The reigning ‘Drag Race’ queen has dirty jokes for days in her first-ever comedy special

Are Alaska Thunderfuck’s filthy jokes about Jeffrey Epstein, “genderfluids,” labia and poop too much for our world on fire? Alaska, even though she has a song called “Anus,” thought maybe they were. She wasn’t sure if an assault joke in 2021 would fly.

So the winner of “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” Season 2 consulted comedy queens Jackie Beat, Sherry Vine and Margaret Cho (no stranger to bowel jokes herself) to see if she was out of her damn mind. They didn’t exactly say she wasn’t, but they also did give Alaska just enough confidence to release “The Alaska Thunderfuck Extra Special Comedy Special,” her premiere stand-up gig. The special is airing now on OUTtv, the first LGBTQ+ Apple TV channel available on the Apple TV app.

In late March, Thunderfuck appeared on Zoom against a palm-leaf-patterned backdrop — “one of the many walls in my giant palatial mansion,” she joked. Just like in her comedy special, nothing was off limits: not how some of her jokes fell flat, not what she thinks of the entry rules on “Drag Race,” and definitely not how she’d “walk the fuck out” of a hypothetical winners’ edition of “All Stars” if they, God forbid, did it teams-style.

You being extra — that’s not a stretch.

Are we looking at a giant palm leaf sheet in the background? What exactly is that?

Well, why don’t you tell your [readers] that it is just one of the many walls in my giant palatial mansion? It’s expensive wallpaper. It may appear to be a duvet cover barely pinned to the ceiling, barely covering the mess of fucking drag behind it, but don’t let your eyes deceive you. It is just one of the many huge walls in my mansion.

Were you a funny kid?

I mean, my family has a fucking amazing sense of humor and they’re so funny. My mom is so hilarious. My dad was really funny. My uncles are the stupidest, funniest people ever. Humor was always going around and happening in my family. But I was never a funny kid because I was too shy and too scared of people. I was like, I’m gay and I’m weird and I just wanna hide in my room.

I feel like with this comedy special, you keep just checking boxes. Drag queen, comedy Was comedy a defense mechanism for you like queen. What can’t Alaska do? it is for a lot of gay kids?

I can’t do math really good. So I have an amazing accountant. And I also don’t know how to use TikTok. I cannot figure it out. My 10-year-old niece is really good at it; she can. I thought I would try and show my variety and try to do comedy. I know I’ve always been just a look queen and a glamour girl. So this is a huge step for me to try and tell jokes.

See, for me, it never got to that point. My defense mechanism was not being seen. I just tried to disappear. I tried to be a gecko and change to the color of the wall. That was my defense mechanism. [Laughs.]

How are you feeling now that this special has been released into the world?

Has a career in drag prepared you for a career I feel great about it now. [Laughs.] It’s been 87 years since we filmed this. It’s been so long, in comedy? and it’s not an understatement to say the entire I mean, I don’t know. It was hard, and I was really world has changed so much. I also wonder if it’s taken too long to get to where “Drag Race” has gotten. We’re on season 13, and while it’s great that the first trans contestant is a part of the show, do you think that there are too many rules on the show in general?

Well, OK: I love the fucking show and a lot of people do and it’s changed culture and it’s changed the world. But they do have rules to entry, and if it were up to me, I would blow the walls off and I would say let’s have everyone apply and see what that looks like. Do I think that’s going to happen? Probably not anytime soon. But it is hopeful to see the people who put on “Drag Race” are very aware of culture and they are always actively changing the show and keeping it fresh and keeping it current. That makes me hopeful.

If they try to pull that shit, I would leave. I would pull a Ginny Lemon and walk the fuck out because we’re not doing that team shit. No, that’s trash. They absolutely couldn’t do it. And if I had to be on a team, I would want to be on Bob’s team because Bob is so fucking funny. We work really well together. And Bob knows everything about “Drag Race.” Like, I thought I knew shit about “Drag Race.” Bob knows the most about “Drag Race.”

What’s next for you? Might you record another album at some point?

Um, maybe.

7 HiGH-AND-LOW WAYS TO SPEND 7 DAYS iN ANCHORAGE, ALASKA

I recently returned from a weeklong trip of a lifetime to Anchorage, Alaska for my 40th birthday, and considering that the riotous Alaska Thunderfuck is this week’s cover story, what better time than now to tell you all about it? Synergy, folx.

If the Last Frontier is on your travel bucket list – and it should be – here are seven incredible things to do in Anchorage that’ll convince you to move it straight to the top.

1. Cruise Kenai National Park

Fjords

If you’re a wildlife and/or national park enthusiast like I am, you’ll get the best of both worlds when you book the Kenai Fjords National Park cruise with Kenai Fjords Tours. The dock is about two-and-a-half hours south of Anchorage in a small port town called Seward, and the drive is nothing short of breathtaking. Glistening lakes and snow-covered mountains sit just outside your window nearly the entire length of the drive, and that’s just the beginning of the beauty.

Once aboard the six-hour cruise – which costs a very reasonable $164 – you’ll head out into

Resurrection Bay to search for humpback whales, orca, sea lions, sea otters, black bears, and puffins. All of that wildlife (and more) came out to play on my excursion. Another highlight was the three glaciers along the route, one of which was actively depositing small breakaway ’bergs into the ocean – a sight to behold. Nature was quite generous that day.

In hindsight, this cruise was a highpoint of my vacation and a unique, relaxing way to see one of America’s most scenic national parks.

2. Sip local beers at the city’s many breweries I enjoy many of life’s pleasures regularly – I mean, what’re we all here for? – and one of those joys is sipping local microbrews while supporting small businesses. Anchorage is replete with breweries, and some of the ones I visited after a half-day of sightseeing included the 49th Street Brewing Company in the heart of downtown, King Street Brewing Company, and Midnight Sun Brewing Co., the latter of which serves up a comforting, tasty ancho beef dip that I highly and

personally recommend.

I’m currently trying to recreate the recipe in my own kitchen. You know a dish hit all the spots when you can’t stop thinking about it.

3. Have some fun at the downtown gay bars There are two bars downtown that locals consider “queer” – the Raven and Mad Myrna’s. The Raven is a typical dive-ish watering hole that attracts regulars. Nice outdoor patio, jukebox, a few games inside, and plenty of pleasant folks to chat up at the bar. While it was never “busy” the three times I popped in – once on a Saturday night – it was just busy enough for me to enjoy a couple drinks and play the lottery-endorsed pull-tab game that netted me $42 in winnings. Paid for my beers at least.

The newly renovated Myrna’s is the goto drag show in town (and the only one), even if the clientele skews a bit straight as of late. There were queer folx there, but majority hetero. Hot ones though, so that’s a plus. And maybe I’m a cynic, but I didn’t expect the quality of show I saw on my visit. It was good. Very good, in fact, and more than worth the $5 standing-room cover charge. For a higher fee you can snag a table with advance reservations, but you’ll see all the same action up close and personal for your single Lincoln.

kind keepsake souvenirs that will give me a lifetime of pleasure. There’s a long list of stores to make a day out of in Anchorage, including Ozarks Americana, Lazy Dog Antiques and Collectibles, The Pack Rat Antiques, and Rusty Raven Antiques, the last of which is where I picked up a half-century old leather bolo tie featuring a hand-carved ivory polar bear slide and silver tips that I haggled down to $50 from $65, a complete steal in my opinion.

6. Bike the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail I was five days into my trip when I rented a bicycle from Pablo’s to travel the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, which extends 11 miles from downtown to the Ted Stevens International Airport. For that reason, I opted not to keep the bike for a full day but rather just three hours. That gave me plenty of time to go four-and-a-half miles in, just past Earthquake Park, an informational memorial about the devastating four-minute, 9.2-magnitude quake that drastically changed the coastal Alaskan landscape in 1964. After returning to downtown, I dove face first into breakfast at Snow City Café (conveniently located right next to the bike rental joint), where I ordered a Raspberry Dream white hot chocolate (with whip – ’cause I ain’t no skimp) and the Country Benedict with sausage patties topped with poached eggs on a split buttermilk biscuit covered in sausage gravy. That’s what you’ll order too if you know what’s good for you.

4. Charter a float plane to Denali 7. By Jamie Kirk Lately we’ve spent so much time, energy and effort on disagreeing that we haven’t focused on what’s going on in this world that we fundamentally agree on.

It’s easy to get caught up in what we see in our social media news feeds, what’s being promoted and by whom on Instagram, or which media outlet is truly fair and balanced. There’s so much that divides us.

But on Memorial Day the focus should be two-fold: It’s the unofficial start of summer and it’s also a day of appreciation for those that fought and lost their lives for our American freedoms.

Memorial Day should be more than just one day, because it is likely those that gave their lives for our freedoms suffered more than one day. Beautiful weather and backyard barbecues, I challenge us all to take a minute and think about how we are more alike than different this Memorial Day. We are all decent human beings that appreciate our freedoms and all that it represents, including our freedom of speech. We owe this privilege to our fellow Americans, many of who have paid the ultimate price.

Those sacrifices will not ever be forgotten.

As we focus on all the glory that summer brings, the start of summer is a bit hard to swallow for many. The first holiday of summer brings with it an avoidable truth that not everyone is pleased to “celebrate” this occasion. WELL: there's an issue plaguing our community currently, and it is the cockiness of the "Dom Top" who has no idea what it takes to be on the receiving end. A true DOM will understand the needs of his partner and honor and respect those as well.

While we all have our sexual preferences, the idea that a top can just continue to please HIMSELF while their partner is in visible pain borders on the edge of completely inappropriate and troubling. I understand that both partners need to gain some sense of satisfaction in a sexual realtionship but be open with your partner about what It truly means when you are in pain. He should be understanding... and if not, well then... there is your answer.

But this week we are taking a look at some influential contributors to the rich history of Asian American & Pacific Islander history in the US. Duke Kahanmoku, Actor & Olympian

Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1890, Kahanamoku was a five-time Olympic medalist in swimming. He competed in the 1912 Olympics in Stockholm, 1920 in Antwerp, and 1924 in Paris. Kahanamoku also was an alternate for the U.S. water polo team at the 1932 Olympics in Los Angeles. Nicknamed "The Big Kahuna", he worked as an actor helping to make surfing more popular as well. .

Kalpana Chawla | Astronaut & Engineer

Born in East Punjab in 1962, Chawla was the first woman of Indian descent to go into space aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia. Unfortunately, Chawla was one of the seven crew members lost in the disaster in 2003 but is regaded as a National Hero in her native India.

Various streets, institutions and organizations hold her name in honor of her contributions.

She was awarded the Congressional Space Medal of Honor.

Yo-Yo Ma | Classical Musician

A child prodigy who startd performing at the age of four, Yo-Yo Ma was born in Paris, France and raised in New York City. The child of classically trained musicians of Chinese descent, he went on to graduate from the Juilliard School and Harvard University. He has performed as a soloist and with orchestras around the world, recording more than 90 albums and receiving 18 Grammys. After receiving numerous awards, he is named one of the most influential classical musicians of the modern age.

Rising to prominence in 2012, Nora Lum known professionally as Awkwafina has released numerous songs early on in her career which gained popularity after she was fired at her job for her song, "My Vag" after her employer recognized her in the video. She has appeared in numerous shows on streaming services as well as cable television, various movies and earned the Golden Globe for Best Actress-Motion Picture or Musical for The Farewell, directed

by Lulu Wang. Awkwafina continuously advocates for the need for more female directors as well as being against the stereotyping of Asian actors in the media.

George Takei | Actor, Author, Activist

Quite possibly most well known for his role on Star Trek as Sulu, Japanese-American actor George Takei has won numerous awards for his LGBTQ+ activism. He is active in local and state politics in his home state of California, and has won accolades for his work on human rights and Japan-US relations. Takei has become a household name as his Facebook has reached over 10 million followers since having joined, and he has warmed the hearts of many with his signature catch phrase, "Oh my!"
