(A _M_ES_S_A_G_E_ F_R_O_M_ O_U_R _L_T_G) JASON BARAJAS

WOOO! Happy Summer Owls! I am more than excited for the events and projects that will be taking place this upcoming sizzling summer! For starters, I would like to thank most of our secretary’s for staying on task with their Monthly Report Form’s and turning them in on time! Please remember that if it is not filled out, your club cannot receive a majority of “Owl Points” that can be attained. Also, another big thank you to our Presidents for keeping up good communication and turning in their Member of the Month submissions! Knowing that we are all in summer vacation now, I would like to encourage all of our clubs to remember that although school is out, there is never a break from community service! The opportunities are endless, so go out there and take advantage by helping our community! I hope to see you all at our upcoming summer events and remember that you are more than encouraged to bring your friends or incoming freshmen to invite them into our D38W Owl Ohana! Oh yeah, and … L-O-V-E I LOVE MY D-I-V! Happy readings! P.S. Remember to check your email weekly for division updates and reminders!

a letter from the editor WHAT’S UP OWLS?! I hope everyone is having a spectacular summer vacation! What have you guys been up to? Are you partying it up? Spending time with family or friends? Staying home and watching Netflix or spending time on the internet all day (pretty much me)? OR are you out there helping the community!? Although school is out, I’d like to reiterate what Jason has said and tell you that there is always the opportunity to go out and help the community whenever you’re not busy! Anyways, thanks for taking the time to read the July issue of The Owl Post and I hope you guys enjoy it! I’d also like to remind members that if you had a fun experience at a Key Club event, write an article! Articles don’t take long to write, needing only a few sentences about your experience, and will be featured in the newsletter if you send them on time (the 15th of every month). If you have any make sure to send them to the email: d38w.cnhkc.divtech@gmail.com! See you guys next month! MAY DCM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE ON THE AWARDS DCM

By Sarah Samdin from Highland High School

The May DCM was a bittersweet experience. It marked the end of the term of the incredible IP LTG, Cecilia Nguyen and the exciting start of our new LTG, Jason Barajas. It was great to see all of the D38W’s BEE-AUTIFUL owls before the start of an exciting and service packed summer and term! I am so proud of everyone that earned an award and cannot wait to see how much they can achieve this new term! By Alexandra Janassen from Lancaster High

This May, I attended the monthly DCM/Owl Awards. While there, many Division 38 West Key Clubs received various awards honoring their achievements. As usual for every DCM, I had a great time seeing old friends and making new ones. It is always amazing to see how much every club has grown. Saying goodbye to Cecilia Nguyen was touching. She supported me in my term as Secretary for Lancaster High School and encouraged me to go further in Key Club. As we end another school year, we say thank you to all the past leaders for their service!

Reading to the Children!

By Kim Ma from Highland High School

On July 3rd, Jeanie Paek and I went to Anaverde to read to two kindergarten classes and donate books to the class. The kids loved their new books and being read to and seeing the smiles on their faces was heart warming. I hope to go back soon and spend time with those amazing kids and bond with them more.

Volunteering at Thunder on the Lot! By Joshua Solis from Quartz Hill High School

My experience at the Thunder on the Lot service project was really fun! I had a great time with the awesome members that went. I didn’t expect it to be so exciting because it was my first time. At first I thought it would be boring but before I knew it, we were already done! That’s how fun it was! So over all it was an awesome hangout with my fellow Key Clubbers from Quartz Hill doing something good for the community and my home club!
