More To Love Is Back In the Immersive Event Game By Mikkel Hyldebrandt After a year of forced hiatus because of the pandemic, More To Love (MTL) is back with a signature immersive event, a collaboration with Queen Butch events. Moreover, MTL has taken the time to regroup the organization, which means new team members and an ambitious series of experiences and events. Peach spoke to MTL founder Chad Wick about how MTL is going to spread the love this year Tell us again what More To Love is for those who don’t yet already know. More To Love (MTL) is non-profit charity organization that is made up of amazing volunteers. Our mission is to simply help fulfill needs whether it be for an individual, a community, or an organization. It has four main foundational pillars that showcase who we are and how we want to guide our future endeavors: Love Yourself, Love your Neighbor, Love your Community, and Love Beyond. This is made visibly apparent with the four corners in our logo.

through various aspects so moving forward we need specific skill sets and structure. More To Love has added a few official members to help MTL grow and reach our potential in all of our various endeavors. We are still completely made up of volunteers and cannot do what we do without each and every one of you. Check our social media (Facebook @ATLMTL) to see who is on the team. More To Love will be back on June 26 with a collaboration with Queen Butch. Tell us about this fabulous tea dance! Yesssss! We are back! And what a perfect way to come back. Queen Butch’s events are next level with great music and creative entertainment. Like More To Love, Queen Butch wants you to feel immersed in a completely new experience so by us teaming up together you can expect something pretty spectacular. Music by the incredible Tedd Patterson and opening is our very own David Knapp. Proceeds this year benefit Atlanta Pride.

More To Love was forced to forego a whole year of events because of Covid. What did it feel like to have to make that decision last year? As with many in-person charity organizations and events, we had to take a step back during the crazy times of Covid. This time allowed for us to reflect and re-evaluate who we are, what we stand for, and how we wanted to implement change moving forward. It was hard, because we missed our community and our regular events. We had to pivot from our normal More To Love and Queen Butch seems like a match ways of giving and think outside the box. Normalizing Queerness, One Gay Kiss at a Time

‘Love, Victor’ stars Michael Cimino and George Sear on bringing gay sex to their YA series and impacting LGBTQ+ youth By Chris Azzopardi “Love, Victor,” now in its second season, refuses to navigate coming out as simply a one-note experience. The gay teen-romance, a series spinoff of the groundbreaking “Love, Simon” feature film, launched its debut season last year on Hulu. The first season was created for Disney+, but the company declined to air it after filming was complete. The show, Disney execs decided, was too grown-up for its young audience. Season 2, then, was created with Hulu audiences in mind, which means more mature emotional themes and a good amount of gay nooky — in fact, an entire episode is devoted to the show’s romantic leads, Victor (Michael Cimino) and Benji (George Sear), having sex. This season, the series follows Victor as a newly out high schooler, from all sorts of Benji-Victor (“Venji,” as they’ve been collectively coined) romantic side plots –– meeting the parents, learning about gay sex — to how homophobia, when complicated by deep-rooted cultural and religious beliefs, has to be unlearned. Before you read any further, know that this interview with Cimino and Sear, who talk about all that making out (and why they opted out of an intimacy coach for those sex scenes), includes some spoilers.

Cimino: I was still, um, not even a thought! I wasn’t even a thought in either of my parents’ heads. But no, I think we’re moving in the right direction. I don’t think we’re in a very different time, but I think that we’re moving in the right direction (with) shows like this, where young LGBT youth can watch it and be like, “Oh, this is normal. This is OK.” I feel like a lot of straight teens are like, “Oh yeah, I can make out with this person or this person, and it’s completely fine.” But it should be exactly the same for the LGBT community. They should feel no pressure and (it) should be completely normal to just kiss people in public.

Or have sex with your boyfriend and have your mom or dad catch you, because that also happens with gay people. Cimino: Yes — yes, it does. It totally does. And I think that, obviously, right now, we’re definitely talking about… this show is definitely (about) queer Latinos and I love that about it. I think that it’s kind of exactly like every other straight teen show but except through a queer lens. I love that part about “Love, Victor.” Sear: It does show the difficult realities of coming out in today’s age, which is a difficult thing for most You guys owe me a few boxes of tissues for all the people, but also just the joy in celebrating who you are crying I did last night binging this season. and embracing who you are on the other side of that. George Sear: Yeah, it’s an emotional one. And living your truth. Michael Cimino: It’s a roller coaster, for sure. Sear: I, myself, was tearing up yesterday because I I think gay sex has been really neglected on television watched the first three episodes, and particularly the and I was pleased to see the second season of “Love, scenes with the parents. Victor” really go there with the sex. What did you appreciate about the way that this season tackled sex, I also just have to start by saying that if I saw two George? boys making out as much as you two do in this Sear: I think just having LGBTQ writers bring their season of “Love, Victor” when I was 16 years old, stories and their experiences into the script brings this I would have made out with a lot more guys. Like, authenticity and realness to the stories. So the writing where were you in 1995? is all there. You know, as an actor to be able to play this

Michael, are you Team Venji or Team Vahim? Cimino: Oh, man. I feel like… I don’t know. I haven’t been able to watch the show in its entirety, so I can’t really say. I’m so torn. Sear: Yeah. He doesn’t want to let you down on this interview, that’s what he’s saying. Cimino: I feel so torn. Sear: No, I think ultimately you probably just want Victor to be happy. Cimino: Yes, exactly. We just want Victor to be happy. That’s a pretty good non-answer. Sear: That’s a very good deflective answer, isn’t it? Cimino: I’m just… I’m confused, OK! part and then have such great quality writing is really kind of everything. What about you, Mike? Cimino: Honestly, the whole representation of Victor’s sexual awakening and his sex life with Benji definitely relies a lot on George and I’s chemistry. I think that George is — sorry to give you your flowers on here — so easy to work with and so incredibly understanding and so willing to just do things and try different things (to) see what works and what doesn’t. Sear: Yeah, it felt very explorative on set, didn’t it? Cimino: Yeah, for sure. Sear: They did say, “Do you want an intimacy coach?” and we felt, to be honest, both really dedicated to these characters and wanted to honor this writing and we just sort of felt like we had a closeness and were able to do that on set. Cimino: We actually completely opted out of having an intimacy coach. George and I both felt like we were very comfortable with each other already. We really just went for it, and I think that that kind of reads on screen, where it felt very explorative. It felt very new and exciting, and I think that’s something that’s really, really cool. I don’t know how you guys identify, but there’s this conversation about straight people playing queer roles and if you are straight, you know what, you did your job. You were so believable in these parts. I really felt this relationship was a real relationship. Cimino: Thank you. Sear: Thank you for saying that. Cimino: That means a lot to hear because that is obviously a topic for discussion, and I’m glad it’s a conversation we’re having. I think conversations such as those should be had, but I think, realistically, it relies purely on an actor-to-actor basis. I feel like there are actors that are taking LGBT roles and not representing the community in an accurate way. They’re taking it as a cash grab and then they don’t represent the community afterwards, where it’s like you’re not advocating for the community. They’re not donating money to LGBT charities, they’re not trying to do things that will help the LGBT community, but they’re just taking the role because it’s a cash grab or, “Oh, it seems like it will make a difference in my career.” What has it been like for both of you to bring this Venji romance to life on screen? Sear: It’s an ever-ongoing journey, particularly the difference between Season 1 and Season 2. Being on Hulu this time around, being able to tell more realistic stories, it’s been great to be able to continue playing these characters and exploring their journeys collectively and individually and just exploring it in other areas, really, that we maybe weren’t able to do in Season 1 (on Disney+). So, it’s been great, and I hope we get the chance to get back to it. Cimino: Definitely. You have to do it again. You cannot leave me like you left me at the end of this season. Sear: No, no. We’ll manifest it. Cimino: Yes. For sure, for sure. We’ve got to manifest it.

My opinion on the third season is that you three just form a throuple. Sear: Hey, we’ll pitch it. Cimino: (Laughs.) Yeah, yeah, yeah, we’ll pitch it. We’ll put you in the “special thanks.” Because the show has had an immense impact on LGBTQ+ youth — I mean, it would have changed my life, like I told you, when I was 16 — what’s one letter you’ve received from a queer fan that really made you feel like what you were doing here was really affecting lives? Sear: Off the bat, one that sticks out to me — because there have been many — (was a) message from someone who’s in the military. I don’t think they had a very good experience with their sexuality, obviously, with the way things are in the military. And they said watching the show really just made them feel some sort of acceptance, and heard. Cimino: I’ve gotten so many messages, but some of the ones that stick out to me the most are (from) people that are literally Latino and they’re like, “This is my exact story and this is exactly what I’ve been going through with my mom, or my dad, or my uncle.” It’s crazy to know that we’re still not in that place where people can just accept their children or their family for just being true to who they are as people. I think that it’s really inspiring for me as an artist to continue to push myself harder and to continue to represent the community in an accurate way because I get to see the impact it’s making on people’s lives. LOVE IS LOVE, INC. Why “Corporate Pride” isn’t the devil in disguise by Scott King

mainstream venue of the multibillion-dollar It’s Pride Month, y’all. Cue the queer community: advertising industry – and nothing more. It’s not cultural appropriation. It’s not performative exploitation. It’s not any of those other buzzwords that social media and some queer publications are telling you that it is. It’s just the vulgarity of the American dollar moving slowly into the future. As the laissez-faire Zen master of nonperformative one wokeness Donald Draper once said, “If you one? don’t like advertising, stop buying things.”

“Oh my gah. I cannot believe Budweiser’s ad using the word ‘queen’ and with a rainbow flag over a beer can. That’s our word! That’s exploitation! That’s cultural appropriation! And it’s literally just so wrong.” Maybe before.

you’ve How

heard ’bout

that this

“What is up with these corporations ostentatiously celebrating pride and begging us for our money? What is it they think they can do, just swoop in here during pride month and be the hero? What has Anheuser-Busch ever done for me?”

I agree with Don. I firmly support not buying things.

Remember that time in high school when you somehow got invited to a kegger and got so blitzed that you realized that life is just a beautiful river swimming through the trees? That was Budweiser. You’re welcome.

And when the Target Corporation was found to be supporting candidates for federal office who were actively opposed to gay rights, I stopped buying my gift cards there. That’s how we activate the politics of the purse.

Budweiser has never promised you anything more than a nice buzz. It’s a corporation. One that manufactures and delivers a product. A corporation that whispers to you through advertising: “Psssst. Come over here. Drink this funny, delicious, somehow-very-popular cheap watered-down beer. Our subpar, readily available suds will make your life better if you just give us the bread, Fred.”

Thus, if you resent corporations for cashing in on pride and are suspicious that deep down they’re just opportunistic hypocrites trying to make a quick buck off of celebratory queers while floating down our parade routes without a care in the world, then prove it. Do your research.

That’s how it works. Corporations promise you happiness and freedom from fear if you just click that button and purchase their product or service. In 2021, these corporations know exactly who you are and how to convince you that drinking their beer will make you happy and gay forever.

Take Chick-fil-A, for example. If I’m going to get diabetes, I don’t want it to be anti-queer diabetes.

Find out whether or not a pride-pursuing company has a robust non-discrimination policy on its books. Find out if they proactively pursue diversity in their staff and business partners. Find out to which politicians and political organizations they donate. Find out what percentage of the proceeds from their XYZ Pride T-shirts and coffee mugs actually go to organizations that help support the LGBTQ+ community. And while you’re at it, find out what the word “proceeds” means; that one has always puzzled me.

Corporations are rarely heroes and are even more rarely agents of social change. However, it is worth noting when visual culture progresses through advertising. Above all else, do more than just parrot and repost popular ideas that will get you For example, when Campbell’s aired a likes and affirmation amidst virtual orgies of commercial in the 1970s showing a black family confirmation bias. Do some digging, then report sitting down to a dinner of piping-hot Campbell’s back to the think tank of social media with Soup, it changed the way Americans thought your findings. In the meantime, please don’t about family. And again, in the 2010s, Campbell’s clutter my newsfeed with your inane memes. produced a spot where a gay couple sat with their young son and fed him creamy soup while Y’all means all. Happy Pride! impersonating both Darth Vader and Chewbacca (enter the Star Wars tie-in, of course.) It was all groovy and cool and oh-so fetch, and it even received angry Karen-style backlash from homophobic soccer-parent organizations like One Million Moms. All in a day’s work for corporate advertising. So how about we take corporate pride for what it is: a sign of progress in the

A fashion show displaying the subtle "Pride Line" released by the Braves included members of the community and was a nice pre-cursor to the next massive announcement that came to benefit Lost-N-Found Youth. In coordination with the Braves' Pride Night, Georgia Power donated a whopping $15,000 to the organization The Atlanta Braves hosted their to aid their efforts of keeping annual Pride Night at Truist Park on LGBTQIA+ youth off the streets with June 15 where members of the shelter and food. LGBTQIA+ community and the team's season long fans came together to celebrate Stonewall Pride Month. While the Braves did not win the game against the Boston Red Sox that evening, there was a lot to celebrate throughout the evening. Starting off at the Coca Cola Roxy, the evening commenced with a dance party and libations in the massive space that held a live DJ as well as local sports teams and organizations that are part of the LGBTQIA+ community. Patrons from all walks of life flooded into the Roxy to celebrate Pride Month; and while I am not sure of the previous years turnout, the energy was certainly palpable in the wake of the COVID pandemic with people itching to leave their homes for some sense of normalcy. The evening consisted of gay anthems from Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" to Robyn's "Dancing on My Own", and hits ranging from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s.

All in all, the evening was a nice reminder that there is a massive community in Atlanta and the surrounding suburbs that is not just the bars. People descended on Truist Park for an evening of community, and that's what they got. And while my friend jokingly asked his husband, "What time is kick off?" there was an air of joy, laughter and camaraderie in a time post isolation where the only connection we had was virtual. The community needed this event now more than ever, and the laughter that filled the stadium and the Roxy was clear evidence of that. -Christopher Gonzalez LaCorte

We're going on a voyage, a voyage to PLANET YES! In this futuristic, spacey, dragtastic music video, Rigel Gemini and Atlanta drag queens SZN Alxndr and Molly Rimswell deliver full-on artistry. With 80s club vibes, whimsical visuals, and just enough camp, this music video tells the full story of Rigel Gemini's experimental queer dance club hit "Planet Yes". Right in time for Pride month, this non-binary, queer music artist is diving into avant garde art videos for the first time. In the end, the song and video are about freedom of expression and finding a boundless place of affirmation. The last year has been full of no’s, limitations, and rules, but Rigel Gemini opens the door to “YES” in his music video for Planet Yes. With his previous, “I Can’t” “Gorgeois” and “Coffee In My Cup” delivering sassy queen vibes, this music video goes into an 80s-inspired futuristic universe, complete with an icewhite-mullet-astronaut look and astronomical eye candy. Halfway between David Bowie and 80s sci-fi, this music video pushes Rigel Gemini’s artistry in a whole new direction.

The song itself was produced in collaboration with Jersey club music artist DJ Telly Tellz (of Ciara’s “Level Up”) with a sickening 80s dance beat and club banger moments. Full of skipping vocals, unusual Gaga-esque voiceover, and ecstatic builds, this song is an explosion of joy. “This was one of the fastest songs I put together with DJ Telly Tellz, and also one of my favorites. I was feeling a lot of different emotions at that moment – a sort rebirth into the world as an artist, and I was thinking about the concept of ‘yes’ and freedom versus ‘no’ and limitations. What would a world be where everything is ‘yes’ and we are free to be our authentic selves, no one holds us back, and we can experience freedom and boundlessness. As a nonbinary, queer person, we can only imagine this place in our fantasies. That’s the feeling I wanted to get out in this video,” said Rigel Gemini. “Sometimes some of the simplest concepts and simplest songs are the most fun.”

From the moment you walk into Pullman Yards, you feel as though you’re becoming part of an underground yet elite experience (similar to how I felt when I first saw Cirque under the big tent). The yard is scattered with various shipping containers that the owners and development team have transformed into coffee huts and “food truck” like stands, featuring various local eats such as King of Pops and Kamayan ATL. The experience begins here, with the front of the main building adorned in a full size window display featuring Van Gogh’s most famous work, “Starry Night”. Open the doors and you’re immediately transported to his universe, beginning with a wall of sunflowers to set the tone for the first room of the exhibit. After greeters check you in, you step into a room filled with various works that span from his more obscure portraits and scenery to his more famous works such as Starry Night and his famous bandaged ear self-portrait. You begin to learn more about Van Gogh that is not in the textbooks. You read about his depression, his irrational behavior, his friendships, his enemies, and his hospital stays… all while still in awe of the success of this artist, after his death. He was troubled to say the least, and in this room you are surrounded by his gravitas. The story of seeing landscapes that were topics of his paintings while being in isolation ring too true for most as we get over the recent hump of Covid-19. Narration and musical accompaniment set the tone for the solemn but passionate energy that surround his work, preparing the audience to move into the projection mapping portion of the experience.

www.peachatl.com

Come around a dimly lit corner, you begin to notice movement on the walls and floor; the projection mapping experience is about to begin. As I came around the corner, water moved through the space against the flow of the room, tricking my mind as if I was moving against the tide. Find a spot to stand or sit, and be transported on a journey where you are physically placed within the paintings themselves. Scan the mammoth room , and you are in awe of the scale of this installation. Saying you are dwarfed by the sheer size of the room is an understatement. Max Richter’s recomposition of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons begins to accompany minimal narration filling the space and making the perspective projections that much larger. Moving around the room, there is perspective from every angle and you are quite literally, in the paintings themselves. Stick around for the duration of the presentation and be transported through various paintings, weather patterns and elements before moving in to the next room with activities for all ages.

A wall of coloring book pages featuring famous works welcomes you into the next space where you notice crayons and paper scattered across various desks where adults find their inner child, and children find their inner artist. Walls of virtual reality headsets fill the room as people with their goggles on gaze around pointing and commentating on what they see. While the VR experience is not included in general admission, you can purchase the addition while in the space. Finally, in a truly classic “theme park” move you discover the gift shop before stumbling back out the same doors you entered about an hour ago, bringing your awareness back to the yard in front of you with children running around, adults enjoying beverages, and families taking selfies in front of the exhibit. It truly is an experience for the whole family and everyone can take something from the exhibit. If there is one thing that I took from Van Gogh’s story, it’s this: Despite all the turmoil and heartbreak of the human experience, if you stay true to your passion you will be leaving a legacy of truth and vulnerability once you are gone. -CHRISTOPHER GONZALEZ LACORTE

YES! BREATHE! It’s normal if you’re a caretaker type to want to help everyone around you, but it’s also okay to be a bit selfish and think about just yourself for a few. There are so many people out there who don’t care about how exhausted you are, or any of your excuses… they just want their results from you; as they should. But, you have to find time to make yourself happy too. Take that nap in the middle of the day when you can. Take that extra yoga class… do something that brings you joy. You will be amazed how your life turns around when you just focus on something positive for yourself!

It's time for my final Pride Playlist, and this week I am doing nothing but giving you some FEEL GOOD GET READY MUSIC! It's the playlist where you blast it, annoy the neighbors and get ready for the last few pride parties of the month! Some relationships inspire me… to be single

www.peachatl.com

After a few rough weeks, Mercury will be working in your favor Cancer! It is your time to rest and recover from the rough few weeks that you have been having. Make sure that you take the time to really reset and focus on just yourself. Others may try and deter you, but be steadfast!

Your social circle was damaged recently, Leo. Now is the time for you to make amends and make sure that those friends you might have aliendated recently actually know how much you care about them. Express your love for your friends and they'll recognize this version of you.

It's goal season, Virgo. The only way for you to achieve your goals this week and moving forward is making sure that your public image is strong for those who believe in you. There might be some extra creative energy there as well... harness that and move into a new mindset.

You've been foggy in Mercury retrograde, Libra. That is not like you. You havent been able to really see the happiness that you bring people around you. It is time to clear that fog and see the joy that you bring people. Allow yourself to plan a trip or learn something new too. With clarity comes rejuvenation

It's time to put yourself out there romantically again, Scorpio. Your communication is strong in the coming weeks and it is time for you to be clear about what you want from those you're interested in. If you use your words clearly and with intention then you mihgt form some new and strong relationships.

It's time for you to reach an agreement with those you have been fighting with, Sag. You have held a grudge over a petty little argument for some time and with Mercury going into your partnership zone this week, you have the chance to restore that relationship. Take the time to sit down and come to an agreement.

It's time to get the job done, Cap. After feeling at your worst for some time now, you have finally gotten the "gusto" to start re-pursuing your interests. These do not have to be people, but they can be activities that you enjoyed for a while and lost touch with. It is your time to take ownership of your time and energy. Focus. Let your mind run free, Aquarius! Your creative rut is about to be over so prepare for nothing but good vibes and positive outlooks on the tasks at hand. Things that bring you joy will be elevated this week and moving into Summer. And even though you might want to take some personal time, be free again and meet some new people. You're going to get that reward you have been waiting for, Pisces. Don't worry... your hard work is not going unnoticed. You have to understand the complexities of the universe and energy to truly accept that you had nothing to do with how long this has taken. Just breathe and trust the universe this week Pisces.

Use logic and rational thinking this week, Aries! You have been working on some projects long term and you can finally finish them this week! Your mind is clear and you have some good energy this week. Allow the energy to fill your whole body and energize you for the task at hand! You've been struggling with finances Taurus, but not for much longer. You may not win the lottery, but something is going to level out. It has to! There is only one direction to go from here and that is UP! Get yourself ready for the success that is about to come to you.

Feels good to be back to your normal self again, right Gemini? You havent felt like yourself and you have been scared if you would everget back into that headspace... well not to worry darling! Here you are. Take a deep breath and prepare to revitalize yourself back into some sense of normalcy!
