had no idea the other stayed in Bayreuth. “We got to talking, and I told him about the reserves, and next thing you know, he is in,” Wessely added.

Wessley told Korte he had joined the Army Reserve. “I had no idea that there was such a thing,” Korte said. “Nevertheless, I joined just a week later.” Both were promoted to Sergeant in 2011, on the same day, then to Staff Sergeant on the same day in 2013 and finally to Sergeant First Class on Jan. 21. Korte and Wessely also deployed together to Afghanistan in 20122013 with the 457th CA Bn.’s Delta Company. “When I talk to old army buddies from back in the day, they find it really amazing that Mark and I are still together in the same company and getting promoted at the same time,” Wessely said. This is fulfilling the intent of the “COHORT Package Platoon,” Korte said. “This is a very special day for me,” Korte said, Jan. 21, after being promoted. “The fact that SFC (Sergeant First Class) Wessely and myself went through basic training together over 30 years ago, (and) after both having (a) 20-year break in service to be promoted through the ranks at the same time, to now being senior NCOs together is beyond unreal, a real honor.” There might be one more day that Korte and Wessely can attend the same ceremony together. “Who knows, maybe we can work something out so that we can retire on the same day,” Wessely said.

Sports physical policy changes Courtesy of Ramstein Public Affairs

Normally, one Saturday in the spring and fall the Ramstein Family Health Clinic hosts an event to mass process students who require sports physicals prior to the deadline for students to sign up for sports. That day would be fast approaching, but with long recommended practices from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the clinic will no longer be hosting the semi-annual sports physical day and is recommending annual well exams for all children, regardless of age. “The biggest concern is that a sports physical only looks at measures that are specific to sports-related needs,” said Pediatric Doctor Maj. Matthew McDonough. “For students who are only seen for less than 10 minutes through the sports physical day, phy-

sicians may miss important information that affects a child’s overall health. Preventative medicine is the foundation of general pediatrics.” McDonough said, conversely, an annual well exam will cover all areas included in a sports physical as well as develop a collaborative relationship between the parents, children and the physician. The AAP has been recommending well child visits for 17 years because it is important children be seen at a time in life of rapid growth and development. At a well child visit, parents are able to more broadly discuss their child’s development. A well child visit gives parents a chance to see how much their child has grown since the last visit, discuss milestones, social behaviors and learning along with concerns with nutrition and safety in the home and at school. Parents can also refill their

child’s prescriptions, schedule immunizations and any other services the medical facility provides to address the child’s comprehensive medical needs. It also gives the student a chance to talk with a medical professional about medical issues they may be nervous about speaking to their parents about. If a child wants to play a sport and has had a well exam within 12 months of the application, the parent can drop off the sports clearance form to the clinic to be filled out by the primary care manager. Parents must fill out the front portion of the form prior to dropping it off and make a copy of the completed Sports Physical Clearance Form to keep for their records, McDonough said. “This change is always rough for the first few months. We have implemented it at other bases and it has become a great convenience for some

parents since they no longer have to make two appointments to have their child seen during the year,” McDonough said. McDonough said that if a military parent has recently moved to the area and their child was seen for a comprehensive health assessment prior to their permanent change of station, or has had a well child visit in the last year at another station, the clinic will be able to see a record of that visit and also be able to fill out a clearance form for that child. If the child’s last physical is due to expire, the forms can be filled out and it is the parent’s responsibility to schedule another well-visit at the specific date needed to prevent expiration of the participation forms. A guided tour will begin at 11:15 a.m. at the historical town hall. Cost is €4. The town wall was built in the 15th century. After the town came under the domination of the electoral palatinate in 1471, the new authorities enforced the current walls. With the Iron Gate, construction of the fortification came to an end in 1514. Until the beginning of the 19th century only two gates led out of town. Besides the two town gates, the Iron Gate in the east and the Hain gate in the southwest, about 20 towers were put up within the wall. Today five towers are left. It is known as one of the nicest and most complete town fortification facilities in the Pfalz. The competition is coordinated each year by the Civilian Marksmanship Program. with first year shooter Alison Ganous right behind him with an 1120. Capt. Victoria Jackson shot an 1119, and

senior Renee Sahli, the team’s only third year shooter, scored an 1117. Sarah Robertson also contributed with a solid 1111 showing. Lt. Col. Robert Meyer, team coach and AFJROTC instructor, was extremely proud of the team. “The cadets worked very hard this year to both qualify and to compete at this level,” Meyer said. “It was the first time an Air Force team from Europe was invited to the competition, so naturally we are thrilled with the results, especially considering the school has had a team for only three years.” Jackson, a junior, is already setting her sights on next year’s competition. “Flying over to Ohio to compete was a great experience with the whole team,” Jackson said. “We’re losing a few members, but I’m confident we will come back just as strong next year, if not stronger.”

Geierlay, Germany’s Longest Suspension Bridge

Story and photos by Gemma McGowan Contributing writer to MilitaryinGermany.com

then turn on a side road on the left which brings you out to the field.

Opened only in October 2015, Geierlay is Germany’s longest suspension bridge, and it makes for a wonderful day out in the stunning German countryside! The suspension bridge is 360 meters long and 100 meters high. Do you dare to cross it?! My Arriving When I added the town of Mörsdorf   into my GPS, I felt like I was about to journey through Middle Earth to destroy Frodo’s ring. After a beautiful drive through RheinlandPfalz, we arrived at the Geierlay Visitor Center. The visitor center is in a modern wood building which inside has a cafe and bathrooms. There are no bathrooms by the bridge, so it would be suggested to use the bathroom before you depart! The center also has a designated parking area. There is no cost to go on the bridge, however there is a fee of 2 Euros per day for parking. A  request from the visitor center is that you do not try to drive to the bridge,  but to reach it  only on the paths by walking or biking. Also, you are required to respect the beautiful landscape and pick up any trash you may make.

The paved walkway is 1.7 kilometers to the bridge. The way to the bridge is actually a really beautiful walk! If you have a little one, I suggest to bring a stroller or wagon. If not, you may end up like me and have a child on your shoulders on the journey back! Strollers might not fit on the actual bridge, but there is an area where you can leave them.

When you turn the final corner of the bridge’s path, there is an area where you can sit and take in the amazing view. After we admired the scenery for a little bit, we were ready to walk across. Being there on a weekday, we pretty much had the bridge to ourselves! The only thing surrounding the bridge is untouched, breathtaking forest. It is chicken soup for the soul! Walking on the bridge was very thrilling and I felt safe on it! Since we were not in a rush, we had time to take in the spectacular surroundings. It is said that it takes six minutes to briskly walk across to the other side; however, it took us much longer because of the snow and taking photos. For anyone looking to expand the walk back, you also have the possibility to take a hike in the woods. There is a trail map with all of the routes. One hiking route will take you across the bridge, down under the

bridge and then up to the other side. Sounds fun and we will definitely return to Geierlay this spring!

How to Get There Address: Geierlay Visitor Center Kastellaun Straße 23 56290 Mörsdorf The drive to Geierlay is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes northwest of Kaiserslautern. Author’s Profile: Gemma McGowan is a mom, a veteran and an Army civilian living in Wiesbaden, Germany. With New Jersey roots, she is enjoying her extended European vacation.

Head to the Bridge Time to head to the bridge! When walking to the road, there is a sign post pointing to where you start the walk to the bridge. You turn right on the main road,
