Q&A

Saturn Williams Staff Writer | @saturn.sjsu

Dotty Moppet does not want to scare people when she performs. She wants to make them laugh and cry as she showcases the joy and darkness of humanity through clowning. Christina Lewis, who performs as Dotty Moppet, is 63 years old and has been a clown for 40 years, now passing on her knowledge as an instructor at The Clown School of San Francisco. From the Tramp to the Harlequin, Lewis discussed the philosophy of clowns and recalled her most impactful experiences in the art form while dissuading myths, fears and tropes surrounding these colorful characters.
