PLAYERS TALK

FROM A CASINO EMPLOYEE: Sometimes We Also Struggle With The Atmosphere...

This is a recent email from a casino employee who wishes to remain anonymous. We are printing it with only minor editing for grammar, punctuation, etc.

Dear Editor at the AZ Gaming Guide: I’ve been reading your magazine for many years and it’s always interesting and fun. I am a casino employee and I want to comment on a few topics you’ve addressed in the guides lately.

Throughout various articles, customer comments in Players Talk and Sami’s Smackdown (my favorite column), you’ve talked about the intolerable level of noise from the music being piped through the speakers to the people turning up the volume on the slots and smacking the buttons. The casino has become a very, very loud environment.

I really appreciated the response you gave to a reader regarding Walmart’s “quiet time” during early morning hours every day. And, thank you for challenging the casino suits to consider instituting something similar. Or, at the very least, write in to you explaining their point of view on the subject. I wonder if any of them even bothered to get back to you?

Yes, several “casino suits” got back to us. They wish to remain anonymous and not have their responses printed. The gist of the messages from them is the struggle between an environment that is “fun” or becomes “over the top” to “this is too much and customers are leaving.”

I know they read your magazines and I know they always discuss issues they read about in your magazines. I hear things and so do the people that I work with. Word gets around. I know change just takes time.

Let me explain my specific situation. I am a bartender. When I first started working in the casino, the noise level was nowhere near to the level it is now. Many times, in your articles, you refer to other players being bothered by the noise but I don’t recall you ever mentioning the casino employees.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not upset but I’m also not surprised because we (casino employees) tend to be part of the environment and the noise. Since we work at a casino, if a customer is mad about something, they’ll direct their anger at us – as if we have something to do with whatever they’re angry about. We,

the employees, can be just as frustrated as all the rest of you. Trust me.

If the noise at the casino gets to be too much for a player, they can switch machines, go to another casino or just go home. I’m a worker who can’t go home until my shift is over.

Try tending a bar with an extremely loud and [boisterous group] of young men/women celebrating a bachelor/ bachelorette party, while at the same time listening to about a dozen people smacking the crap out of the buttons playing keno and video poker at the bar AND at the slots on the floor closest to the bar AND listening to “Let’s Go Dodgers” being screamed every few minutes by yet another group of people at/close to the bar all while AC/DC’s Back in Black is blasting through the casino speakers.

It’s definitely challenging after an 8-hour shift. BTW, I’m not asking for sympathy. I chose this job and I need this job. I have a wife and family to support and the pay is decent.

You know how I tolerate the noise? Deep breaths often, a mantra, utilizing my scheduled breaks, and a Xanax, if necessary, every now and then.

Please do not state my real name if you decide to print this letter or put it on social media. I wrote this note to the AZ Gaming Guide in the hopes that you will share with your readers.

Please be kind to the casino employees, because we are just trying to make a living. We are the ones who have to spend 40+ hours per week on a casino floor and tolerate a lot on a daily basis, not just noise (at levels I question about hearing loss) but also obnoxious behavior, disorderly conduct, decisions passed down from above, and on, and on.

Please don’t take your frustrations out on the low-level casino employees. We’re only human and we’re all in the same boat.

To our readers, fans, casino employees and executives. We welcome your feedback. You can indicate if you wish to remain anonymous or if you’d prefer not to have your comments printed. Until next month, Have Fun & Good Luck! $

Thank you to our readers for your questions and comments, we appreciate you! Write us at Editor@AZGamingGuide.com or by mail at Editor, AZ Gaming Guide, PO BOX 20636, Mesa, AZ, 85277.

Plus: How To Play Dai Bacc Baccarat

N ARIZONA CASINO GAME FAVORITES

ew casino games come and go, depending on how the gaming public receives them. If we like them, we play them. Pretty simple. However, most new games are field-tested in Nevada before they arrive in Arizona, so many never make it to use here in the Copper State.

As most everyone knows, playing blackjack and employing basic strategy produces the lowest house edge a player encounters. Even if you don’t know all the basic strategy keys, just standing with a hard 12 or higher against a dealer up card of six or lower – and hitting until you have 17 or higher when the dealer’s up card is seven or higher produces about a 2 percent house edge that’s low for casino games.

And what’s the most popular table game? That’s right, it’s 21, also known as blackjack. Another game with a low house edge is craps, where betting on the pass or no-pass has a house edge of just 1.4%. It’s the proposition bets, like the horn and hard ways, that have high odds.

Baccarat is also a great game to play with a tiny house edge of just 1.06% when betting on the banker. Of course, Arizona casinos have adopted faster, easier-to-play variations, such as Mini Baccarat, the most common style where a single dealer handles all the cards.

You can also find Midi Baccarat on slightly larger tables where the players may touch the cards, but as always, you don’t play the hands; you just bet on the Player, Banker, or the Tie spot.

At EZ Baccarat, the 5% banker commission is waived, and the game proceeds at a nice, fast pace. Instead of the commission, when the banker wins with a three-card total of seven, the banker's bet is a push.

HOW TO PLAY DAI BACC BACCARAT

Adding to the mixture of Arizona casino games available is Dai Bacc Baccarat. Dai Bacc is also a commission-free game, where a Banker hand win with a three-card total of seven is a push for the Banker bet, like EZ Baccarat.

However, Dai Bacc has three side wagers that offer big payouts:

A 40 to 1 payoff on the Tiger 7 circle with a Banker winning hand with a three-card seven.

A 40 to 1 payoff on the Ox 6 circle with a Player winning hand with a three-card six.

A 30 to 1 payoff on the Kill Bet circle with a Banker loss or tie with a three-card seven, or a Player loss or tie with a three-card six.

My best advice here is to keep those side bets low compared to your Banker/Player wager because they don’t hit often. Tiger 7 carries a 7.5% house edge while the Ox 6 comes in at 10% and the Kill Bet at 13%.

NEW SLOTS I ENJOY PLAYING

When the Phoenix Link slots arrived a few months ago, they were exclusive to Arizona. They are built on the backbone of the popular Dragon Link series and offer progressive jackpots and new features. Look for the hot themes of Confucius Say, General Tso, Queen Chiu, and Sensei Master

Thor’s Thunder and Egyptian Magic aren’t exclusive to Arizona, but they are constantly in action. I enjoy trying new games, and currently, the Pinball Double Gold slots are my favorite. $

TABLE GAMES

SOME OF MY FAVORITE BLACKJACK STORIES

Big Win, After Big Win, After Big Win...

Everyone dreams of having that big win. For a select few, dreams do come true and the following stories are great examples of how fortune can rain down on lucky players at the blackjack table. So, enjoy reading about those that did have that big win.

BRENT & I: When I was twenty-one my friend Brent and I were in Las Vegas and after coming home at 2 in the morning, Brent wanted to play blackjack. I told him that wasn't a good idea since we had quite a few cocktails, he would just lose all his money. He insisted, so I told him to give me all his money except for $20. I expected to see him in about 10 minutes. At 11 a.m. he finally made it back to the room throwing $100 bills up in the air! He said he made over $10,000 off of that $20.

GOKSEL SELAY: Mr. Selay was born in Cypress and working as a taxi driver in Southend, England. Goksel had a dream that he would win big money in a card game. One night he was having a particularly quiet shift and decided to step into the Genting Club Westcliff in Southend. His preferred casino table games were roulette and craps but, as a result of his dream, he gave the blackjack tables a whirl. After an incredible run of luck, he left the club with a handsome sum of $176,000 in his wallet. Who says dreams don’t come true?

MICHAEL GEISMAR: While attending a three-day conference in Las Vegas, one of the founders of Quantitative Investment Management, Michael Geismar, was having a hearty breakfast when he decided on a quick visit to the blackjack tables. With only $300 in cash and a $10,000 line of credit from the casino, Geismar proceeded to rack up winnings over $700,000 over the next 48 hours playing blackjack. A big believer in the strategy that requires a player to increase the stake after each losing hand, his tactic proved immensely successful during this sortie. This particular visit provided one of the biggest wins the Bellagio casino tables had ever seen.

SHOELESS JOE: This story can’t go unmentioned. Not only was his one of the biggest blackjack wins in history, but it was also one of the most memorable, especially for those who witnessed it. To date, his true identity has never been discovered, but the man named “Shoeless Joe” took the Treasure Island Casino by storm in 1995. Legend has it that he converted a $400 Security Check into $1.6 million within the space of 36 hours. “Joe” proceeded, via a combination of outrageous luck and a very unconventional style of blackjack play, to relieve the casino

of a substantial amount of money in double-quick time. Unshaven, unkempt, and even accused of being smelly, he won a lot of money but not many friends.

KERRY PACKER: Australian billionaire Kerry Packer was highly successful at pretty much every endeavor in which he so enthusiastically involved himself. His most famous win happened at the MGM Grand in 1995, where he delighted in taking around $40 million off the blackjack tables within an hour. It’s widely reported that he was betting $250,000 per hand as he proceeded with his Genghis Khan-like assault on the precious treasury of the legendary casino. Incredibly, he was also a multiple casino owner in his native Australia, thus being a winner on both sides of the table.

SHANE SMITH: Shane, the Chief Executive Officer of Vice Media, still holds a special place in blackjack’s pantheon of heroes. While attending an electronics exhibition in Las Vegas, he decided to relax by playing a few games at the MGM Resort and sat down at a blackjack table. Within a few hours, Smith had amassed a pot of $100,000. This is by no means a staggering amount of money given the enormous amounts won by other players, but what sets Smith’s win apart from his fellow winners is that he blew approximately one-third of his winnings on a celebratory dinner. The Prime Steakhouse was the lucky recipient of his charity, together with a large crowd of supporters who had been cheering him on during his winning streak.

BEN AFFLECK: Apart from being one of the biggest names in show business, Ben Affleck is actually an extremely impressive card player. So impressive, in fact, that he has been banned for life from playing blackjack at the Hard Rock Cafe in Vegas for allegedly counting cards in 2014. This ban, however, came 13 years after one of his most notable wins at that very casino. The Oscar-winning actor ran up a staggering $800,000 stack at the Hard Rock Casino in 2001 after playing three $20,000 hands in one night. He even left the staff with a generous $145,000 tip as a thank you! $

BLUEWATER RESORT & CASINO SPOTLIGHT:

Veteran Food & Beverage Executive, Hospitality Leader, Creative Strategist

My name is Daniel Frank, and I’ve dedicated more than 22 years of my life to the world of gaming and hospitality. It’s been a dynamic, challenging, and deeply fulfilling journey one built on integrity, collaboration, and a steadfast belief in the transformative power of tribal gaming. From my early beginnings in the industry to my current leadership role, I’ve been fortunate to grow alongside a field that’s constantly evolving and innovating.

Over the years, I’ve held a variety of executive and operational roles, primarily within tribal gaming and hospitality organizations. Each position has provided me the opportunity to hone my leadership style, broaden my understanding of complex business ecosystems, and play an active role in helping tribal nations achieve economic sovereignty and long-term success. I’ve had the privilege of working on high-impact projects, from overseeing financial planning to spearheading the construction of new casino and resort properties. These endeavors have not only required strategic vision and technical acumen but also a genuine respect for the tribal communities I’ve served.

One of the defining milestones in my career has been my work with BlueWater Resort & Casino, a property that exemplifies what makes tribal gaming so extraordinary. Situated along the beautiful Colorado River, BlueWater is more than a resort it’s a symbol of community pride, innovation, and hospitality excellence. What makes it truly special isn’t just the location it’s the culture we’ve built, the people behind the scenes, and the relentless pursuit of delivering unforgettable guest experiences. It’s a place where innovation is encouraged and where we’re empowered to think differently about what hospitality can be.

While many people assume my role is strictly operational or financial focused on budgets, forecasts, and logistics that’s only one side of the equation. What many don’t see is the creative heart of my work. I’ve always believed that successful hospitality operations are built on imagination, emotional intelligence, and the ability to see through the eyes of our guests. I take immense pride in developing not just services, but experiences those moments that make someone’s visit truly memorable.

From concepting unique dining themes to collaborating with

chefs on new food and beverage programs, I’m deeply involved in the creative development process across the property. Whether we’re curating seasonal menus, redesigning a restaurant space, or refining our service approach, I tackle each initiative with both a strategic mindset and a guest-first attitude. My passion lies in blending operational excellence with experiential creativity an approach that’s proven successful in driving profitability while also deepening guest loyalty.

In addition to my work on the resort floor, I’ve led significant capital improvement projects and construction initiatives across various properties. Managing construction timelines, vendor relationships, and budgetary constraints while ensuring that the final product aligns with both tribal goals and guest expectations is no small task. But I’ve always thrived in this space balancing big-picture vision with day-to-day details.

(Continued on page 25)

Over the course of my career, I’ve also become a trusted voice in the tribal gaming community, having been invited to speak at major industry conferences and collaborate with top tribal leaders and stakeholders. These experiences have enriched my perspective, sharpened my leadership style, and introduced me to a network of passionate professionals equally committed to advancing the future of tribal gaming.

I find great joy in mentoring up-and-coming talent in the industry. Having started from the ground up, I understand how critical it is to nurture the next generation of hospitality professionals. Whether I’m providing guidance to a new food & beverage manager or working closely with emerging tribal leaders, I believe in paying it forward and supporting others as they carve out their own career paths.

Outside of my leadership responsibilities, I make it a point to stay personally connected to the full guest experience. When visiting sister tribal properties, I always take time to explore the casino floor, dine at all the outlets, and observe the flow of the operation. I’m not just analyzing from a business perspective I’m immersing myself as a guest would. And yes, I also indulge in one of my guilty pleasures: playing slot machines. It may surprise some, but for me, slots are a way to relax and recharge. In a world where every decision matters and every moment is planned, those few minutes of pressing a button and letting chance takeover is my form of therapy.

And of course, no visit is complete without indulging in exceptional cuisine. I consider myself a true glutton for great food, and I see culinary offerings as one of the most powerful tools we have in shaping the guest experience. Food tells a story it communicates culture, creativity, and care. That’s why I’m relentless in my pursuit of culinary excellence, not just as a professional responsibility, but as a personal passion.

Looking ahead, I remain committed to pushing boundaries and challenging conventional norms in tribal hospitality. The industry is rapidly changing technology, guest expectations, and economic pressures are all evolving. But with change comes opportunity. I firmly believe that tribal gaming, when rooted in tradition but open to innovation, can continue to set new standards in guest engagement and business performance.

One area I’m particularly excited about is the intersection of technology and guest personalization. From AI-driven marketing to smarter loyalty programs and frictionless check-in experiences, there’s immense potential to enhance the guest journey while increasing operational efficiency. I see it as my responsibility not just to keep up with trends, but to lead with foresight, ensuring our properties are future-ready while staying true to the values of the communities we represent.

As I reflect on the last two decades of my career, I’m filled with gratitude for the leaders who mentored me, the teams I’ve had the privilege to lead, and the tribal communities who trusted me to help realize their vision. It hasn’t always been easy. There have been challenges, setbacks, and learning moments. But through it all, I’ve stayed focused on my mission: to deliver hospitality with heart, lead with purpose, and leave a positive legacy for the industry and communities I serve.

This is more than just a job to me it’s a calling. And while I’ve accomplished much, I know there’s still more to do, more to learn, and more to build. I look forward to continuing this journey, with curiosity in my mind, purpose in my heart, and a fierce dedication to excellence in everything I do.

EMBRACING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

New Book Details Step-By-Step Approach

Writers should embrace artificial intelligence the same way they would an assistant who can take over tasks like research and generating outlines or basic drafts, says prolific author Hank Quense.

“When we use AI to reduce the time we spend on mundane tasks, it allows us to focus on higher-level aspects of the creative process, such as refining content, adding emotional depth, and ensuring accuracy and authenticity,” Quense said.

In his groundbreaking new book, The Author’s AI Toolkit: From Concept to Publication, Quense shares practical tools and realworld examples to help modern writers harness the power of AI for their creative and professional endeavors, including how to leverage and integrate AI across five key areas of the writing process:

Planning: Discover how AI can assist with brainstorming ideas, creating outlines and structuring projects efficiently. Whether developing a novel or planning a nonfiction book, AI tools can help writers organize thoughts and overcome creative blocks.

Writing: Learn how to use AI for tasks like refining prose, generating dialogue, enhancing character development and even world-building. The book demonstrates how these tools can act as a creative partner without compromising a unique voice.

Publishing: Simplify the technical aspects of publishing with AIdriven solutions for formatting manuscripts, designing book covers and crafting compelling descriptions. These tools make self-publishing more accessible than ever.

Book Marketing: Explore innovative ways to market a book using AI. From identifying target audiences to creating personalized campaigns and optimizing social media content, this guide shows how AI can amplify reach and engagement.

Author Business: Manage an author brand with AI tools that assist in drafting newsletters, analyzing market trends and even automating administrative tasks.

Ultimately, The Author's AI Toolkit empowers writers to embrace AI as a collaborative tool not a replacement for a writer’s unique voice and creative talents. From seasoned authors to those just starting their journeys as writers, The Author's AI Toolkit will transform how to approach their craft and business.

“In a rapidly evolving digital landscape, AI has become an invaluable companion for writers, offering solutions that save time, spark creativity and streamline workflows,” Quense added. “Do not fear AI. Embrace its ethical applications.”

ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF GAMING CPA:

Warning Of The Risk Of Unsanctioned Events!

The Arizona State Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts Commission (“the Commission”) was made aware of an unsanctioned boxing event scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 15, 2025, in Chino Valley, Arizona. Because this event was not sanctioned by the Commission or any State or Tribal Commission recognized by the Association of Boxing Commissions (“ABC"), this event was an unsanctioned event. The Department urges the public, participants, and licensees to exercise caution and avoid involvement in unregulated combat sports activities.

The Commission regulates unarmed combat sports in Arizona to protect the safety of fighters, ensure fair competition, and uphold professional standards. Sanctioned events are subject to strict oversight, including medical evaluations, ringside physicians, trained officials, and adherence to state laws and regulations. Under Arizona Revised Statutes (“A.R.S.”) § 5-236, participation in an unsanctioned event may result in a class 2 misdemeanor and license revocation, denial, or suspension.

Accordingly, the Commission ordered the organizers of this event to cancel all planned or contemplated combat sporting events in Arizona that have not received official sanctioning from the Commission. They have been further directed to refrain from promoting, hosting, or engaging in this activity unless proper authorization has been obtained. The hosting and/or promoting of unsanctioned combat sporting events is illegal, and conducting these events without appropriate licensure is a class 1 and class 2 misdemeanor within the State of Arizona.

CONSUMER PROTECTION & FIGHTER SAFETY

Unregulated events pose significant risks to all involved. It’s important to emphasize that regulated events require fighters to have up-to-date medical exams before stepping into the ring. In contrast, unregulated or unsanctioned events typically bypass these critical requirements, significantly increasing risk to fighter safety.

Fighters may be exposed to unsafe conditions, improper matchmaking, and a lack of medical supervision. These events often occur without doctors or emergency medical services on-site, and without adherence to established health and safety protocols. This absence of regulatory oversight puts both fighters and

spectators at risk, leaving them vulnerable to unethical practices and substandard safety measures.

RISK TO LICENSEES & PARTICIPANTS

Any individual licensed by the Commission whether a fighter, promoter, official, or second who participates in or supports an unsanctioned event may face disciplinary action, including suspension or revocation of their license. Promoters who operate without the required approvals are subject to legal penalties under Arizona law.

REPORTING UNLICENSED ACTIVITY

The Department takes reports of unsanctioned events seriously. If you are aware of unsanctioned combat sports activity and would like to provide tips or information, please contact the Department’s Division of Boxing and MMA’s messaging line at (602) 364-1721 or email infobox@azgaming.gov. Tips may also be submitted through publicaffairs@azgaming.gov. You may choose to remain anonymous.

The Department remains committed to ensuring the integrity, safety, and professionalism of unarmed combat sports in Arizona. The safety of the Licensees is the Commission’s greatest concern, so participation in unsanctioned events a high safety risk will be addressed to the fullest extent of the Commission’s statutory authority. Please be forewarned that any Licensee of the Commission that participates in this event will be subject to the disciplinary consequences outlined above.

Also, the Arizona Department of Gaming (ADG) takes complaints about all illegal gambling seriously. To report suspected illegal gambling activity of any type, visit their website at gaming.az.gov/about/contact-us, call (602) 255-3886, or email publicaffairs@azgaming.gov. You can remain anonymous. $

About ADG: Established by the AZ State Legislature in 1995, ADG is the state regulatory agency for tribal gaming, event wagering & fantasy sports contests, racing and pari-mutuel/simulcast wagering, and unarmed combat sports. ADG also provides and supports education, prevention, and treatment programs for people and families affected by problem gambling through its Division of Problem Gambling and 24-hour confidential helpline, 1-800-NEXT STEP.

ALERT! Sports Betting

In Futures & Commodities Markets

The Commodities Futures Trading Commission (“CFTC”), the federal agency most commonly known for its regulation of commodities like pork bellies, cattle, soy beans and corn, is allowing bets on sports and events (political, economic, even the weather!), under the auspices of labeling such bets as “futures contracts.” There is ongoing litigation to halt these bets from States like Arizona, Nevada, New Jersey, and Maryland. In New Jersey, the District Court recently granted a preliminary injunction in favor of financial services company, KalshiEX, LLC which had asked the District Court to temporarily halt the enforcement of New Jersey’s State gaming laws against them. New Jersey has appealed to the 3rd Circuit.

Unless acted upon, the number of sports-based event contracts traded on the Derivatives/Futures market is only expected to grow, ushering in reason for concern for tribal gaming operators and regulators across the United States. It will be crucial moving forward for Tribal governments to closely follow this matter as it evolves in the CFTC and in the courts. By allowing these event contracts that are wholly unrelated to commodities, the CFTC risks making public policy decisions that ignore the detrimental impacts from sports betting that every State and Tribal government has a sovereign duty to evaluate. Additionally, every sports event contract that is traded on Tribal land or in violation of a TribalState compact deprives Tribes and States of revenue.

About The Indian Gaming Association: The Indian Gaming Association (IGA), established in 1985, is a non-profit organization of 184 Indian Nations with other non-voting associate members representing organizations, tribes, and businesses engaged in tribal gaming enterprises from around the country. Casino Del Sol Celebrates Construction Milestone With Beam Signing At New Grant Road Property

Casino Del Sol and the Pascua Yaqui Tribe celebrated a major milestone recently with a beam signing ceremony at the site of their new property on Grant Road. The event marked the completion of the building’s structural framework and included remarks from Tribal leadership, Tucson Mayor Regina Romero and Casino Del Sol executive leadership.

Guests in attendance signed the final steel beam before it was lifted into place, a symbolic step in the “topping out” of the 163,000-square-foot facility. The new development will feature a 52,334-square-foot gaming floor, multiple dining options, and a four-level parking garage. Located just off Interstate 10, the property is expected to be completed by November 2026. “This is going to create a lot of jobs and economic opportunities,” said Amanda Lomayesva, interim CEO of Casino Del Sol. “Jobs for Pascua Yaqui Tribal members, but also for Tucson. It’s a boost to the economy and a lot of excitement and fun for the community.”

The project, which broke ground in January 2025, is expected to bring 400 new jobs to the area and is seen as a transformative investment for the Pascua Yaqui Tribe. Lomayesva noted the strong collaboration with the City of Tucson throughout the development process, made possible in part by the Old Pascua Community Land Acquisition Act legislation introduced by the late Congressman Raúl Grijalva and signed into law in 2022.

The beam signing honored the many hands involved in the project and served as a proud moment in the continued growth of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe’s presence in Southern Arizona. For more information, visit CasinoDelSol.com. $

CUTTING A CASINO’S CORD

One Reader’s “How To Guide” On Walking Away

There are some casinos in Arizona that truly value their patrons and provide top notch customer service and then, unfortunately, there are some that do not. That’s just a fact. Sometimes it’s poor management, sometimes it’s the inability to find good employees who are willing to do the work, and occasionally a business exhibits complete and total apathy, top to bottom. Regardless of the reason, it’s up to each of us to decide whether or not a casino is worth frequenting.

Most of the residents of Arizona have at least one casino option available to them within a 15-20 minute drive from where they live. Convenience is not a good reason to choose to spend your hard-earned entertainment dollars at any casino, but I know that a casino’s proximity to where you live plays a big factor. You’re tired, you’ve had a long week, it’s Friday night and all you and your spouse want to do is grab a bite to eat and enjoy a couple hours of gaming, so driving to a casino that’s one hour away when there’s one just down the street doesn’t sound appealing.

I have to commend one of our long-time readers who wrote me a detailed email recently on some of the gaming decisions she’s made as part of her New Year’s resolutions. She wished to remain anonymous so I’ll just refer to her as “Susan.”

“I hold a top-level card at four different casinos in Arizona,” said Susan and “This year I have decided that [two of those four casinos] will no longer receive my business.” She went on to explain the several reasons for her firm decision. First and foremost was the fact that numerous, extremely valid, concerns that she had brought up to management were not addressed to her satisfaction. Second of all, she realized that in a direct comparison, two of the four casinos did not provide her with the best overall service and experience.

“Quite a bit of money is pumped through the games, not to mention the time it takes, to achieve the highest-level tier at any casino, let alone four,” said Susan. “Besides traveling, one of the things my husband and I enjoy doing is visiting casinos on our time off from our busy work schedules.”

Based on the reasons for her decisions, I fully support Susan and am extremely impressed with the level of detail and analysis her and her husband performed when evaluating which casinos were going to continue to receive their business.

ed by a host or even invited to a VIP event! ing at the Players Club that, based on her high level of play, she does have a host and her host “should be reaching out to her,” no one ever did. That’s when Susan and her husband decided to dig a little deeper. When they realized that this particular casino’s free play, promotions, and other services didn’t come anywhere close to the other casinos’ benefits, it was an easy decision to cross this casino off their list.

Another casino was eliminated because Susan said she “just wasn’t winning very often at [this casino] but never understood why? I felt I was spending more time and money there, but receiving less taxable hand pays and way less in rewards and benefits.” The easy conclusion to come to is that maybe the games are just set tighter there than at the other casinos, but that doesn’t have to be the case. Sometimes a casino’s energy can just be off and it’s as simple as that. What type of crowd usually visits that particular casino? Where are your favorite games located? How loud is the atmosphere? The noise, the lights, the people, the overall environment, or dozens of other factors, can all play a role in your experience. If you don’t feel comfortable when you’re playing, it will definitely affect your play sessions.

“This year is about making smart choices across the board in our lives. My husband and I will not play at any casinos where we don’t feel appreciated anymore. And we’re going to make an effort this year to drive to some of the other casinos we read about all the time in your magazine. Who knows? We may just find our next favorite casino! We’ll let you know!”

Kudos to you, Susan, for choosing wisely where to spend your entertainment dollars, and your valuable time! I hope our readers take your message to heart and follow your lead as well. $
