Message From Your LTG Happy Holidays Owls! Finals are FINALLY over and the countdown to Christmas begins! What an amazing time of the year to give back to everyone you meet! I had so much fun at the Holiday Jam with you all this past week serving food and greeting people. It’s my absolute FAVORITE time of the year! This time of the year is also very bittersweet because it is my last month before Conclave, meaning you will be electing a new LTG elect in just a few short weeks. I hope that as a family we are able to cherish these last four months together. I am so thankful to serve such a loving and dedicated Division. No matter what you celebrate during this winter season, please know that I will be thinking of you all! While you are all on break, I hope that you each get to relax and enjoy true family time. Remember, the best way to spread Christmas cheer is serving all from far to near (get the Elf reference). With Wings of Service, Aubrey Gilman 3

December DCM

For the December DCM, D38W decided to help out at our local Antelope Valley Hospital for their annual Holiday Jam on December 16th. The Holiday Jam is an event set up by the hospital and the AV's Children's Center to bring joy to all children and families in the community, especially those who are underprivileged. Key Clubbers joined other volunteers as they served food, handed out many donated books and toys, helped the kids with arts and crafts, regulated games, and much more. Though the Holiday Jam called for much hard work and organization, it was definitely worth the cheerful smiles it brought upon the the children's faces. Thank you to all of the Owls who came to help out this amazing cause! 4

Club Updates SOAR High School In the past month, SOAR Key Clubbers joined their fellow Owls in bagging food at Grace Resource Center, volunteered at the Central City Palmdale Parade to carry banners, and assisted their school by playing icebreakers with 4th graders who were on a tour of their campus. [Submitted by Michael Vallin]

Quartz Hill High School Quartz Hill Key Club recently found out that they raised $1000 for Trick-Or-Treat for UNICEF! Additionally, they held a Friendsgiving and a White Elephant Gift Exchange to bond as an Ohana this holiday season. [Submitted by Aleksandra Brajanovska] 6

Club Updates Paraclete High School For the month of December, Paraclete Key Club partnered with their school's administration for a service project that will donate stockings full of candy, Christmas cards, and personal hygiene items for the LA County Challenger Memorial Youth Camps. [Submitted by Mackenzie Fernandez]

Highland High School The Key Clubbers of Highland High School held yet another succesful campus clean-up in the previous month! They also planned many Christmas themed service projects for to do this month. [Submitted by Arieanne De Guzman] 7

Recognitions Member of the Month: Isaiah Han

Isaiah is one of Highland Key Club’s members and he is so dedicated to our organization, yet so humble! During the recent Holiday Jam event, Isaiah was he only D38W member to stay from the beginning until the end of the WHOLE event. He was the head chef’s go-to guy and was constantly performing tasks without breaks and without recognition. Besides this, Isaiah always has a very positive spirit and outgoing personality at every single event that he attends and that is why he deserves this month’s award!

Officer of the Month: Aleksandra Brajanovska

From Quartz Hill Key Club, D38W’s officer of the month is Aleksandra Brajanovska, QHHS club’s Tech Editor! Aleks’s involvement has helped our club in so many ways, and her love and participation in service projects has been growing ever since she joined! She even participated in the December DCM that was held on Saturday and helped out by volunteering at the AV Hospital’s Holiday Jam. Also, as a Tech Editor, she leaves a record of the club’s Key Club memories through articles and visuals. Aleksandra is a true member of our Ohana, and we cannot wait to see her love for this club grow even more in the near future.

Kiwanis Advisor of the Month: Mr. Richard Olmstead

As always, Mr. Olmstead has been a source of consistent, invaluable support for D38W. He is always available to answer questions and provide guidance when needed. We are very appreciative of everything Mr. Olmstead does for us!

Faculty Advisor of the Month: Mrs. Joanie Haynes

Mrs. Haynes is always a joy to have at events and she is always so supportive of members from clubs all over the Division! She advises Littlerock High School, and despite the far distance, she manages to get her students to most of our events! We are so lucky to have her as a mentor and family member of D38W!

Club of the Month: Quartz Hill

Spotlight on Service December Focus: Providing Basic Needs While your schedule may be packed, remember to make time to give to those who are less fortunate. This December, help provide families with the basic needs to survive.

Fundraising Ideas: Gift Wrapping for Christmas: Contact your local mall to see if your club can set up a booth to wrap presents for shoppers. After you wrap the gifts, ask them if they would like to make a donation to your cause.

Holiday Grams: Have a booth at lunch on your school's campus to sell holiday grams. These grams could include chocolate, candy canes, cards, or even fuzzy socks! 10

Service Project Ideas: Letters for the Holidays: Get together with your club to make letters to Santa that include wish-lists or holiday messages. Then, visit your local Macy's and put the letters in the BELIEVE Campaign mailbox. For every letter put in, Macy's will donate $1 to the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Supply Drive: Host a supply drive and collect clothes, toys, canned goods, and hygienic supplies for a local organization in need. Set up boxes at different locations, such as libraries, your school, or grocery stores. No Sew Blankets: Make no-sew blankets with your club to spread the warmth of service. You can donate them to shelters or hospitals. Directions can be found online on how to make them from Project Linus. Ideas by the CNH Service Projects Committee

DNE'S Closing Message Hey Owls! The holidays are among us! Look around at all the lights, the cheer, and just how lucky we are to be alive right now! Especially after volunteering with you all at the Holiday Jam and seeing the community come together to celebrate this joyful time, I’m very much in the holiday spirit! As the 2018 approaches, I hope that you reflect back on this year and are proud of all of your achievements and, of course, the many hours of service you have dedicated for the betterment of the world. If you feel as though you fell short, make a resolution to be a better Key Clubber! Whether it’s promising to participate in more service projects or make more friends in other clubs, there is always room for improvement! In general, there is always some way to become a better version of yourself. I hope you all have a wonderful break filled with relaxation, family time, and happiness! I cannot wait to see what this new year holds for all of us! Until next year, Owls! ~ Mariah Hernandez Division News Editor
