First World War collection
Highlights from the Museum's collection of First World War material, digitised as part of a Heritage Lottery Fund project in 2014. During the conflict the Order of St John established the St John Ambulance Brigade Hospital at Étaples in northern France. This collection includes weekly reports documenting the hospital's work, as well as a more personal record, a scrapbook created by Veronica Nisbet, a Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD) nurse who served at Étaples. The Roll of Honour lists the names of the 1,077 members of the Order of St John, volunteers of the St John Ambulance Brigade and members of the Territorial Branch of the St John Ambulance Association, who lost their lives during the First World War.
