Greetings from our Lt. Governor MERRY CHRISTMAS OWLS! Boy does time go by fast! I remember when we are all just starting the new school year and now it's almost time for the year to end and to start a new chapter in our lives. For my last "Letter From the LTG," I would like to take the time and say I truly am so proud of all of you guys and girls. I feel like our division has grown so much and it's all because of each and every one of you who has shown your dedication, passion, and diligence. The past 3 years or so, I don't think anyone would ever have been able to predict the tremendous results our division has been able to come to. We have raised $1000+ for Pediatric Trauma Program, $400+ for Eliminate Project, achieved over 500 hours of service, and been able to make it to the Final Round of the Spirit Battle at Fall Rally South. I am so proud of our division and honestly couldn't have asked for a better division to serve. I am grateful and appreciate all of you. Thank you all for becoming such a big part of my life and my heart. I can't wait to see all of you soon at our Help Save the Philippines Dance and Rose Float Decorating! A big thanks to all of you who were able to attend our Joint Kiwanis/Key Club DCM as well as serve alongside with us at Grace's Resource Center. You guys and girls are phenomenal and never fail to amaze me with your unwavering passion and great potential. Please enjoy our wonderful Christmas Edition Division Newsletter made by our Division Newsletter Editor, Jeanie Paek and Merry Christmas everyone! Deed of Kindness: Tell 3 people that you love and cherish how much you mean to them and how grateful you are to have them in your life.

Cecilia Nguyen Letter from the Editor

Hi there Owls! It is nearing the end of 2013! Hope you are all keeping up with your school work and taking part in many activities! We did an amazing job at Fall Rally South! We as a division raised over $1000 for Pediatric Trauma Program! Congratulations and give yourselves a pat on the back! We now have Candidate Training Conference, the division dance to help the survivors of Typhoon Haiyan, and Rose Float Decorations coming up! These events sound exciting, right? Make sure to mark your calendars! In the meantime, remember to keep up with your school work as well as engage in Key Club activities. And remember, TRY NOT TO PROCRASTINATE! :) Have a GOLDEN month and until next time, Jeanie Paek 2013–2014 Division Newsletter/Technology Editor

Event Recaps Fall Rally South Recap: This year, our division did an A M A Z I N G job at Fall Rally South. Not only were we able to raise over $1000 for Pediatric Trauma Program but also were able to advance to the final round of the spirit session! Both these events were a first for our division and most definitely marked a place in division history. Thank you to everyone who participated in our adventures to Fall Rally and I hope everyone had a blast! Hope to see you there next year!

November DCM Recap: At our November Division Council Meeting, we had the opportunity to experience what it was like to be at a Kiwanis DCM as well. With the Kiwanians Division 38 West was able to participate in several engaging ice breakers and a service project in which we were able to create decorative and uplifting labels for water bottles that were to be distributed to children throughout the city. These labels included many phrases such as: “You are a star!” and “Do your best! You’re doing great!” Participating in a service project with the Division 38 Kiwanis was a great opportunity. Kudos to those that were able to join us for such an eventful DCM! Hope you join us for the next one!

Owl-standing Members of the Month Littlerock: Megan Loucks “She has supported our club in more ways than one. She isn’t afraid to learn new things and always learns from the mistakes she makes.”

SOAR: Alex O'Callihan “We have chosen Alex because of the spirit he shows. He participates in every club activity and always gives 100% with everything that he does. Alex always asks me what he can do to help instead of waiting and being told what to do. Even though he is a newer member to Key Club, he is one of our most active and committed members. He also plans to run for Ltg. and I hope that one day he will be elected because he truly has a pure heart for service.”

She has also contributed spirit and service ideas to the club and is stepping into roles of leadership in our club.”

Lancaster: Yasmine Jafery “She has attended all the cabinet meetings and has been one of my right handed people. She helps me distribute information and reminders to club members via text message. As a result I would be honored to nominate her for her hard work as VP. 5

Owl-standing Members of the Month The Officer of the Month for our division is Amber Ramos!

What inspired you to join Key Club in the first place? “What inspired me to join Key Club was that I would be able to help my community with my best friend. She is the reason why I enjoyed Key Club when I first joined. Now I enjoy Key Club for my own reasons and joining Key Club was the best choice I could have ever made.” What are some accomplishments you have made so far in your term? “Some accomplishments that I have made are making 300+ hours in community service. Key Club has helped me venture and find places where I would enjoy to volunteer. I’m really happy as well that Key Club had started again at Pete Knight High School and I was able to join.” What are some goals for the rest of your term? “My goals for the rest of the term is achieve more hours and have fun with all the Key Club members! I hope I get to meet everyone!” CNH District | Region 5 | Division 38 West

Owl-standing Members of the Month What have you learned as Key Clubber? “As a Key Clubber I have learned that our community is important. I’ve also learned that this organization helps so many people and that we are all important people that can make a change. Key Club has taught me how to ice skate, roller blade, and roller skate.” What do you like to do in your free time and who is your favorite celebrity? “I like to spend my free time playing soccer or reading books. I also enjoy playing video games with my little brother because that’s his favorite thing to do. My favorite celebrity is Adam Sandler.

Congratulations, Amber! Keep up the Owl-standing work! Remember that elections must be conducted within the months of January and March! This time span will allow elected officers to meet the on-time registration deadline to attend convention, which there will be workshops that cater to their specific training needs in order to help them with their term.
