Youth Leadership Award

Hello! My name is Analuisa Cervantes and I am seventeen years old, I’m a high school senior at Strive Prep SMART. I am hoping to go into college and major in Neuroscience with a minor in Global Health. I moved to the United States when I was one year old and I have been living in SW Denver for about fifteen years. I started to get involved with my community during my Freshman year of high school when I joined the Colorado Youth Congress Through this organization I have been able to advocate for my community and work with school board members in DPS to get more school funding towards mental health resources of low income students. Additionally, I’ve provided community service with Clothes to Kids of Denver, Denver Health, and the Boys and Girls Club.

Beyond high school, I hope to work in the Global Health field mostly with women and children affected by HIV. I am motivated by seeing the health disparities and stigma in the United States and want to work with more vulnerable populations I’m not sure what kind of health care worker I want to become, but I hope to have direct contact with my patients The organizations that I hope to work with are Doctors Without Borders or Partners in Health I am grateful to have grown up in a community that values giving back even when you don’t have a lot to give.

Mi nombre es Analuisa Cervantes y tengo diecisiete años, soy estudiante de último año de secundaria en Strive Prep SMART Espero ir a la universidad y especializarme en neurociencia con una especialización en salud global Me mudé a los Estados Unidos cuando cumplí un año y he estado viviendo en el suroeste de Denver durante unos quince años. Comencé a involucrarme con mi comunidad durante mi primer año de escuela secundaria cuando me uní al Congreso Juvenil de Colorado. A través de esta organización he podido abogar por mi comunidad y trabajar con los miembros de la junta escolar en DPS para obtener más fondos escolares para los recursos de salud mental de los estudiantes de bajos ingresos. Además, he proveido servicio comunitario con el Clothes to Kids of Denver, Denver Health y Boys and Girls Club.

Más allá de la escuela secundaria, espero trabajar en el campo de la salud global principalmente con mujeres y niños afectados por el VIH Me motiva ver las disparidades en salud y el estigma en los Estados Unidos y quiero trabajar con poblaciones más vulnerables Estoy seguro de qué tipo de trabajador de la salud quiero convertirme, pero espero tener contacto directo con mis pacientes. Las organizaciones con las que espero trabajar son Médicos sin Fronteras o Socios en Salud. Estoy agradecido de haber crecido en una comunidad que valoraba retribuir incluso cuando no tienes mucho para dar.
