Signed in full upper right; some rippling of the canvas; housed in a period gilt frame. A large format portrait of Pearl Schweig (later Copalov, and then Goldman) fancifully portrayed as a warrior from Classical Greek mythology, wearing a plumed helmet and tunic of chain mail and mounted bareback on a large horse. The image is a detailed study for Lindsay’s oil painting Amazons (1939), a larger scale work which now forms part of the collection of the Norman Lindsay Gallery and Museum, Springwood.
