ecía Simon Sinek en alguna Ted Talk que la comunicación que parte desde lo que creemos y soñamos es la que arrastra. Bien decía Sinek que por algo Martin Luther King Jr. dijo “I have a dream” y no “I have a plan”. El porqué más poderoso de un proyecto viene siempre desde nuestro interior. Con el número de noviembre, este sueño llamado Time Contact cumple 17 años de editarse cada mes. A través de estos años hemos compartido los sueños de artistas, emprendedores, activistas, diplomáticos, deportistas, empresarios… personajes importantes para nuestra sociedad, bombardeada cada día de pesimismo, de noticias de corrupción, de violencia e impunidad. Para esta sociedad siempre ávida de recordar día a día la importancia de creer que un país puede ser mejor, que el mundo entero puede ser mejor y que por insignificante que parezca, lo que hacemos en nuestro pequeño espacio repercute en todo lo demás y que creer es crear.

Gracias a los locos que van por la vida creando belleza a cada paso, a los que rompen las reglas o rescatan tradiciones, a quienes pueden ver más alla de lo que la vista alcanza y maravillan al mundo con ideas innovadoras. Gracias a los que luchan como nadie por los derechos de otros y van tendiendo la mano a quienes lo necesitan. Gracias a todos los que a través de sus historias nos han inspirado.

Gracias por ayudarnos a seguir creyendo que el mundo puede ser un mejor lugar, por recordarnos que tenemos problemas, pero los problemas no nos tienen y que aun cuando la vida no siempre es facil, hasta en sus peores momentos encierra belleza si la sabemos ver. Gracias Time Contact por dejarnos contar las historias y saber en cada edición que hacemos lo que amamos.

The most powerful reason for a project always comes from within. With the November issue this dream called Time Contact gets to its 17th year of monthly editions. Through these years we have shared the dreams of artists, entrepreneurs, activists, diplomats, athletes, businessmen ... important characters for our society, bombarded every day with pessimism, news of corruption, violence, impunity. This society, always eager to remember every day the importance of believing that a country can be better, that the whole world can be better and that however insignificant it may seem, what we do in our small space has an impact on everything else and that believing is creating.

Thanks to the crazy ones who go through life creating beauty in every step of the way, to those who break the rules or rescue traditions. Thanks to the ones who dare to go further than what their eyes can see and amaze the world with innovative ideas. EEUU SUPERA SU RÉCORD HISTÓRICO DE DEUDA PÚBLICA USA OVERCOME HIS HISTO RICAL RECORD OF PUBLIC DEBT La deuda pública de EEUU supera los 23 billones lo que supone un aumento por encima del 100 % en menos de una década y más de un billón de dólares este año, según cifras del Departamento del Tesoro difundidas el viernes 1 de nov. Se trata de la cifra record en su historia. Casi 17 billones de dólares corresponden a deudas de ciudadanos de EEUU, el resto, 6 billones, a préstamos a organismos gubernamentales. La deuda de EEUU aumentó tras la crisis del 2008. Con la administración Trump se redujo levemente.

Así, en enero del 2017, la deuda nacional se estimaba en 19,899 billones de dólares. La reciente reforma fiscal la incrementó para finales del 2018 hasta 21,974 billones de dólares.

PONEN A PRUEBA UN PUENTE DISEÑADO POR DA VINCI HACE 500 AÑOS BRIDGE DESIGNED BY DA VINCI 500 YEARS AGO TESTED BY MIT ENGINEERS El sultán otomano Bayezid II solicitó propuestas para la construcción de un sólido puente de 280 m que conectara Estambul con su vecina Gálata. Uno de los proyectos fue de Leonardo da Vinci. 500 años después ingenieros del Instituto Tecnológico de Massachusetts han comprobado que el diseño habría funcionado. “Llevó mucho tiempo, pero la impresión 3D nos permitió recrear con precisión esa geometría tan compleja”, dice Karly Bast, líder del proyecto. El puente funcionó, se mantuvo sólido y estable sin necesidad de morteros o columnas de sujeción. El diseño concibió además una forma inusual de estabilizar la construcción contra movimientos laterales, que eran por entonces la causa principal de colapsos.

Ottoman Sultan Bayezid II requested proposals for the construction of a solid 280 m bridge connecting Istanbul with its neighboring Galata. One of the projects was presented by Leonardo da Vinci. 500 years later engineers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have proven that the design would have worked. “It took a long time, but 3D printing allowed us to accurately recreate its complex geometry”, says Karly Bast, project leader. HALLADA PRODUCCIÓN INDUSTRIAL DEL ANTIGUO EGIPTO INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION OF THE OLD EGYPT FINDINGS La época del máximo esplendor del Antiguo Egipto fue entre los siglos XVI-XIII a.C. En esos años se ubican los 30 increíbles talleres hallados en el Valle de Los Monos, un área de producción artesanal especializada del período del Imperio Nuevo de Egipto, según comunicó el Ministerio de Antigüedades del país. Se trata de una producción “a escala industrial” cerámica, anillos de metales preciosos, collares y muebles, destinados para la colocación en los enterramientos de la élite. Los arqueólogos descubrieron un gran horno, un tanque de agua y varios cuartos de almacenaje para los alimentos.

Al tiempo, las excavaciones más ambiciosas desde 1920, se desarrollan en el Valle de los Reyes. Esperan hallar las tumbas de los faraones de la Dinastía XVIII, que gobernó Egipto a inicios del período del Imperio Nuevo, entre los años 1550 y 1295 a.C.

MEXICANA CLAUDIA DE HEREDIA EMBAJADORA ONU PARA UN E-COMMERCE SIN BRECHA DE GÉNERO MEXICAN CLAUDIA DE HEREDIA APPOINTED AMBASSADOR FOR AN E-COMMERCE WITHOUT GENDER GAP La Conferencia de la Naciones Unidas sobre Comercio y Desarrollo –UNCTAD-, con el objetivo de acabar con la brecha de género en el ámbito digital, ha designado a siete mujeres alrededor del mundo como eTrade for Women Advocates. La iniciativa e-trade advocates tiene como misión aprovechar la inmediatez y deslocalización del e-commerce para generar una oportunidad de emprendimiento femenino con el ejemplo de mujeres ya referencia en este ámbito.

Entre ellas está Claudia de Heredia -Co-Founder de Kichink- mexicana y única latinoamericana designada por la ONU para esta misión de doble foco: acabar con la pobreza y con la desigualdad de género.

Ha dirigido más de cien orquestas sinfónicas por todo el mundo, desde la Orchestre de Paris hasta la London Philharmonic Orchestra pasando por la Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, ha publicado discos que han alcanzado el platino en ventas. Este fin de 2019 está siendo agitado para de la Parra.

Finaliza en noviembre su labor de directora musical de la Queensland Symphony Orchestra, afronta su segunda década viviendo en Berlín trabajando con la Opera y el Ballet de la capital germana, además en 2019 ha dirigido Romeo y Julieta, una de las obras más ambiciosos por su escenografía y mensaje atemporal. «

Time Contact - En toda tu experiencia, trabajando fuera y dentro de México, según la perspectiva con la que te perciben aquí y en el extranjero, ¿crees que existen dos Alondras de la Parra?

Alondra de la Parra - Creo que hay varias versiones en la que me perciben, porque la presencia que he tenido en mi país es muy distinta comparada por ejemplo con Alemania, donde llevo trabajando por más de 10 años con distintas orquestas. En México, por lo proyectos que he hecho como en el Bicentenario, colaboraciones con Ely Guerra y Natalia Lafourcade, son cosas extremadamente populares que han llegado a muchísima gente lo que lo hace distinto, por lo que sin duda hay una diferencia en México. Aquí también en Queensland, donde llevo 5 años trabajando siendo la directora titular de la orquesta, es diferente que en Estados Unidos o Francia. Hay muchas versiones de Alondra.

TC - ¿Con qué te sientes más identificada?

AP - Ahora vivo en Berlín, es un lugar donde disfruto mucho trabajar y donde me rodeo de muchos colegas, entre músicos y directores, y donde la música clásica es parte de la vida diaria de la mayoría de la gente, lo cual me parece extraordinario porque siento que la mayoría de la gente entiende lo que hago. No es una comparación con México, es simplemente una observación positiva de lo que siento ahí, y que no había sentido por muchos años en distintos países.

TC - Es llamativo ver los montajes que has realizado en México, incluso en España, donde llevaste un trabajo de bandas sonoras, cuestiones alejadas de la música clásica pero tamizadas por el sinfonismo, ¿en el sur todavía hay

que dar las cosas digeridas para plantarse con una orquesta sinfónica?

AP - No es así para nada, uno de los éxitos más grande que he tenido en México fue cuando lideré la segunda sinfonía de Gustav Mahler con la Orquesta Filarmónica de Londres en el Auditorio Nacional.

De igual manera en Madrid teníamos una temática alrededor de las películas con partituras sumamente serías como ‘La noche de los mayas’ de Silvestre Revueltas, que no se había escuchado en España desde hace décadas y un repertorio contemporáneo latinoamericano.

Incluso a mí me ha sorprendido positivamente en México la reacción que hay hacia el repertorio clásico contemporáneo.

TC - ¿Te sientes más cómoda frente a un público latino a la hora de plantear melodías más heterogéneas y no del repertorio clásico?

AP - Me siento cómoda con cualquier audiencia que tenga ganas de escuchar, disfrutar y que tenga un sentimiento de corazón abierto a lo que es la música. Depende de cada noche y cambia mucho según el ambiente y la energía independientemente de la música y el lugar.

TC - Rubén Gimeno dice que el director dictatorial pertenece a otro tiempo, ¿qué opinas al respecto?

AC - Totalmente de acuerdo, ahora vivimos otro mundo. Yo estoy ahí para servir a la música y servirles a los músicos, lo que se confundió en el pasado con una manera de liderar basada en el miedo y en maltratar, lo cual es totalmente caduco actualmente y definitivamente no existe. Hoy en día no es cómo pensamos los directores, ni cómo nos entrenaron y cualquier persona que lo intentara hacer de esa manera, no duraría. Hoy hablamos de una actitud de ser colegas, de hacer un equipo, de escuchar a los músicos

y de liderar de una manera muy distinta, aunque a veces es difícil y no funciona. Pero sí se requiere de un equipo muy sensible que entiendan muy bien las jerarquías y que estás jerarquías no son para enaltecer a una persona, sino para que el mecanismo funcione y la maquina avance y no para engrandecer los egos de las personas.

TC - En gran parte de tus producciones musicales has tenido un enfoque heterogéneo como compositora y productora de discos, si ahora tuvieras que plantear una producción musical grabada, ¿seguirías esa línea de lo heterogéneo o tu inclinación va hacia algo ortodoxo?

AP - Creo que se puede tomar una decisión de ese tipo que involucre ambas partes, entre lo heterogéneo y lo ortodoxo. Siempre busco las salidas en lo que hago, ya sea una canción popular, una sinfonía o un ciclo de canciones, y lo que busco es lo que puedo hacer en la calidad más alta o con qué artistas quiero colaborar, es lo que realmente va dictando las cosas que hago.

TC - Has sacado discos de motivos nacionalistas. Por la relación música, historia y nacionalismo, ¿pueden las orquestas resultar un militarismo cultural?

AP - Es algo que ha pasado en algún m o m e n t o, c o m o e n R u s i a . N o s o t ro s estamos muy lejos de eso en México y en mi experiencia nunca he visto una situación mínimamente similar de un entorno político, sino más bien cultural con un enfoque en promover la cultura en el país, y en ese sentido sí hay un nacionalismo.

TC - Hablando de la educación y su entorno en México, el primer día de clases en los colegios inauguran el ciclo escolar con una banda militar tocando marchas ¿Cuál es tu opinión sobre este detalle?

AP - No lo había pensado. Cuando estaba en la escuela era parte de la escolta y lo veo como una tradición nacional que hace que los niños se apeguen y forjen orgullo y una relación con su nación y sus símbolos patrios.

Fui en la escuela de hijos de refugiados españoles y a otra escuela que de alguna manera en ambas si había este tema de las escoltas, a pesar de que eran escuelas muy liberales que promovían el libre pensamiento con una educación liberal, laica, etc. No lo veo mal.

TC - ¿Cómo ves desde tu mundo específico, como mujer y directora de

actitud existía fuera del podio, ¿crees que el artista se mezcla con el personaje?

AC - La persona que está en el podio es la persona que estás viendo a través de la música y es lo que ves. Es donde salen todos tus defectos, cualidades, virtudes y eficiencias porque no hay manera de ocultar todo esto en el podio y eso es lo difícil y a su vez lo hermoso de las dificultades de aprender. Uno no puede estar en el podio pretendiendo ser alguien más porque siempre se tiene que superar y lo único que puede hacer uno es poder ser quien es.

Sin embargo, hay figuras muy controversiales como Beethoven, que escribió la música más hermosa y tenía gran talento, pero al saber más de su vida se dice mucho sobre su carácter bastante desagradable, de su poca ética con sus amigos y su familia. «

orquesta, las cuestiones de revisar actitudes de personajes célebres? ¿Dónde queda el bien y el mal?

AP - Está muy bien que todas las malas formas y las cosas que se permitían y no se debieron permitir salgan a la luz. Creo que lo que pasa ahora es un gran acierto hoy en día, porque nos da la oportunidad de reconfigurar cómo trabajamos, cómo somos como sociedad. Por supuesto que hay formas y hay exageraciones que salen de contexto por hacer un problema cuando no lo hay, pero es muy independiente a cada caso.

TC - Herbert von Karajan, uno de los más determinantes directores sinfónicos, cuando murió empezaron a salir polémicas sobre presuntos abusos. Viéndolo dirigir, ese torrente gestual que tenía, me pregunto qué tanto de esta

Time Contact - In all your experience, working in Mexico and abroad, according to the perspective with which people perceive you here and in other countries, Do you think there are two Alondras the Parra?

Alondra de la Parra - I think there are several versions in which they perceive me, because the presence that I have had in my country is very different to the one in Germany, where I have been working for more than 10 years with different orchestras. In Mexico, because of the projects I have done as in the Bicentennial, collaborations with Ely Guerra and Natalia Lafourcade, these are extremely popular things that have reached many people, which makes it different, so there is certainly a difference in Mexico. Here in Queensland, where I have been working for 5 years conducting the orchestra, and it is also different in the United States or France so according to each place many things change without a doubt and in the same way there are many versions of Alondra.

TC - What do you feel most identified with?

AP - At present I live in Berlin, a place where I enjoy working a lot and where I am surrounded by many colleagues, between musician and directors, and where classical music is part of the daily life of most people, which I think is extraordinary because I feel that most people understand what I do. I am not comparing it to Mexico, it is simply a positive observation of what I feel there that I had not felt for many years in other countries.

TC - It is striking to look at the productions you have done in Mexico, even in Spain, where you took soundtrack pieces far from classical music and turned them into symphonic works , do you still have to give digested things the south hemisphere to be able to stand there with a symphonic orchestra?

AP - It's not like that at all, one of the biggest successes I have had in Mexico was when I conducted Gustav Mahler's second symphony with the London Philharmonic Orchestra at the National Auditorium. Similarly in Madrid concert based on soundtrack pieces featured extremely serious works like The Night of the Maya by Silvestre Revueltas, which had not been heard in Spain for decades and a contemporary Latin American repertoire. Even in Mexico I was positively surprised at the reaction to the contemporary classical repertoire.

TC - Do you feel more comfor table in front of a Latin audience when it comes to playing more heterogeneous melodies and not the classical repertoire?

AP - I feel comfortable with any audience that wants to listen, enjoy and with an open heart attitude to what music is. It depends on each night and it changes a lot according to the environment and energy regardless of the music and the place.

TC - Rubén Gimeno says that dictatorial directors belong to another time, what do you think about it?

AP - I Totally agree, now we live in another world. I am here to serve the music and to serve the musicians, which was confused in the past with a way of conducting based on fear and abuse, which is totally outdated today and definitely does not exist. It is not how conductors think today, or how we were trained and anyone who tries to do it that way, would not last. Today we talk about an attitude of being colleagues, of making a team, of listening to musicians and of conducting in a very different way, although sometimes it is difficult and it does not work. But it does require a very sensitive team that understands hierarchies very well and that these hierarchies are not to exalt a person, but to make the mechanism work so the machine

can move forward and not to enlarge people's egos.

TC - In many of your musical productions you have showed an heterogeneous approach both as a composer and record producer, if you now had to put together a recorded musical production now, would you follow that line of the heterogeneous or would you incline towards something less orthodox?

AP - I think that such a decision can be made involving both parties, the heterogeneous and the least orthodox. I always look for outputs in what I do, be it a popular song, a symphony or a cycle of songs. What dictates the things I do is what I can do in the highest quality and according to the artists I want to work with.

TC - Considering the relationship between music, history and nationalism, do you think orchestras be a cultural militarism?

AP - It is something that has happened at times, as in Russia, but we are very far from that in Mexico and in my experience I have never seen a minimally similar situation in the political environment, however there is a focus on promoting culture in the country, and in that sense there is a nationalism.

TC - Speaking of education and its environment in Mexico, the first day of school classes open the school year with a military band playing marches. What is your opinion about this?

AP - When I was in school I was part of the escort and I see it as a national tradition that allows children to become attached and to develop a sense of pride and a relationship with their country and their national symbols. I went to a school of Spanish refugees children and then to another one and in some way there was this issue of escorts in both schools, although they were very liberal schools that promoted free thinking and a liberal, secular education, etc.

TC - How do you see from your specific world, as a woman a n d o r c h e s t r a c o n d u c t o r, t h e q u e s t i o n s o f r e v i e w i n g attitudes of famous people? Where is good and evil?

AP - It is very good that all bad forms and behaviours that were allowed that should not have been allowed to come to light. I think what is happening now is a great success, because it gives us the opportunity to reconfigure the way in which we work, how we are as a society. Of course there are forms and there are exaggerations that go totally out of context creating a problem when there is none, but that is very independent of each case.

TC - Herbert von Karajan, one of the most decisive symphonic directors, when he died, controversies began about alleged abuse. Seeing him conducting, with that gestural torrent he had, I wonder how much of this attitude existed outside the podium, do you think the artist mixes with the character?

AP - The person on the podium is the person you are seeing through music and it is what you see. It is where all your defects, qualities, virtues and efficiencies come out because there is no way to hide all this on the podium and that is the difficulty and in turn the beauties of learning difficulties. You cannot be on the podium pretending to be someone else because and all you can do is be who you are. However, there are very controversial figures like Beethoven, who wrote the most beautiful music and had great talent, but when we learn more about him, his life says a lot about his rather unpleasant character his unethical behaviour with his friends and family. «

¿Qué se juega en el México Open 19?

Todo. El último antes del Master final y hay 10 jugadores en menos de mil puntos sin un ganador claro. La semana pasada ganaron Sanyo y Maxi, los número uno actualmente, pero llevaban seis torneos sin llegar a semis. ¿Cuáles son las países donde el pádel es más fuerte?

España y Argentina. En México se inventó, en Acapulco, en casa de la familia Corcuera, su hija Virginia es parte del Open. ¿Qué posibilidades de crecimiento tiene el pádel?

Enorme. En España por ejemplo es el segundo deporte más practicado con licencias, antes la gente jugaba pádel tras practicar tenis, ya no. Se ha ido extendiendo el circuito profesional a países como Suecia. El pádel está más formado de jugadores que de aficionados, eso le da inmensas posibilidades.

Eres un empresario del deporte, ¿cómo ves el negocio del deporte?

Está concentrado en el futbol, pero hay en México deportes de nicho de gran crecimiento, basket, pádel… con grandes valores de marca. ¿Cuál es la actitud de las empresas con estos deportes?

Todo es una cuestión de retorno, no solo dinero, están los valores de marca, ahí es donde crecemos.

Banco Sabadell por ejemplo, apoya este México Open 19. Yo relaciono Banco Sabadell con raqueta, patrocinan el Godo, a Nadal.

Para la financiación de proyectos, ¿que sean deportivos lo facilita?

Hay muchas historias de éxito que lo facilitan, la curva de aprendizaje es corta. En el caso de Banco Sabadell y este torneo de pádel, apuestan por valores reconocibles con ellos: nuevos talentos, rapidez, flexibilidad... ¿El crédito qué facilita en eventos deportivos de esta índole?

Mucho, pues la estructura es grande. Estamos montando un estadio de cero, con estándares internacionales, vuelos, hoteles, streaming del evento… Es un evento privado, todo sale de nuestros recursos. Que un banco sea diligente en dar créditos a estos proyectos caros es clave. ¿Va a haber más años de Open México?

Al menos tres ediciones y en marzo haremos una exhibición en Mérida. Vamos a extender el pádel por México. «

What is played in the Mexico Open 19?

Are sports projects easier for getting finance?

There are many success stories that make it easier, the learning curve is short. In the case of Banco Sabadell and this paddle tournament, they bet on recognizable values they relate to: new values, speed, flexibility...

How does credit support you in sporting events of this nature?

A lot, since we need a big structure. We are setting up a stadium from zero, with international standards, flights, hotels, streaming of the event...

It is a private event, everything comes from our resources. A bank diligent in giving credits for these expensive projects is key.

Do you see more years of the Mexico open?

At least three editions and in March we will have an exhibition in Mérida. We are going to extend paddle throughout Mexico. «

Volví a Lima después de varios años, de sorpresa, sin que nadie supiera, pero en realidad la sorpresa me la llevé yo.

Estaba caótica, como siempre, pero esta vez era diferente, todo el mundo estaba de fiesta; festejaban las Fiestas Patrias y se sentían una vibra y energía, que no puedo describir con palabras.

De pronto me invadió el sentimiento de patriotismo que tenía dormido, como anestesiado, sin darme cuenta. « I returned to Lima after several years of being away, without telling anyone since I wanted to surprise them, but the truth is it was me who was taken by surprise. The city was chaotic, as usual, but this time it was different, everyone was in a good mood, celebrating the national independence and I felt a vibe and energy, I cannot describe in words. Al aterrizar en el Aeropuerto Internacional Jorge Chávez, había muchos extranjeros y delegaciones de diferentes países llegando, se celebraban los Juegos Panamericanos.

Pero en realidad nada había cambiado, era como retroceder en el tiempo, el aeropuerto sigue igual, en el aire se respiraba ese mismo olor que no puedo explicar ni describir, que me llenó de nostalgia y entrañables recuerdos de mi juventud, cuando trabajaba allí para una aerolínea importante.

En Lima nunca llueve, solo sale sol de noviembre hasta marzo y no todo el tiempo. Es una ciudad sumida en una neblina constante con habitual llovizna. Así me recibió, el cielo cubierto de nubes y gris…pero qué limeño no extraña su cielo gris…ya es parte de uno.

El taxista que me llevó del aeropuerto a mi casa era un típico peruano bonachón, simpático, tenía la radio puesta a todo volumen, por la hora calculo que aún no había tomado desayuno o café, pero estaba sorprendentemente alegre a pesar del tráfico terrible que nos rodeaba, cantando La Flor de La Canela, a todo pulmón, con descaro, sin tener vergüenza, como si estuviera solo, sin importar si cantaba bien o mal. Yo lo miraba de reojo cuidadosamente sin que se diera cuenta, con una mirada cómplice y desde mis adentros yo también cantaba a gritos pero en silencio… ¡nunca disfruté tanto estando en un taxi!

Lima es llamada también la Ciudad de los Reyes, tradición y modernidad conviven en cada rincón. Su centro histórico, patrimonio de la humanidad, se caracteriza por su bella

arquitectura e iglesias, como la Catedral, la más antigua y grande de la ciudad, de estilo renacentista y neoclásico, sus museos, sus sitios arqueológicos y sus casonas con balcones. Siempre se habla de Machu Picchu como referencial de Perú, pero pocos saben que Lima, la capital de este país, es un centro que derrocha cultura, diversión y sobretodo ¡gastronomía! Lima se debe visitar con el tenedor en la mano. Sus calles ofrecen exquisitos platos para todos los bolsillos. Estando frente al mar, la comida marina es un clásico que no te puedes perder. Su cocina es considerada una de las mejores de América Latina por su multiculturalidad, enorme calidad y variedad de platillos.

Perú ha sido galardonado por 7 años consecutivos como ‘Mejor destino culinario del mundo’. Ceviches, causas, chupes y tiraditos no deben faltar en tu lista de platillos por probar. Por supuesto acompañados de un buen Pizco Sour. Hay muchos restaurantes que recomendar, como Maido y Central, Rafael, Astrid & Gastón y El Mercado entre otros. Algunos requieren reservar hasta con 6 meses de anticipación por su alta reputación internacional.

La noche en Lima es probablemente el mejor momento para explorar la ciudad. En el magnífico Parque de la Reserva, se puede observar El Circuito Mágico del Agua, uno de los espectáculos nocturnos más impresionantes que haya visto, con un Record Guinness por ser el complejo de fuentes más altas del mundo en un parque público.

culturales, comerciales y turísticos de la ciudad de Lima, y cerca de Larcomar, un centro comercial a orillas del océano pacifico, donde puedes ver a los surfistas domar las olas y los atardeceres más lindos.

Barranco, es la zona bohemia de Lima por ser el lugar de residencia de muchos artistas locales y compositores como la gran Chabuca Granda. Antiguamente fue un poblado de pescadores, con el tiempo, se fue convirtiendo en el lugar de veraneo de las familias de clase alta. La arquitectura de 1920 de las mansiones Art Deco y los frondosos bulevares forman parte de su atractivo. Aquí se encuentran algunos de los museos más importantes de Lima. Una noche paseando por ahí me detuve ante El Puente de los Suspiros, llamado

así por ser el escenario por el que más amantes de todas las épocas han pasado. Recordé lo que dice la tradición, “a quien por primera vez ve el puente y lo cruce sin respirar, se le cumplirá el deseo que pida” y lo crucé conteniendo la respiración más que pude, contemplando y sintiendo ese ambiente bohemio artístico y romántico sentí que mi deseo se cumpliría.

Un solo viaje jamás es suficiente para disfrutar las maravillas que el Perú ofrece. Viajar a Perú es despertar sueños pendientes, conectarse con uno mismo, y adentrarse en 5 mil años de historia viva…pero es real, está allí presente y omnipotente… y esperando que vengas a conocerlo. «

Upon landing at the Jorge Chavez International Airport, I saw many foreigners and delegations from different countries arriving for the Pan American Games. But the real thing is nothing had changed, it was like going back in time. The airport is still the same, and you can still breath the same smell that I cannot explain, which filled me with nostalgia and endearing memories of my youth, when I worked for an important airline.

Since it was very early I assumed he had not yet had breakfast or coffee, but he was still surprisingly cheerful, despite the terrible traffic that surrounded us, singing La Flor de La Canela, loudly, with impudence, without being ashamed, as if he were alone, regardless of whether he sang well or badly. I gazed at him sideways, without him realizing it, with an accomplice look and inside of me I was also singing loudly but silently ... I never enjoyed being in a taxi so much!

To make the most of your trip, It is advisable to stay in the central district of Miraflores, one of the cultural, commercial and tourist districts of the city very close to Larcomar, a shopping center on the shores of the Pacific Ocean, where you can see the surfers tame the waves and the most beautiful sunsets.

Si pudieras describir tu vida en tres capítulos que nos dijeran quién eres ¿qué dirías?

Capítulo uno educación académica, estudié francés, alemán y tomé un curso de español, en Salamanca, así que aprendí un español muy castizo, pero ahora he aprendido algunas expresiones mexicanas “está chido” (ríe) y voy a usarla mucho.

Capítulo dos mi faceta de deportista.

Capítulo tres, en el que estoy ahora, usando la plataforma de atleta retirada para trabajar por la inclusión y la igualdad. Los primeros dos capítulos son totalmente acerca de mi, este se trata más acerca de otros. ¿Cómo empezaste a nadar?

Aunque nací en el Reino Unido, de los 6 a 8 años viví en El Cairo, por el trabajo de mi papá, y ahí aprendí a nadar en el mar, básicamente porque era la mejor manera de refrescarnos. ¿Fue difícil crecer con una discapacidad?, probablemente encontraste mucha gente que te dijera que había cosas que nunca ibas a hacer.

Lo más importante para mi fue crecer con padres que me dijeron “no eres diferente a los demás y puedes hacer lo que quieras” y entonces creces pensando que es así. Por supuesto que encontré mucha gente que me dijo eso pero me encantaba demostrarles que estaban equivocados. ¿Cuándo empiezas a competir?

A los 25 años, siempre nadé regularmente como hobby, y sabía que lo hacía bien, pero fue hasta que conocí a un entrenador en Londres que me dijo “creo que deberías competir”. Fue él quien vio mi potencial, creyó en mi y me ayudo a hacerlo y ahí empezó todo. ¿Si miras atrás en el tiempo, crees que ha habido avances significativos en el tema de inclusión de personas discapacitadas y la manera en que vemos la discapacidad?

Creo que ha habido avances, sin embargo depende del país del que hablemos. En algunos lugares sigue siendo un tema escabroso, hace falta un cambio cultural, muchas veces la gente no sabe qué decirte, temen ofenderte y lo importante es poner el tema en la mesa y encontrar diferentes maneras de integración social. La discapacidad es un tema muy amplio y aún hay mucho por hacer.

Hoy que estás retirada del deporte, ¿cuál es el trabajo que realizas como consejera en el British Council?

El British Council es una agencia del Gobierno del Reino Unido, trabajé con ellos y cuando me fui, me pidieron que me quedara como consejera externa. He trabajado para lograr políticas que prevengan el acoso a los atletas, consiguiendo financiamiento privado para que no solo dependan de los fondos del gobierno. Hoy en día trabajo en proyectos con 112 países, escuchando y compartiendo mi experiencia con jóvenes líderes del futuro en sus proyectos. También soy embajadora de la ´Marine Conservation Society´ porque amo el mar, fue ahí donde aprendí a nadar. ¿Qué hay en el futuro para Susie Rodgers?

If you could describe your life in 3 chapters that would tell us who you are, what would you say?

Chapter one academic education, I studied French, German and took a Spanish course, in Salamanca, so I learned a very traditional Spanish, but now I have learned some Mexican expressions "it is cool" (laughs) and I will use it a lot. Chapter two my facet as an athlete.

Chapter three, in which I am now, using the retired athlete platform to work for inclusion and equality. The first two chapters are totally about me, this is more about others.

How did you start swimming?

Although I was born in the UK, from 6 to 8 years old I lived in Cairo, because of my dad's work, and there I learned to swim in the sea, basically because it was the best way to cool off.

Was it difficult to grow up with a disability? You probably found many people who told you there were things you would never be able to do.

The most important thing for me was to grow up with parents who told me “you are not different from others and you can do what you want” cause I grow up thinking that. Of course I found many people who told me that, but I loved to prove them wrong.

When did you start competing?

At 25, I always swam regularly as a hobby, and I knew I was good, but it was not until I met a coach in London who said "I think you should compete." That I decide to do it. It was him who saw my potential, believed in me and helped me to do it.

Looking back in time, do you think there has been significant progress in the social inclusion of disabled people and the way we see disability?

I think there has been progress, however it depends on the country we are talking about. In some places it is still a rough issue, we need a cultural shift. Many times people do not know what to say to you, they are afraid to offend you. The important thing is to put the subject on the table in order to find different ways of social integration. Disability is a very broad topic and there is still much to do.

Today that you are retired from sports, what is your job as a counselor for the British Council?

The British Council is an agency of the UK Government, I worked with them and when I left, they asked me to stay as an external advisor. I worked to achieve policies that prevent harassment of athletes, getting them funds so that they not only depend on government help.

Today I work on projects with 112 countries,as a speaker, listening to young leaders projects and sharing my experience with them. I am also an ambassador of the Marine Conservation Society because I love the sea, it was there where I learned to swim.
