Quartz Hill “The key club car wash was an awesome event with some fantastic people! Unlike QH's previous car washes, we had an addition of about 20 members there to come help us! When the day was over we were all exhausted (not to mention sweaty), but all our hard work paid off in the end when we made a profit of $467 and new friends! I'm looking forward to our next events and to have even more people come support us!” — Tristine Nguyen

Quartz Hill “The car wash was a great opportunity for new and old key clubbers to see how fun it is to spend time together. And like since we love to spend time together we are more willing to help the community as a whole. And through the car wash we were able to build new friendships. “ — Angella Dijamco

August Division Council Meeting “The Scavenger Hunt DCM was not only one of the best DCM put together by our division, but it also is one of my favorite memory of key club! I thoroughly enjoyed putting together the game, and it was rewarding to see so many officers and general members attend. I had a lot of fun meeting new people and saying hello to those I haven't seen in a while! It definitely was a great way to start off the school year. “ — Kelly Lee

Kiwanis Duck Races “The Kiwanis Duck Race was a completely fun experience, because I got to wear the duck costume. The costume attracted so many little kids which allowed me to take lots of pictures with them and give away lots of hugs, completely not in a pedophile way. I also liked releasing all the rubber ducks to their freedom in the lazy river. Even though there was such a traumatizing amount of ducks, it was fun to go retrieve all the ducks back from the water. Yellow rubber ducks were everywhere.” — Jane Kim

Club Members o Eastside: Bernadette Saromo “The EHS Key Club board chose Bernadette as member of the month because she is an outstanding Key Clubber who is always taking notes and clarifying everything during passing periods. She's always asking questions that I know everyone has but is afraid of asking. Eastside's Key Club is truly lucky to have her as one of our many outstanding Key Clubbers.”

Desert Sands: Salomon Palacios “Desert Sands Charter High School has chosen Salomon Palacios for our member of the month. He is a very loyal and trustworthy member. He always participates in our fundraisers, events, and service projects. He shows strong leadership skills, contributes in all activities with his fellow key club members and also is being considered to be our new V.P.” 11

bers of the Month f the Month Highland: Jason Barajas “Jason has gone above and beyond in his job as secretary and continuously helps in the planning of all Key Club events. He has attended every Key Club meeting and has taken the time and initiative to handle Key Club duties outside of these meetings as well. Jason is an active and spirited member who has great meeting and event attendance and is doing an amazing job in his position of Highland Key Club Secretary.“

Quartz Hill: Max Tervort “Max has always supported Key Club even when we went through a lot of struggles; he attends board meetings so that he can contribute to the club even though he isn't an officer and he takes the initiative to help out when he can. He can't always attend events but he always tries his best to participate and give back to the community. “ 12

Club Members o SOAR: Ariaunna Jones “We have chosen Ariaunna Jones as our member of the month because she has been consistent on attending our weekly meeting and she has participated in the duck race fundraiser and she was able to sell $100 worth of ducks! “

Sherman Burroughs: Gillian Brannon “Gillian is a Junior in our high school who stepped up and took the initiative to be in charge of our PTP Bake Sale this year and has taken the time to bake one of our selling items, delicious cupcakes, organize flyers, plans, banners, and has helped me in kicking off the start of the year with a strong bake sale. This is also her first year in Key Club and to be in charge of and organize event in a club that she's still trying to get the ropes of, shows to a lot of her peers just how strong-willed she is.”

bers of the Month f the Month Littlerock: Alandra Galvan “She was the only one that sold twenty ducks in our entire club and she introduced the ducks her church, which is a first. She does in fact show love for her club, and amongst the other seniors, she is the most active. “

Club of the Month

Congratulations to Eastside High School for being selected as club of the month! 14

New Owl Interviews Lauren Driver, a junior at Highland High School and a new Key Clubber this year, says that in the past month of coming to general meetings, she has had a wonderful experience filled with ice breakers and new people. Also, she expresses that “It's nice to be around people who are so nice and positive all the time”. What Lauren hopes to get out of Key club is a more selfless attitude, community service, fun experiences, and to make a positive change in her community. The things that she is more looking foreword to are trips like Fall Rally South, DCON, and ICON. She also looks foreword to helping out in fundraisers for PTP and MNT while building new life long friendships.

Lauren Driver In the midst of all the new and old Key clubbers, Alma Rodriguez of Highland High School seemed to be on the more introverted group. When Alma was asked what her experience in Key Club has been so far, she responded with a gentle “Its been good, there's a lot of people here and it almost seems like they've known each other for a long time”. What Alma is hoping to get out of Key Club is community service that can let her make a difference in her community. Also, she is excited for trips with all the Key clubbers and meeting other people from the division and district. Over all, she's excited to join the Kiwanis family!

Service project idea of the month

Through The Eliminate Project, the Kiwanis family will change the world. We’ll help raise US$110 million to save or protect millions of women and their future babies from maternal and neonatal tetanus—and protect the connection that this deadly disease destroys. For the past two decades, Key Club International has raised more than US$6 million through Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF. Since 2011, the funds have supported The Eliminate Project—resulting in more than US$1.1 million to help save or protect women and babies from maternal and neonatal tetanus. Let us, Division 38 West, take part in this worldwide impact! For more information regarding The Eliminate Project, please visit:
