Tras dos años de pandemia, que nos ha enfrentado a intensos retos físicos, sociales, económicos e intelectuales en el marco de la llamada “nueva normalidad”, la campaña del #19BOGOSHORTS plantea la pregunta: ¿Dónde estamos?, proponiendo una reflexión sobre el estado de la realidad para definir nuestra ubicación (espacial, temporal, ¡emocional!) para decidir nuestros próximos pasos y emprender un viaje de transformación. Con esta premisa hemos diseñado los dos programas especiales ‘Fronteras cruzadas’, con obras de ficción, documental y animación sobre cómo nos enfrentamos a las fronteras personales y sociales; y cómo sentimos e interactuamos con la historia y la naturaleza de los espacios que habitamos y las fronteras entre ellos. Los personajes en estos cortos emprenden viajes de autodescubrimiento, e incluso de supervivencia, a veces elegidos y a veces impuestos; exploran límites sociales y geográficos que nos invitan a no dejar de hacerle preguntas al mundo en el que vivimos; y sobre todo, se cuestionan sus universos personales para alcanzar nuevas oportunidades. Los tres últimos años también se han caracterizado por una oleada de levantamientos sociales alrededor del mundo. Recordamos la edición de 2019 que asumimos el reto de realizar en el marco de intensas jornadas de protestas en Bogotá, con el ánimo de seguir construyendo sociedad fomentando la cultura, pero también comprometidos con hacer escuchar las voces que repudian la violencia y reclaman un país mejor, con la campaña #TodosTenemosUnaCámara, que invita a registrar no solo los episodios de abuso de poder sino también las valiosas expresiones de resistencia, creatividad y participación ciudadana que se vivieron en estos días, y que volvimos a sentir en el reciente paro nacional de 2021. En esa misma línea, convencidos del poder transformador del cine, y sobre todo del cortometraje, en esta edición queremos proponer una nueva categoría cinematográfica: Cine clase D: cine que representa la disidencia, desobediencia y la búsqueda de la democracia. Las películas de estos dos programas, y las que sentimos cumplen con esta categoría, reflexionan sobre la responsabilidad y los retos del activismo social y político, y revelan el poder de la protesta, aprovechando las posibilidades que ahora tenemos siempre a la mano para registrarla, y para usar consciente y creativamente el material de video fruto de la misma. La selección actual permite profundizar en recientes eventos de levantamiento en Chile, Francia, Rusia, Argelia, Brasil, Estados Unidos y Colombia, y crear un diálogo con valiosas lecciones de lucha del pasado. La muestra de la sección Especiales se complementa con dos programas retrospectivos. En conmemoración del Año Berlanga, que celebra los 100 años del nacimiento del mítico cineasta español José Luis García-Berlanga, presentamos cuatro de sus cortometrajes con la colaboración de la Filmoteca Española; una evidencia temprana de su gran habilidad para retratar crudas realidades de su país con el más entrañable humor. Asista también a la charla de BOGOSHORTS al tablero: ‘BERLANGA: Las carcajadas trágicas de un país’ el martes 14 de diciembre a las 11:00 a.m. en la Cinemateca de Bogotá, organizada con el apoyo de la Embajada de España en Colombia. Finalmente, nos unimos a la celebración del 50° aniversario de una de nuestros hogares desde nuestros inicios: la Cinemateca de Bogotá, que cumple medio siglo trabajando por el desarrollo audiovisual y cinematográfico de Colombia, a través de estrategias de formación, creación, exhibición, investigación de cine y otras expresiones audiovisuales, y la preservación del patrimonio cultural del país. Le hacemos homenaje presentando destacadas obras que se han beneficiado de sus estímulos para la producción de cortometrajes, que evidencian el compromiso de la Cinemateca de Bogotá con el formato corto y el talento de los cortometrajistas colombianos.
After two years of pandemic, which has confronted us with intense physical, social, economic and intellectual challenges within the framework of the so-called “new normal”, the #19BOGOSHORTS campaign poses the question: Where are we?, proposing a reflection on the state of reality to define our location (spatial, temporal, emotional!) to decide our next steps and embark on a journey of transformation. With this premise we have designed the two special programs ‘Crossed Borders’, with fiction, documentary and animation works about how we confront personal and social borders; and how we feel and interact with the history and nature of the spaces we inhabit and the borders between them. The characters in these short films undertake journeys of self-discovery, and even survival, sometimes chosen and sometimes imposed; they explore social and geographical boundaries that invite us to never stop asking questions of the world we live in; and above all, they question their personal universes in order to reach new opportunities. The last three years have also been characterized by a wave of social uprisings around the world. We remember the 2019 edition, when we took on the challenge of carrying out the festival in the context of intense days of protests in Bogota, with the spirit of continuing to build society by promoting culture, but also committed to making the voices that repudiate violence and demand a better country heard, with the campaign #TodosTenemosUnaCámara (“We all have a camera”), which invites everyone to record not only the episodes of abuse of power but also the valuable expressions of resistance, creativity and citizen participation that were experienced in these days, and that we felt again in the recent national strike of 2021. In the same vein, convinced of the transformative power of cinema, and especially of short films, in this edition we want to propose a new film category: Class D Films: cinema that represents dissidence, disobedience and the search for democracy. The films in these two programs, and those that we feel fit this category, reflect on the responsibility and challenges of social and political activism, and reveal the power of protest, taking advantage of the possibilities we now have at hand to record it, and to consciously and creatively use the video material resulting from it. The current selection allows us to delve into recent uprising events in Chile, France, Russia, Algeria, Brazil, the United States and Colombia, and to create a dialogue with valuable lessons of resistance from the past. The Specials section is complemented by two retrospective programs. In commemoration of the Berlanga Year, which celebrates 100 years since the birth of the legendary Spanish filmmaker José Luis García-Berlanga, we present four of his short films with support from Filmoteca Española; early evidence of his great ability to portray the harsh realities of his country with the most endearing humor. Finally, we join in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of one of our homes since our beginnings: Cinemateca de Bogotá, which accomplishes half a century working for the audiovisual and cinematographic development of Colombia, through strategies of training, creation, exhibition, research of film and other audiovisual expressions, and the preservation of the country’s cultural heritage. We pay tribute to it by presenting outstanding works that have benefited from its incentives for the production of short films, which demonstrate the commitment of Cinemateca de Bogotá to the short film format and the talent of Colombian short filmmakers.
