Message From Your LTG Hoot, hoot, Mama Owl here! My term is almost halfway over, and it is honestly so mind blowing. Our first-ever sunset DCM was an absolute success! We were able to showcase some of the most talented owls and raised $248 for the Texas-Oklahoma District, which goes straight to the relief efforts for Hurricane Harvey. Amazing job, owls. By doing this, we made a huge impact on a community in need. Fall Rally season has begun, and the owls are ready! I am very excited to spend the next two months getting the division ready to take the rally by storm. The next two months will also be very busy for Key Club as a whole! Not only is Fall Rally quickly approaching, the deadlines for division shirts and membership dues are coming up as well. I know that with all of the events that happen during fall, it will get very overwhelming, but don't forget to serve your community. Stay involved on the club and division level! I cannot wait to meet all of the new D38W members! With Wings of Service, Aubrey Gilman Division 38 West Lieutenant Governor

AUGUST DCM: COLOR WAR

On August 20th, Key Clubbers of Division 38 West gathered at Marie Kerr Park for yet another fun DCM! As always, there were several announcements, icebreakers, and club reports; The main event, however, was the color war! Everybody was divided into 5 teams according to the colored powder they had. It seemed like everyone was having the time of their lives, laughing as they chased after their friends to throw powder at them. After the color war, new groups were formed to do a relay race. First, they'd come up with their team name and handshake/dance move. The race itself was quite unique, with tasks such as flipping a water bottle and doing a 4 man pushup! The August DCM was not only for a good time, but also a good cause. Participants paid $5 each for admission (which included a bag of colored powder) to fundraise for the Pediatric Trauma Program. This was immensely successful, bringing in over $360! Thank you to everyone who attended the DCM and made it possible to raise

Thank you to all those that attended the September DCM to honor the victims of all of the recent natural disasters. More to come in the next issue.

Recognitions Member of the Month: Natali Josevska For the month of September, Quartz Hill chose Natali Josevska as the member of the month! As a sophomore, she has been with the Key Club ohana since the beginning of her high school years. Natali is always the first one to ask about service opportunities, and her passion towards serving brings happiness to Quartz Hill’s Key Club. She participates in almost all of our fundraisers, DCMs, and service project opportunities. Right now, Natali is very hyped about attending her 2nd fall rally! As one of the lower classmen, we cannot wait to see her accomplishments in the future! Natali is an essential member of our club, and we are excited to see her love for this organizations grow beyond the limit.

Officer of the Month: Dean Payne D38W's officer of the month is Dean Payne, one of the three spirit coordinators on the Division Leadership Team! Dean shows his passion for the club through his involvement and attitude towards the club. He always has a smile on his face during our weekly meetings, which Dean never misses. He is also an integral part of the DLT and we appreciate all the work he has done to support his friends. Whether he is leading a spirit session or introducing Key Clubbers to each other through an ice breaker, Dean's immense effort has left a huge impact on our ohana and we hope to see his role in this organization grow.

Faculty Advisor of the Month: Ms. Kaitlin Huerta Ms. Huerta is always supportive, kind, encouraging, and helpful in everything we do! She generously gives up her classroom and her time to hold numerous meetings, and she is always quick to respond to our requests and concerns. Ms. Huerta is also a great example of servant leadership for her members and students to look up to!

Kiwanis Advisor of the Month: Mr. Richard Olmstead

Mr. Olmstead is always a reliable adult for Paraclete to turn to when questions or concerns arise. This month, he was very timely about responding to concerns about chaperones for the DCM. Additionally, he helped guide Paraclete through the process of being a Duck Buddy, which was new to all of Paraclete's members. Overall, Mr. Olmstead is supportive, caring, trustworthy, and definitely deserving of recognition! 9

Spotlight on Service October Focus: Pediatric Trauma Program

The Pediatric Trauma Program develops local projects that reduce the number of children killed or injured by trauma, helping all children live hoppy, healthy, and safe lives.

Event Ideas: Decorating Bicycle Helmets: Decorating bicycle helmets is a great way to bring families together. Children can create playful designs on their helmets so that they will like wearing them.

Glow Stick Distribution: Walk around on Halloween with glow sticks and hand them out to children. They will make the children visible as they cross the streets from house to house. 10

FundraisINg Ideas: Lemonade Stand: Since a majority of CNH is hot and sunny, have a lemonade stand at your local park or beach! Make sure to inform people that you are raising money for PTP and what it’s all about! All you need is a table and some lemonade. Boba Fundraiser: A fun fundraiser that many clubs and divisions hold is boba fundraisers! Contact your local boba shop to set up a fundraiser and donate proceeds towards the Pediatric Trauma Program. Pie Smash: This is a fun fundraiser where members can pie officers! This fundraiser is easy for both clubs and division! Get some empty pie trays and fill them with whip cream! Have members donate 2-6 dollars towards the cause. Written by the CNH Service Projects Committee

DNE's Closing Message Hey Owls! I hope you’ve all been having the most amazing September! I’m so glad that you all had a blast at the September Sunset Jam and that we were able to fundraise so much money for Hurricane Harvey. All of the natural disasters that have been going on around the world are extremely saddening, and I’m happy that the Owls were able to contribute in some way. You should all be proud of yourselves for doing what you do best: coming together as a division and making a difference in the community. Thank you all for always being ready to lend a helping hand, whether it is here in the Antelope Valley or anywhere in the world. I'll see you all very soon! Until next time, Owls! ~ Mariah Hernandez Division News Editor
