ational Bourbon Day, celebrated annually on June 14th, honors America's native spirit. Bourbon aficionados come together to indulge in this rich, amber liquid and appreciate its complex flavors. I’m sure many of you are aware there are plenty of celebrities who have created their own bourbons. I’m always curious what talented musicians choose for their favorite spirits. So, here’s a quick summary of some of my top picks.

John Petrucci's bourbon Rock The Barrel offers a bold, robust flavor with hints of oak and caramel a true rockstar's drink. A perfect cocktail featuring Petrucci's bourbon is the "Rock n' Bourbon Smash," a blend of bourbon, muddled mint, lemon juice, and a splash of club soda, garnished with a sprig of mint.

Bob Dylan's Heaven's Door is smooth and sophisticated, with subtle notes of fruit and spice. The bourbon's mellow sweetness and complex layers make it a delight to sip neat or in a classic Old Fashioned.

Willie Nelson's Old Whiskey River is a mellow and approachable bourbon, embodying the spirit of country music. Its flavor profile includes notes of honey, vanilla, and a gentle smokiness, making it ideal for a relaxing evening on the porch.

Brad Paisley's bourbon surprises with a sweet, smoky finish, perfect for those who enjoy a touch of mystery in their drink. The layers of caramel and charred oak create a memorable drinking experience that pairs well with a hearty BBQ.

Celebrate National Bourbon Day at your favorite casino. Make sure to ask your favorite bartender or cocktail server for the National Bourbon Drink of the day and savor the unique flavors each has to offer. Cheers to the spirit of America! Plus, celebrate Flag Day, the Army’s Birthday, World Blood Donor Day and Global Wellness Day all on June 14.

Have Fun & Good Luck!

PLAYERS TALK

READERS GET SPECIFIC Hotel Rooms & Tech, Our Casino Directory, Plus Max Volume Wins!

Q: Since we have to use our key cards to activate the elevators, why can’t the casino program the elevator to automatically take me to my floor? Why have me activate and press a button?

Anonymous Casino Hotel Guests Las Vegas, Nevada

A: I thought this was a great question I encountered while visiting Las Vegas recently. I didn’t ask for names, but the friendly older couple did raise a valid point. We are, supposedly, living in the age of tech! Why doesn’t this work? I think the issue for this couple was, since the elevator already had to be unlocked, why not take the functionality to its logical conclusion?

Great idea! Obviously casino management will have to talk to the hotel key card company who in turn has to talk to the elevator company. I’m sure each business will first have to involve multiple levels of management, innumerable meetings, and then agree on a time-table after assessing how this will make everyone money. After that is achieved, which sounds impossible, we, the customer (remember us?) will wait for the “update” to happen. Someday. In the distant future.

Maybe in a brand-new casino resort with all the latest tech we’ll be so lucky as to simply wave our smartphones near the “transport tube” which will then whoosh us to our room. And only our room. And not allow us to visit the room of our friend, relative, business colleague. And pigs WILL fly! One day

Q: As you list Casino Del Sol Marketplace could you add Najavo Blue Travel Plaza in Flagstaff as they have slots?

wnlbrooks email

A: We choose to list individual gaming locations as reported by the Arizona Department of Gaming (ADG). You can find their monthly reports at Gaming.AZ.gov. As ADG does not list the Navajo Blue Travel Plaza as a separate gaming location, we do not either. By the way, we don’t list illegal gaming operations also (brick & mortar or digital/ online)!

Why? Sol Marketplace consists of several Class II gaming devices. Technically, those are bingo games not subject to the Tribal-State Gaming Compacts regulating Class III gaming devices. Navajo Blue Travel Plaza gaming area has Class III gaming devices in it as ADG does not list Twin Arrows as having Class II units within their facility. And because we’ve checked, in person.

Most likely, based on the business objectives, along with agreements between ADG and the individual Tribes involved, a separate gaming location was or was not desired or required. What that means is the Navajo Blue Travel Plaza is actually a part of Twin Arrows Navajo Casino. In the case of Sol Marketplace it’s separate from Casino Del Sol.

Just to briefly clarify the difference between Class II and Class III gaming devices, it’s all about how outcomes are determined. With Class II

(think Bingo) slots, a huge set of outcomes (wins and losses) are randomly grabbed by the group of slots connected to the main server. Once the outcomes are exhausted, a new set is generated and the “Bingo game” starts again. Proceeds from Class II games are not taxed by the State of Arizona!

With Class III slots, each gaming device uses its own random number generator (RNG) to determine wins and losses. This RNG is constantly working, waiting for the player to press the “Spin” button at which moment the software grabs a random number which is then used to determine the outcome of the spin. During the next spin, the process repeats itself. Each spin is independent. There is no “pool” of outcomes which eventually are all used up as with a Class II setup.

This explanation is a bit of an oversimplification but hopefully helps inform a little about Class II and Class III gaming. FYI, changes to our “Casino Directory” section are planned for this year. Stay tuned.

Q: Hi! Just read the May issue. In regards to the high volume of slots, I see many people turn up the volume. Two people recently told me that the slot machines pay better when the volume is turned up! One person heard it somewhere and the other saw it on YouTube. What’s with this nonsense?

Elke Oldenburg email

NO! WRONG! FALSE! LIES! FAKE NEWS! Anyone who tries to tell you that activating maximum volume on a slot will make you a winner is an UNINFORMED IDIOT who is also trying to dupe you and make the casino experience MISERABLE for the rest of us!

How about this? What is the correct decibel level in order to win? What about the simple fact that slots have different volumes? What about the slots that don’t have sound anymore? What about the slots that won’t let you change the volume? What about slots whose volume is set by the casino (low, medium, high) and then can be adjusted from that setting by players? How does all of that fit in with this “Max Volume” strategy to win?

To all our readers: Stop watching slot videos and giving “content creators” an ego boost along with money they don’t deserve for being misleading, spreading false gambling strategies, encouraging problem gambling behavior, advertising for illegal casinos, promoting underage gambling, breaking copyrights, disclosing intellectual property, breaking casino rules, violating privacy laws and more.

99% of what we’ve seen in casino/slot/advice videos is 1,000% WRONG! The volume control has no effect on the outcome of any spin! EVER! This is backed up by gaming regulations all over the world! $

Powerball Power Play

nother scoop on our part! We had the opportunity to play this game shortly before it launched on casino floors across the country. Now that it’s just a short drive away, be sure to check out Powerball Power Play by Everi at Quechan Casino Resort.

This game is fun for lottery enthusiasts and slot players alike because Everi brings the iconic lottery game, Powerball, to the world of slots with Powerball Power Play

The game Island Rising (Sunset Shore & Twilight Shore) by slot machine manufacturer L&W is a game you can avoid at all costs. And for those of you who are thinking we are basing this review on a one-off play session, we aren’t. Seven $100 sessions at the minimum bet on pennies (80 credits) and we cannot under any circumstance recommend our readers play this game. If you do miraculously get a win on this slot which puts your credit meter at or above your initial stake, to quote a very famous movie which recently celebrated its 50 year anniversary, “Run Away! Run Away! Run Away!”

REEL RESULT:

Now let’s look under the hood as to why everyone should “Run Away!” from this sorry excuse for a slot machine. The pay table. What a joke. It’s pictured to the left and you can verify it on your own at unnamed casinos across the state and the country. The highest five symbol base game win has an associated pay of 150 credits. That’s just under half of your wager. Regardless of your bet. Even in the highly unlikely event you cover the screen with all of the top symbols you can only be paid less than 100 times bet. And that’s the top base game win! Which may not even be possible to achieve. So, an entire screen of the main character won’t pay me back my initial $100 bankroll at the minimum bet in pennies.

t get me started about the bonus we never saw across all our play sessions! Actually, I’m not sure why the giant “tiki above the reels kept hopping up and down aggressively as if they wanted to pick a fight with me? They are so mad and angry looking! Fire! Angry faces! Jumping! Loud! Distracting! The experience on the game pissed us off, every time. Why would the graphics add to that feeling?

The manufacturer provides the following info about the game on their website: 5 Reels, 50 Lines, 800 Credits Max Bet. Taking the market trending three pot mechanic to our top performing dual screen cabinet. Brought over to land based from social testing for a quality gaming experience. Features a Super Spins, Dual Spins, and More Spins feature that can all be won in a single spin. Sounds great, but the words “social testing” immediately make me suspect the testing or the “brought over” is flawed.

The “three pot mechanic” on this slot isn’t worth the wait! On one of our last Reel Reviews which has a similar “three pot mechanic” (Aristocrat’s Mo’ Mummy two thumbs up by the way) we nicely said to bring a big bankroll or don’t bother playing. But, that slot has potential! You can feel it in the base game and in the bonus games, which can actually be triggered.

Can you win on this game? Maybe. We didn’t! We definitely do not see even the smallest glimmer of hope for the potential to win. But that doesn’t mean you can’t! Even a crap game with a big house hold (say 14%) at a minimum bet in pennies will pay jackpots, taxable, wins above your bankroll, etc. That doesn’t make this game enjoyable to play in the long or short run.

“Run Away! Run Away! Run Away!” $

NEW MEGA MILLIONS® GAME DELIVERS 300% INCREASE IN NON JACKPOT PRIZES IN FIRST MONTH SINCE LAUNCH!

Since the new version of Mega Millions held its first drawing on April 8, players have continued to win big and the game has continued to deliver on its expectations that the game enhancements would benefit players. In the nine Mega Millions drawings over the course of the first month since launch:

1.89 million players won $51.3 mil. in non-jackpot prizes. That’s a 308% increase from the $12.5 mil. those prizes would have been valued at in the old game. $18.8 mil. in prizes have been won by players matching ONLY the Mega Ball. That’s more money awarded for the ninth prize tier alone in the new game than the $12.5 mil. that would have been awarded across ALL non-jackpot prize tiers in the old game matrix.

More than 587,000 players have won the minimum prize for a winning ticket, $10 ($5 base prize with 2X multiplier), collecting $5.87 mil. in prizes. The winnings at just that $10 prize level not including the 3X ($15), 4X ($20), 5X ($25) and 10X ($50) prize winners who also matched just the Mega Ball are more than double the $2.5 mil. that would have been won by ALL the 1.25 mil. winners who each would have won just $2 in the old game.

Nearly 60,000 winners at the 10X multiplier level have won more than $3.8 mil. across the various prize tiers. The 10X multiplier level was introduced with the new Mega Millions on April 8. In the previous version of the game, players could pay $1 extra to add a non-jackpot multiplier to their play that maxed out at 5X. Prizes at every non-jackpot level are paying out at a combined 2.6X to 7.5X the value they would have under the old game matrix, meaning prizes being awarded at every level are outpacing the game’s price adjustment.

"The Cash Explosion brand is beloved by our players," said Alec Thomson, Executive Director of the Arizona Lottery. "This game may be our most popular yet. We love hearing how our players celebrate these opportunities to Love the Play, create unforgettable memories, and, of course, win big."

Stay tuned to the Arizona Lottery Players Club for announcements! Visit any Arizona Lottery retailer to purchase your ticket today, and remember to enter both winning and non-winning tickets at AZPlayersClub.com for additional chances to win. You can visit ArizonaLottery.com to see all remaining Scratchers prizes and find a retailer near you. $

Must be 21 or older to purchase or redeem tickets. Overall odds vary by game. All sales are final. Scratchers® is a registered service mark of the California Lottery. Cash Explosion is a trademark of the Ohio Lottery. Other Trademarks and Intellectual Property are the property of their respective owners. Gambling problem? Five people have become millionaires by matching the five white balls during a drawing. Three of them won $2 mil., one won $3 mil. and another won $4 mil. Winners bought tickets in Michigan, New York (2), Virginia and Washington. The first jackpot under the new matrix was won just four drawings into the new game. On April 18, a $112 mil. jackpot was won on a ticket sold in Ohio. Under the new game rules, the jackpot was reset to $50 mil. and quickly increases.

“It’s exciting to see how players are reacting to the new game, especially when they win,” said Joshua Johnston, Lead Director of the Mega Millions Consortium. “The more they see their winnings multiply, the more they’re understanding the value of the new game and why we made the changes we did.”

Compared to the old game, the new Mega Millions features bigger prizes at every non-jackpot prize tier, improved odds to win the jackpot, better odds overall, a larger starting jackpot, faster-growing jackpots, and no break-even prizes. Prizes in the new game range from $10 to $10 mil. vs. the $2 to $1 mil. in the old game.

With higher value prizes embedded throughout every tier of the game, tickets for the new Mega Millions game now cost $5 per play. This is only the game’s second price adjustment since the first ticket was sold more than 20 years ago. Since Mega Millions launched in 2002, it has produced seven winners of billion-dollar jackpots, all in different states. Since the last game change in 2017 more than 1,200 players have become millionaires, an average of three millionaires per week.

Mega Millions is a national game with tickets sold in 45 states, Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings are conducted at 11 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesdays and Fridays in Atlanta, Georgia. Visit their website at MegaMillions.com for more information. $

SOUND & UNSOUND GAMBLING ADVICE

Luck Isn’t Fair. Probability Is.

I

have researched and disseminated gaming ideas since I first learned that blackjack could be beaten with card-counting systems. Most of my advice has been to the point, but not all has been easy to learn, implement, or profit from. Some of it hasn’t been scientific or proven mathematically, such as my emphasis on pushing winning streaks to the max.

However, in my case and my case alone, I’ve found that I’m more confident during winning streaks, which often throws my poker opponents a curveball since they can’t read me very well. My results can’t be proven mathematically in a scientific setting, but my record-keeping results prove my point.

Still, I can’t say which came first, the chicken or the egg. Did I play better and win more, or did I play happily and confuse my opponents? But does it matter?

I’m not sure, but here are a series of examples that may save you money, whether they can be proven or not.

DON’T THROW GOOD MONEY AFTER BAD

There’s no clarity with this statement. If you haven’t learned that doing the same thing over and over is a definition of insanity, it may or may not stop you from tossing $100 bills into the Grand Canyon and expecting a profit. But there's a flip side.

If you lose money playing poker every night, you might want to stop playing until you read some books on the subject and adjust your play. However, if you are in a hand that can improve after the flop and get the right pot odds, calling a bet isn’t throwing good chips after bad. Luck isn’t fair. Probability is.

PLAY OUTSIDE BETS ONLY IN ROULETTE

Again, context. Yes, you’ll win a bet more often with outside bets like Odd/Even and Red/Black because they offer just a 1/1 payoff. But I’ve read that you should play them because they have better odds than wagers on individual numbers. That’s not true.

The house edge on Arizona roulette tables with a zero and double zero slot is 5.26% overall, and it doesn’t matter whether you bet outside wagers or individual numbers. Just skip the Top Line wager of 0, 00, 1, 2, 3, which is 50% worse.

If your bankroll is tight, you might avoid straight-up number wagers because they won’t hit as often, but the house odds are still the same.

DON’T TRY TO MAKE UP FOR LOSSES

This is also known as chasing your money. I’m all for quitting or taking a break when things are going bad. But I usually put that on my positive or negative frame of mind. I play in lots of rebuys and add-on poker tournaments. I’ve often made the final table when I got strong hands beaten, lost my buy-in, and rebought. Yes, I was hoping to make up for my earlier loss. If my mood had turned sour, I’d quit. If the tournament or game is still good, I rebuy.

The saying, “If you’re on a losing streak, take a break,” is very similar. Let your bankroll and your mental state be your guide.

The psychology of gambling is a powerful force on my tiny little mind. Use yours to the fullest by amplifying your gaming only when you’re in a good mood! $

TABLE GAMES

GAMBLER’S FALLACY

Trust Me, It’s Due...

The gambler’s fallacy is the belief that an event that hasn't occurred recently becomes more likely to occur. For example, there are those players that firmly believe if black has come up six times in a row on a roulette wheel that red absolutely has to come up on the next spin. The problem with that line of thinking is that previous results have no effect on future results. Unfortunately, gambling systems that players come up with are all based on this flawed premise.

There has never been a betting system devised that can mathematically overcome the house advantage on any casino game, in fact they can't even make a dent in it. The bottom line is that dice, a roulette wheel, cards and slots have no memory. Each toss of the dice, every spin of the roulette wheel and a slot machine is independent of all past events. The longer you play, the closer you will get to the expected outcome for that particular game, an overall loss.

The biggest gambling myth is that an event that has not occurred recently is overdue and thus is more likely to come up. This is the basis for most of the betting and playing systems that you hear from fellow players, read about in print and especially on the internet and social media making wild claims. What’s great about the claim is that it’s a self fulfilling prophecy if, by pure chance, the desired outcome hits! However, long run, the proof is not in the pudding. And no, that's not a claim, that’s just math.

The system that I get asked about the most is the Martindale System. This is a system where the player doubles their bet after losing. For example, if you bet $1 and lose, your next bet is $2. Then, if you lose that wager, your next bet is $4. If you lose again, bet $8. If you lose yet again, double that bet to $16, and so on. The idea behind this system is that by doubling your bet after a loss you would eventually win enough to cover all past losses plus a unit.

The problem with this system is that it is easier than you think to lose a lot of bets in a row and quickly run out of betting money or reach the table maximum. Then what? Gambling advice in print and especially on the internet are full of people selling betting systems with the promise of huge wins over the casino at games of chance. These salesmen are the modern-day equiva-

lent of the snake oil salesman out of the old West. You should never spend one penny on a gambling system.

Every time a so-called winning system has been put to the test in a computer simulation it has failed and failed miserably. They always show the same ratio of losses to money as flat betting. Gambling systems have been around as long as gambling and not one has ever been proven to work.

If you want to have an edge over the casino you can do it by learning to count cards in the game of blackjack. It takes a lot of work to master but it is mathematically proven to overcome the casino edge. By assigning a plus value to smaller cards and a minus value to the Tens and Aces it gives you the composition of the remaining cards to be played, you know if there is a surplus of Tens or a surplus of small cards yet to be dealt. With this information you know if you or the house has the advantage on the upcoming hand and you select your bet size accordingly. Additionally, there are 43 changes in playing strategy over basic strategy. This gives you a more accurate way to play the hands. By playing this way instead of the casino having a 0.57% advantage over the basic strategy player, you have a long-term advantage of about 1 1/2%. You have to play perfectly in order to have this long-term advantage and it takes practice but in the long run it is worth it. $

BlueWater Resort & Casino proudly celebrates the 30th anniversary of our gaming facility an enduring enterprise of CRIT. Nestled along the breathtaking Colorado River, our resort stands as a beacon of natural beauty and cultural pride one that any business owner would envy.

Over the past three decades, we've made an indelible mark across Indian Country Casinos, positioning ourselves as a destination for travelers spanning from the southern United States to the Canadian border. Thanks to our strategic location and unique appeal, we trend three times a year with national travelers and remain a cherished favorite of our local community. From off-road enthusiasts and water recreation fans to those enjoying Arizona’s mild winters and sun-soaked summers, we offer something for everyone.

As a lifelong resident of Parker, Arizona and a proud member of CRIT, my journey in this industry began in 1995, during the formative years of tribal gaming in Arizona. I’ve had the honor of collaborating with exceptional teams for nearly 30 years 17 years with the CRIT Gaming Agency and 13 years with our gaming operations as Manager on Duty and General Manager. Each role has been more than a job; it has been a privilege and a stewardship I deeply value.

ve also had the opportunity to teach and guide incoming professionals both new and seasoned through the core fundamentals of gaming. Many of these individuals came to Parker because of the extraordinary lifestyle that our location offers, and many stayed because of the welcoming community and the beauty of the river.

This resort did not appear overnight. Long before my time, visionary Tribal leaders laid the groundwork, building a dream that would provide supplemental income and create new opportunities for our people. Today, that vision stands tall both literally and figuratively as BlueWater Resort & Casino continues to thrive as a symbol of strength, progress, and Tribal unity.

As we mark this milestone, we remain dedicated to preserving the character of this incredible property inside and out. Being on the waterfront requires constant care, and we’re committed to maintaining the original beauty of our facilities while evolving alongside cutting-edge technology. Innovation in gaming is not optional it is essential.

This 30-year celebration is not just a reflection of time it is a celebration of growth, cultural pride, and economic achievement. I extend my deepest gratitude to the Tribal membership and community. Your continued support, dedication, and heritage have been the foundation of our success.

Each day, I’m humbled by the dedication of our team members. They are the heartbeat of this establishment the strong spokes that keep our grand wheel in motion. Whether they’ve worked in our original facility or this incredible resort, they have helped keep our doors open and revenue flowing to support our Tribal community. I am proud to have stood alongside them throughout the years.

Beyond our team, this legacy includes vital business relationships and collaborations that extend across La Paz County and neighboring towns like Parker, Quartzsite, Bouse, Salome, Wenden, and Blythe, California. The future of this enterprise depends not just on us but on the strength of these relationships and the support of our valued customers.

So to that future, I say, “DO IT. WE CAN BE IT. IT CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED. We are still here 30 years strong and we will continue to believe, build, and dream together. Thank you to the Colorado River Indian Tribes. Thank you to our community. Thank you to every team member past and present. Thank you to the Honorable Tribal Council. Thank you, Arizona. May God bless you all.”

Michelle (Shelli) Eddy Team Leader BlueWater Resort & Casino
Celebrating 30 Years Of Excellence On The Colorado River

Resort & Casino: The Sapphire Of The Desert

In the world of casinos, standing out takes more than just bright lights and big jackpots it takes vision, innovation, and authenticity. At BlueWater Resort & Casino, we ve built something truly one kind. Nestled along the breathtaking Colorado River, we s only riverfront casino, and everything we do every campaign, every guest experience, every decision is designed to reflect the uniqueness of who we are.

As a proud member of CRIT, I was born and raised right here on the reservation. I built a career in hospitality management, rising from line-level roles to general management positions at some of the most prestigious hotel chains across the country. My experience across multiple markets from urban luxury hotels to destination resorts taught me what excellence looks like in all its forms. It also deepened my passion for service, operational excellence, and brand identity.

My journey with BlueWater began as a young adult working in hospitality and operations at the resort, and after spending 20 years away, I returned home with a new mission: to bring cutting-edge business knowledge, marketing strategy, and IT expertise back to where it all started.

Today, as Director of Marketing, I lead with a deep appreciation for our culture and a strong commitment to modern business

practices. With an educational background in business information technology, marketing, entrepreneurship, and management as well as a graduate-level certification in project management I’ve helped position BlueWater Resort & Casino as both a beloved destination and a data-driven enterprise.

Here’s what sets us apart not just visually, but strategically: At BlueWater, we’ve fully embraced the power of information technology and data analytics to shape our marketing strategy and guest experience. We don’t just market to the masses we speak directly to our audience segments using insights drawn from advanced analytics, behavior patterns, and industry trends.

We use data to:

• Identify our market segments and tailor promotions to specific guest types

• Understand our competitors and find new ways to innovate

• Personalize the guest experience across platforms, from online offers to in-casino interactions

• Optimize campaign performance in real time, ensuring we’re always adjusting based on what’s working

By blending traditional hospitality with modern tech, we’re creating marketing that isn’t just reactive it’s proactive, predictive, and personalized. And that means our players feel seen, valued, and excited every time they engage with us.

Of course, all the strategy in the world wouldn’t matter without something truly special to promote and that’s where BlueWater really shines.

We are the Sapphire of the Desert. With a private beach, fullservice marina, and 200 river-facing resort rooms, there’s truly no other casino in Arizona like ours. Each balcony offers a frontrow seat to stunning sunrises and sunsets over the Colorado River. It's not just a getaway it's an experience you can’t replicate.

Guests always ask, “What makes you different from other casinos?” And my answer is always the same, “We’re BlueWater. Come look at us we shine differently.”

From the serene beauty of the river to the high-tech strategies behind every campaign, BlueWater Resort & Casino is redefining what it means to be a destination. We're proud of our roots, passionate about innovation, and focused on delivering an experience that’s as unforgettable as the view.

My career in hospitality and gaming began in 1998 at Central Arizona College (CAC) in Coolidge, Arizona. While attending CAC, I volunteered to participate in an event in Albuquerque, New Mexico an experience that became a pivotal moment. There, I met an academic advisor who introduced me to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and posed a question that shaped my future: “Why not study hospitality & gaming?”

It made perfect sense. CRIT were in the process of developing a new resort and casino along the Colorado River, and I saw an opportunity to align my education with the evolving needs of my community.

At UNLV, I explored the advantages and challenges of gaming, well beyond the core curriculum. During this era, Indian Gaming was emerging as a viable and competitive force, offering Las Vegas-style experiences on tribal lands. As a CRIT member, I was inspired to contribute to that progress. My capstone courses and internships provided practical, hands-on training, and through them, I returned home to BlueWater, where I began applying classroom theory in real-world operations.

There is no moment quite like realizing you've reached a meaningful milestone one where your culture, education, and career all intersect.

At BlueWater, I’ve built my career from the ground up, rotating through various departments and gradually earning leadership

positions. These roles have taught me critical lessons in operational compliance, budget management, and organizational behavior. More importantly, they have helped me forge strong relationships with General Management, Team Members, and CRIT as a whole.

My journey is a reflection of both professional growth and gratitude giving back to the Tribe that invested in my education and believed in my potential.

In my current role as Director of Slot Operations, I oversee one of the most dynamic areas of the casino. Game selection is a key strategy one that requires balancing classic favorites with new, immersive offerings. We collaborate with leading software vendors to provide a diverse mix of titles that attract new players and keep regular guests engaged.

The gaming industry is rapidly evolving. At BlueWater Resort & Casino, we are embracing that change through taller cabinets, surround sound, 4K high-definition monitors, and edge-lit animations. Our goal is to create an unforgettable experience one that brings guests back, time and again.

Vendor relationships and understanding player preferences are central to our strategy. These partnerships help ensure we stay competitive while preserving the unique identity of our resort.

What may surprise many is that, despite my role, I don't have a favorite game on the casino floor. My passion lies in sports, and I spend most of my leisure time in the sportsbook. When I visit other casinos, I’m more focused on observing culture, operations, and guest experience than playing games.

For me, casinos are a reflection of the communities they serve. In tribal gaming, that carries even greater meaning because it’s about sovereignty, sustainability, and shared success.

Career milestones extend beyond titles or promotions. They align with personal values and a sense of direction. Tribal gaming is a cornerstone of economic development for many Indigenous communities. Through regulatory integrity and responsible growth, we ensure it remains a trusted industry.

At BlueWater, we’re not just running a business we’re preserving heritage, creating opportunities, and investing in our future. The gaming industry plays a vital role in supporting essential services not only for CRIT but across the state.

Ultimately, our mission is clear: to offer great experiences to our guests while helping others explore and appreciate the rich history of Indigenous Peoples. The path forward is built on preservation, economic growth, and infrastructure three pillars that will guide us for generations to come. $

ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF GAMING:

Cease And Desist! Alerting Consumers About Illegal Gambling Operators!

Back in November of 2024, the Arizona Department of Gaming (“ADG”) served a Cease-and-Desist order against illegal online gaming sites, Bovada.com and Bovada.lv which are operated by Harp Media B.V. State charges against Bovada/Harp Media include Felony Promotion of Gambling, Felony Illegal Control of an Enterprise, and Felony Money Laundering.

Unfortunately, ADG has recently issued more Cease-and-Desist orders against other companies. And, anecdotally, while we use software to circumvent digital ads and tracking at our business and also in our personal lives, we continue to see digital advertisements by several of the entities served with Cease-and-Desist letters while physically here in Arizona. So, as a service to our readers, what follows is unfortunately yet another warning to consumers from ADG. Please spread the message to your friends, family and casino buddies. The easy solution? Stay safe and only gamble in person at Arizona’s many Tribal casinos!

ADG has taken decisive enforcement action against multiple unlicensed and unregulated gambling operators both domestic and international that have been unlawfully targeting Arizona residents. As part of its ongoing efforts to protect the public and uphold Arizona gaming laws, ADG has issued several cease-and-desist orders to unlicensed entities offering unlawful wagering activities

The named operators are allegedly providing access to various illegal online gaming services, including slot-style casino games, “sweepstakes” platforms, sports wagering, horse race betting, and peer-to-peer wagering exchanges. These operations are not licensed by the State and fail to meet Arizona’s strict regulatory requirements, thereby posing significant consumer protection and financial risks to Arizonans.

The following unlicensed operators have been issued cease-and-desist orders: Sweepstakes: ARB Gaming, LLC d/b/a Modo.us MODO.us (online casino) / BITMODO LLC Modo, Epic Hunts. Event Wagering Sportsbook: Generiz. Peer-to-Peer Exchange: ProphetX. Offers Multiple Types: MyBookie, BetUS.com.pa.

The active operations of these companies and online websites in Arizona are alleged to be felony criminal enterprises, and each operator has been directed to desist from any future illegal gambling operations or activities of any type in Arizona. Due to the unregulated and illegal online gaming offerings on these sites, operators are claimed to be in violation of Arizona gaming laws, including: Felony Promotion of Gambling, Felony Illegal Control of an Enterprise, and Felony Money Laundering.

Each aforementioned operator has been directed to immediately cease all online (or other) gambling operations and activities in Arizona, and take the necessary steps to immediately prevent and exclude Arizona residents and visitors from gambling on their websites.

“Illegal gaming no matter the platform or format has no place in Arizona. Whether it’s sweepstakes, online casino-style games, or unauthorized sports

betting, if an operation exists outside of the state’s legal and regulatory framework, we are prepared to take enforcement action," stated Jackie Johnson, Director of the ADG. "Illegal gambling is not just unlawful it’s stealing from our economy and undermining the safeguards that protect consumers. The Department fully supports the licensed and regulated operators who are doing things the right way operating within the bounds of the law, contributing to Arizona’s economy, and providing the protections that only a regulated market can ensure.”

Consumer Protection Advisory: As illegal online gaming activity continues to rise, the ADG urges all residents and visitors to be cautious when participating in gaming whether online or in person. Regulated gaming offers important consumer protections helping ensure fair play, data security, accountability, and a safer overall experience.

Many online platforms currently accessible in Arizona are neither licensed nor regulated, exposing users to significant risks, including fraud, identity theft, and financial loss. Because these operations fall outside the state’s regulatory authority, ADG cannot assist with complaints or disputes involving unregulated or illegal gaming activities often leaving victims with no recourse for recovering lost funds. It is important to remember: just because you can download the app, access the website, and play the games does not mean the platform is legal or safe.

Individuals are encouraged to verify the legitimacy of any gaming platform before placing bets or engaging in gameplay. To protect yourself, always use legally authorized and state-regulated operators. A complete list of authorized casinos, event wagering operators, fantasy sports operators, and off-track betting for horse racing is available on ADG’s official website: gaming.az.gov.

If you encounter what appears to be an illegal gaming website, app, or an operation impersonating an authorized Arizona casino or licensed operator, take the following steps: 1. Document the website URL, app, business name, and any promotional materials associated with the platform or operator. 2. Report it to ADG at publicaffairs@azgaming.gov and the Arizona Attorney General’s Office Consumer Information and Complaints Unit at (602) 542-5763 or by visiting azag.gov/consumer. 3. Cease activity on the platform and monitor financial accounts for unauthorized transactions. 4. If you suspect identity theft, report it to the Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”): for help in English, go to IdentityTheft.gov and for help in Spanish, go to RobodeIdentidad.gov.

ADG takes complaints about all illegal gambling seriously. To report suspected illegal gambling activity of any type, visit their website at gaming.az.gov/ about/contact-us, call (602) 255-3886, or email publicaffairs@azgaming.gov. You can remain anonymous. $

About ADG: Established by the AZ State Legislature in 1995, ADG is the state regulatory agency for tribal gaming, event wagering & fantasy sports contests, racing and pari-mutuel/simulcast wagering, and unarmed combat sports. ADG also provides and supports education, prevention, and treatment programs for people and families affected by problem gambling through its Division of Problem Gambling and 24-hour confidential helpline, 1-800-NEXT STEP.

FOCUS ON THE MULTIPLE OF YOUR BET

When You Do Win, Proportionality Matters, Not Just The Amount...

This month I want to bring up an important topic, at least in my mind. I believe it’s valuable to reinforce with our readers as well. Let’s face it, winning is everything, inside and outside the casino. No argument there, not from me.

What I do want to point out is the proportionality of a win. Especially your win. Not someone else’s. What frequently gets lost in translation on any casino floor is how much a patron bets compared to what they win. And, I won’t go too far down this rabbit hole, the state of that patron’s bankroll.

Now what am I driving at, exactly? Well, while for some patrons it’s fun to see someone else win $100,000 (or more) on a slot or at the tables, it wasn't you, right? What matters ultimately is your experience, not someone else’s. Afterall, it’s your bankroll. The other winner isn’t handing you a portion (or all) of their win. I’m pretty confident most of our readers don’t hand over their winnings to random strangers at the casino either!

So, from personal experience, winning tens of thousands of dollars is a rush. But, I’ve also had some pretty incredible wins which won’t end up on anyone’s “High Score” list. In my mind, some of those wins are just as satisfying, if not more so, than the numerous times when I’ve walked away up over $50,000.

Winning 1,000 times any bet is pretty incredible regardless of the size of your bet! Actually, I think 250 times your bet is already a really great win. You need to be celebrating those wins as they are significant. They add back to your bankroll more than you may realize. Even if you are “only” betting $0.50, a win of $125 or more is 250 times bet. A $500 win is 1,000 times your bet. That’s awesome!

And just to drive home another point, when was the last time you saw a $100 bet pay off $100,000 at your favorite casino? How often does that happen? But that $100 per spin patron wins $2,000 and everyone is duped into believing the win is beyond belief! That’s just 20 times their bet and a joke of a win. For perspective, at a bet of $0.50, a win of 20 times bet is $10.00. What’s that doing for your bankroll? Not too much.

Please let me know what you think about this month’s column. Or, write me about another topic. And, I invite casino employees (frontline up to the C-Suite) to write in as well (yes, you can remain anonymous or ask not to have your comments printed). As always, have fun and good luck! $

This is my pic at the end of a free game bonus (no progressive just wins). I was betting $4.00 with a win of $11,733.15. 2,933 times bet!

Cynthia Heimel (American Humorist & Writer, 1947-2018)
