The bowling fraternity turns its head towards Queensland's Moreton Bay region once more as the Bowls Premier League (BPL) returns to its spiritual home of Club Pine Rivers for what is set to be an action-packed BPL22.
In the third instalment of the event within this twelve team era, fans can expect even more fireworks with a plethora of debutants and returning faces set to light the greens up in one of the closest tournaments in BPL history.
The Gold Coast Hawks will have the biggest target on their back after taking out BPL21 in February and with an unchanged lineup of Kelsey Cottrell, Nathan Rice and reigning Grand Final MVP Nick Brett, the team will be striving to keep their hands on the trophy under the guidance of Mark Thatcher.
It will be an interesting task for the Hawks, who went from last to first in Moama having endured a trying tournament at Pine Rivers in 2024, something they franchise will desperately look to rectify.
After dominating the home and away rounds in February by winning a ginormous 18 matches, the Geelong Jets were usurped at the final hurdle by the Hawks and the star-studded lineup of BPL21 MVP Paul Foster MBE, BPL11 MVP and four-time All Star Aaron Wilson and Jamie-Lee Worsnop will be out for revenge with coach Matt Flapper set to bring the best out of his troops once more.
Having won two of the franchise's three titles at Pine Rivers, Jeremy Henry's Melbourne Pulse are going to be confident when they stride onto the greens with a lineup of Ellen Fife, BPL19 MVP Gary Kelly and Barrie Lester.
The trio are one of the most consistent lineups in the event, playing as a team in all barring one event since BPL12.
Speaking of consistency, the Adelaide Pioneers have finished in fourth place at
BPL22
each of the past four BPLs with a heavy determination to go better than that come October.
Two-time MVP Scott Thulborn returns as do his long-time teammate in Wayne Ruediger and New Zealand Blackjack Katelyn Inch under the watchful eye of debutant coach Dan Flanagan.
Last year's event at Pine Rivers saw the Tweed Ospreys go one clear of the chasing pack with their unprecedented fifth title, and the juggernaut will look to extend that dominance into another event.
Like the Pulse, the Ospreys boast an ultra consistent lineup headed by coach Wayne Turley OAM, with six-time winner and three-time MVP Aaron Teys, five-time champion and BPL16 MVP Corey Wedlock and five-time conqueror Chloe Stewart roaring and ready to go for another tilt at glory.
After missing the finals on net sets in February, the Sydney Lions will look to return to the promised land and equal the Ospreys' tally of five championships with Steve Glasson OAM set to lead the charge from the coaches box once again.
Four-time champion Karen Murphy AM returns, as does BPL20 MVP Nathan Black with Right at Home Jackaroo Kane Nelson a handy inclusion after his debut with the Moama Steamers in February.
The Steamers will bring in former Jackaroo Matthew Baus for his tournament debut to partner six-time MVP and five-time champion Aron Sherriff and BPL17 champion Cass Millerick under the leadership of Kevin Anderson as the franchise looks to improve on a trying campaign in February.
Like the Lions, the Melbourne eXtreme were desperately unlucky to miss the BPL21 finals, falling out of the top five on net sets, but with Nick Cahill and Jack McShane already having played an event together, as well as the inclusion of Jackaroo and debutant Brianna Smith, the Club Sunbury franchise will be striving to get back into contention for a place on the coveted Friday night.
Led by Kelvin Kerkow OAM, the team has
already featured in two BPL Grand Finals at BPL15 and BPL18, both at Pine Rivers, which will no doubt bode well for the squad's confidence.
The Sydney Saints finished three wins off the eXtreme on the Murray but will look to replicate the form of the franchise's debut event in Queensland a year ago that saw two-time All Star Dawn Hayman, three-time champion and BPL14 All Star Ben Twist and English international Jamie Walker storm to third place.
The trio will be back in action under coach Gerard Beath with a strong determination to be in the hunt when the finals commence.
It is a new look home franchise as the Moreton Bay Pirates enter with APL03 champion Ali Forsyth as the team's coach to lead the squad of two-time champion and MVP Alex Marshall MBE, New Zealand Blackjack Selina Goddard and Clup Pine Rivers' very own Ryan Burnett.
Bizarrely, the franchise has missed three of the past four finals series and will be striving to not suffer the same fate once more as they look to storm back up the table.
A team that will also relish the opportunity to storm back up the table is the Perth Suns, who have not progressed to the finals since BPL12.
Kristina Van Nierop and Carl Healey return in Bill Brandsma's lineup, with Western Australia's Ben Leggett set to make his tournament debut for the Bowls WA franchise.
After suffering heartbreak at Pine Rivers a year ago, the Tasmania Tridents will be out for redemption with Chris Dudman leading the team of two-time All Star Rebecca Van Asch, foundation player Taelyn Male and former Melbourne Roys player Dylan Fisher. Fisher, a foundation BPL player in 2013, will break the record held by Brett Wilkie for the longest gap between appearances at the tournament having not taken part since BPL05 in New Zealand.
The Bowls Premier League always throws in a variety of surprises and with this superb field, BPL22 is set to be no different.

The eXtreme were mightily unlucky to miss the finals in February, winning more matches than they lost but falling out of the top five on net sets.
Nick Cahill and Jack McShane were instrumental across both the lead and skip positions on the Murray and seemed to click immediately, that partnership will only be enhanced with more matches together.
Making her debut will be Jackaroo Brianna Smith, who brings a wealth of experience across both national and international level, as well as a plethora of skills that could prove pivotal as the team looks to reach the finals once more.
The squad boasts a youthful exuberance that others may not be able to rival, with an insane knack of producing clutch bowls under enormous pressure. Watch out for the eXtreme if they get going. #BPL22 FAST FACTS

The Suns are a foundation team of the BPL and with the license held by Bowls WA, the team has long been representative of the entire state of Western Australia.
Opting to return to a non-fully “local” home-grown WA team, the Suns are ready to hunt a maiden trophy and will provide plenty of parochial fanfare and colour to the BPL.
It was heartbreak for Steve Glasson’s Sydney Lions in February, missing the finals on net sets after an up and down campaign.
Former MVP Nathan Black produced an iconic tournament a year ago at Pine Rivers and he will be striving to replicate that success as he chases his maiden BPL title
Karen Murphy remains a lock in this famous franchise, being a part of all four titles it has won, while the in-form Kane Nelson makes his way into the team after his debut with the Steamers eight months ago
All of the squad are unflappable in high pressure situations, which makes for an intriguing proposition for the rest of the competition.

Tasmania long wanted to be part of the BPL competition; the provision of a pathway for bowlers in the state to progress their bowls and aspire for greater rewards has been limited in the past; the BPL now provides that vehicle for which Tasmanian players can now showcase the tremendous talent from within their state.

TEAM BACKGROUND
The Tweed Ospreys entered the BPL for the first time at the BPL10 event in November 2019 at Club Pine Rivers and left the Brisbane-based club with the title. Led by experienced BPL star Aaron Teys, the Ospreys were the standout at BPL10, both on the green and off it, with sky blue supporter wear littered among the stands. The Ospreys amassed three titles from their first four events.
Club Tweed, the mega NSW/QLD border club, is a familiar venue to the Australian bowling fraternity, as the home of the prestigious Australian Indoor Championships and Golden Nugget events.
