Message From Your LTG HOW DID I GET SO LUCKY TO SERVE SUCH A WONDERFUL DIVISION?! Let me start with the Awake-A-Thon. This had to be my favorite division event of the year! We stayed awake for 13 brutal (for some of you) hours playing dodgeball, capturing the flag, dancing to throwbacks, shooting hoops, trying not to fall asleep, chanting our hearts out, watching a dead bird come back to life, and so much more. We raised over $900 for PTP with this fundraiser alone, can you believe it? Now, onto Fall Rally. Pfrsd (post Fall Rally South depression) REALLY hit me hard this year Owls, not only because it was my last Fall Rally after four years of key clubbing, but because I have made so many beautiful friendships with you all and it really dawned on me that I won't be seeing all of your smiling faces around this time next year. Division 38 West, you all make me so proud to serve as your lieutenant governor! Not only did we take home the coveted Spirit Stick, but we raised over 1.4 thousand dollars for PTP, surpassing our division goal of $1000!!! Fall Rally not only highlighted D38W's passion but your true dedication to this organization. I can't wait to see where the rest of this term takes us. I hope that it only goes up from here! In two months, you will be choosing your next LTG, and in six months, I will retire. I want to cherish these final months with you all and really give my last year everything that I've got. I hope that we can grow closer as an Ohana and continue to better our division. 38 West, thank you for everything. You truly make me the happiest I've ever been. With Wings of Service, Aubrey Gilman 3

Mario PaRTC

On October 19th, D38W partnered with D38E to hold their joint Mario PaRTC at Serrano High School! Members and officers of each division came out to listen to a variety of presentations from the divisions’ DLTs and LTGs, and even LTGs from Region 5! Attendees learned about what it takes to be a good Key Clubber, how to promote events, working with their Kiwanis Family, and much more! Following the presentations and lunch, the divisions separated into teams and played some games, one of which included making their LTGs dresses out of toilet paper (which the Spartans won)! Then, the divisions held their separate spirit sessions and later came together for an intense spirit battle (and this time, the Owls came out on top)! After many photos were taken of the entire group and everything had been cleaned up, the Owls and the Spartans went home inspired, spirited, and a bit tired. Thank you to everyone who attended RTC and all of our guest speakers!Â

Awake-A-Thon The weekend before Fall Rally, D38W hosted their first ever Awake-A-Thon as their November DCM at the Palmdale Aerospace Academy! All participants brought about $10 as pledge to stay up for 13 hours from 7AM to 7PM (the extra hour coming from Daylight Savings). All of the proceeds, which amounted to a grand total of over $900, went to straight to PTP! The night commenced with the DCM, an icebreaker that called for signatures from many people, and a spirit session that was judged by our chaperones. Then, to show appreciation for the chaperones who dedicated their night to this event, the Owls made them all thank you cards. Throughout the rest of the night, a variety of games were played, such as dodgeball, tug of war, glow-in-the-dark capture the flag, musical men, and much more team-building exercises. At around 6 AM, everyone went outside and enjoyed the beautiful sunrise. After, it was finally time to clean-up and go home to get some shuteye. The Awake-A-Thon was unquestionably one of the most memorable, successful, and fun events held in this term.

Fall Rally South 2017

November 11th was the day that all the Owls had been waiting for: Fall Rally South 2017! Division 38 West was able to gather in one of the front sections at the Golden Bear Theater in Six Flags Magic Mountain for the first session to show off all their spirit. With all the $1,400 raised, the division was able to participate in the auction to buy our favorite, LTG Aubrey Gilman, as well as 38 East’s Sophia Kim! Throughout the session, the Owls chanted in support of all other divisions and stayed hype during the auction by yelling “Who!” After making it through 3 rounds, it was announced that Division 38 West had won the spirit stick! Great job to all the Owls who learned the cheers and screamed their hearts out to help us stand-out! 6

Recognitions

Member of the Month: Kylie Herrera

Kylie Herrera is a member who stands out in the Division because of her immense love, passion, and dedication for Key Club. She is a sophomore this year and her involvement truly started at RTC as a freshman. Ever since she showed up in an Eeyore onesie at Region Training Conference, she fully put her heart and devotion to Key Club and this was evident at every single event that she attended. Her smile and energy have the ability to to brighten anyone’s day. It’s amazing to go to events and see her because she truly embodies our core values. Division 38 West is so lucky to have such an outgoing and active member. Once all of the seniors are gone, Kylie will ensure that we are in good hands.

Officer of the Month: Sabrina Rashid

This is Sabrina’s second term serving as President for TPAA. She stood out in the Division ever since her first term as a sophomore. She took initiative and ran again her senior year and ever since then, she has completely shattered my expectations of a president. Not only has she massively increased members and participation from her Club, she has been a huge help to the entire division. Sabrina helped coordinate one of the division’s largest events, the Awake-A-Thon (which was hosted at her school thanks to her planning). She has become one of our most well-known presidents due to her huge involvement in service projects. Sabrina inspires others through her drive, commitment, and exuberant personality. She has completely changed her home club for the better and this change has impacted the rest of the Division too.

Advisor of the Month: Ms. Felecia Gray

Ms. Gray has been such a blessing to have as an advisor. She has been a chaperone for every single division event that we have held this year. Though she had a child earlier this year, she still dedicates her life to Key Club by bringing her child to our events. Even during our loud spirit sessions and Region Training Conference she has the ability to tend to her baby as well as her members. This is so inspiring because it truly shows how much she loves the members. The members of the Division look up to her as a mom of their own and we have been so lucky to have her as a advisor, mentor, mom, and friend. She was the reason that we were able to host our Awake-A-Thon since she scheduled everything and secured our location. Every event goes well because we have Ms. Gray around.

Club of the Month: TPAA

TPAA has really shined during the month of November. Their member increase and member involvement has been incredible! Not only were they the hosts of the Awake-AThon, they have been very active throughout this entire month. TPAA had a large turnout at both Fall Rally and the Thanksgiving Basket Service Event at Grace Resources! They not only show spirit, but they show so much passion for this organization as a whole. It has been a joy to welcome so many new members from this club to the division. This club has such a bright future and their growth has only just begun.

DNE'S Closing Message Hey Owls! What an absolutely amazing month we’ve had this November! Awake-A-Thon was such a great bonding experience that was totally worth my messed up sleep schedule. Then, we had Fall Rally South the very next weekend! Honestly, I was shocked by how much money we had ended up raising over these past 6 months as a division for PTP! This just goes to show how working together as a team and trying new things, such as an overnight DCM, can help us soar above our goals. Not to mention the icing on the cake, we won the spirit stick! It was an absolutely surreal moment to hear our division announced as the winner; some of us were even crying because we could not believe that we did THAT! Also, we are halfway through the 2017-2018 term! Serving as your Division News Editor has resulted in some long, stressful nights staying up to work on my submissions, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. This is, without a doubt, the best experience I’ve had throughout high school and has only intensified my passion for Key Club. I hope that I continue to see all of you at our division events, even thought Fall Rally season is over! I promise that there is still SOO much in store for the next half of the term! Here’s to yet another massively successful, fun-filled month! Until next time, Owls! ~ Mariah Hernandez Division News Editor
