REFLECTING ON SOCIETY AND THE TIMES THROUGH ART SANDY COHEN’S ART COLLECTION STEALS OUR HEARTS By Veda Falmouth

I

n this time of rapid change and adjustment, the Hamptons artist Sandy Cohen has been a frequent topic of conversation because her innovative art reflects current happenings. Her work is spectacular. Social Life sat down with Sandy to learn more. What are you currently working on? I’ve been commissioned by one of my longtime clients to create large-scale matching paintings for her homes in Manhattan, Paris, and London. I’ve never embarked on this type of project, and it’s been very interesting so far. Has the pandemic ignited an artistic flame? This pandemic has become completely Sandy Cohen politicized. There is a change coming. People pulling in different directions. It feels like a time of either submission or revolt. This fascinates me, inspiring me to create pieces reflecting what people are truly thinking and feeling during this confusing time. Can you talk to us about your painting style? The truth is that I don’t have one painting style. I think that’s part of what makes me unique as an artist in this current market. I refuse to conform to the idea that an artist has to stick to one repetitive style. That seems like the opposite of what true art is. It’s boring. It’s safe. Art must evolve along with the artist and the world around them. Tell us about the profiles of some of your recent clients? I’m truly humbled by the fact that my work appeals to a very broad clientele. Bankers, Wall Street types, CEOs of well-known

corporations, builders, WWF wrestlers, fashion designers, film producers, doctors, hip-hop artists, royals, actors, even children enjoy and own my work. What’s more interesting than the profiles of my clients are the personal stories they share with me and the friendships I develop with them. I enjoy working with people one-on-one and they enjoy being a part of the artistic process and experience. We just love your work! What is next for you? I’m exhibiting at Gallery 23 in Chelsea this summer. I’m also working on an animated series being developed by my collector Saud Al Thani, who’s become more like a brother to me. I love animation so I’m stoked! Sandy Cohen sandycohenart.com Instagram: @sandycohensart Social Life
