Message From Your LTG Hoot, hoot! Mama Owl here! It’s February, owls! The month of LOVE. The only thing on my mind this Valentine’s Day was my owls. I hope that, though we couldn’t join together as a division, you were spreading all of the kindness and joy that I know your hearts contain. We only have two more months together in the 2017-2018 term and I just want you all to know that you are on my mind every single day. We need to finish off the year strong! This can be shown by your attendance at DCON and at our end of the year celebrations! The DLT and I can’t wait to commemorate all that you have accomplished during this term. This time is very bittersweet, not only because our seniors will be leaving, but also because this chapter of D38W is coming to an end. I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for this division and I hope you all realize the impact that we have made over the past ten months. I can’t wait to see all of your smiling faces again. Much love, Aubrey Gilman

January DCM and Conclave Recap

January 20th, 2018 was a big day for Division 38 West, for it was the day their next Lt. Governor would be selected! Key Clubbers from 8 different clubs in their division gathered at Little Rock High School for their January DCM and Conclave. During the DCM, Lt. Governor Aubrey Gilman informed everyone about news in the division and presidents reported what they had done in the past month, per usual. The Owls also discussed plans for the end of the year banquet and a possible beach clean up. After the DCM was finished, it was time for the Conclave to commence. The two candidates this year were Mariah Hernandez and Audrey Limb, both of whom are juniors from Quartz Hill High School. Mariah currently serves as the Division News Editor, while Audrey Limb serves as the Executive Assistant: Secretary.

Each of the candidates were given a set time to deliver speeches on why they should be chosen to serve as the next Lieutenant Governor. They were also able to answer questions the delegates or audience members had in that time. After hearing what the candidates had to say, the audience was able to discuss their thoughts and opinions. Then, those who were delegates of their school cast their votes. Once the votes were counted, Lt. Governor Aubrey Gilman announced that Mariah Hernandez had been elected to serve as the 2018-2019 Lieutenant Governor for Division 38 West! Thank you to all those who attended and participated in the process of electing our new Mama Owl!

Recognitions Member of the Month: Giselle Zamuido

It is an honor to recognize Giselle Zamuido as member of the month! Giselle is a freshman at Soar and actively participated in every event this month. She had soared greatly by attending every meeting, repainting the adult health care center, making Valentine's day cards for the senior center, and passing the cards out as well. Giselle stood out this month because of her heart to serve the community. She went above and beyond this month by even becoming a Thirst Project, the world's largest youth water organization, ambassador where she helped spread awareness of the global water crisis and helped raise $120 to build water wells in one minute, which is amazing because she helped saved 4 people's lives! Giselle Zamuido is a outstanding leader and we are thrilled to have her in this club because we know she will accomplish extraordinary things.

Officer of the Month: Mackenzie Fernandez

This month, Tech Editor Mackenzie Fernandez has continued to show her dedication for Key Club by working extra hard during Paraclete’s Love Week. She helped pass out flowers and cut, label, and post Valentine’s hearts for the student body. Mackenzie never fails to exceed our expectations, and we are so proud of her!

Kiwanis Advisor of the Month: Mr. Richard Olmstead

As always, Mr. Olmstead has been a source of consistent, invaluable support for all of the clubs in Division 38 West. He is always available to answer questions and provide guidance when needed. This month, he took time out of his busy schedule to come to schools to meet with the presidents and faculty advisors to go over DCON costs. We are very appreciative of everything Mr. Olmstead does for us!

Faculty Advisor of the Month: Mrs. Agnew

It is an honor to recognize Mrs. Agnew of SOAR High School as advisor of the month! Mrs. Agnew has opened our eyes and hearts to just keep striving. No matter how we are feeling, she is always inspiring us on how we are capable of being the change we want to see. She is very supportive and we couldn't have survived in this club this year without her. It is her first year being an advisor for Key Club, however, it feels like she has been apart of our Ohana for a lifetime now. Mrs. Agnew has been attending all our service projects with us and helps us discover new ones as well. The board and club are so thankful to have her as advisor and knows she will help our club grow even further! 9

DNE'S Closing Message Hey Owls! This past month has brought about one of the greatest blessings in my life: being elected as your 2018-2019 Lieutenant Governor! I truly cannot begin to express the gratitude I am feeling towards all of you for giving me the opportunity to lead us into a year full of successes, love, and service! I thank you all so much for your support throughout my entire term and always motivating me to serve with my all. Being your Division News Editor has been so amazing and I cannot wait to be your Lieutenant Governor. I’m beyond excited to see just how high we can soar this year! Thank you for being so good to me and congratulating me on this achievement, it means the world knowing that you guys are just as prospective as I am for this upcoming term. I genuinely hope I can be as great of a Mama Owl as Aubrey Gilman. She has led us into countless accomplishments this year and has been one of the biggest, most loving supporters; Aubrey definitely helped me get the confidence I needed to even run and continues to give me the confidence I need going into the LTG-elect life. I’m happy I was able to chase after this dream of mine and I hope you all know that no matter how far-fetched your dreams may seem (and trust me, I thought being LTG would never happen for me), you can do it! As long as you put in all of your effort and passion, you can do anything! Also, if you ever feel like you don’t have anyone in your corner, remember that your entire Ohana is right there: including me! I love you all more than you can ever know and I thank you, again, from the bottom of my heart for everything. Until next month, Owls!
