Furthermore, I would like to remind everyone to get their membership to begin paying for dues as soon as possible! If you get 15 paid dues members by November 1st, you will get the early bird dues patch for your home club’s banner! Also, be prepared to start organizing your school for Fall Rally South! Division 38 West wants to be well prepared during this event and show the other Key Club divisions what we’re made of! I already have a great feeling about this year guys! Let’s keep pushing ourselves up to the top! Programmed for Service, Victor Ly Divisional Technology Editor

Above, you can see the Highland Key Club’s camp site; Division 38 West Key Clubbers James Kim, Erin Reyes, and Joshua Villaflor participating in a game of Ninja to socialize; and Key Clubbers Andrea Mathijissen and Nancy Maldonado walking laps on the field for the American Cancer Society!

On September 10-11, Key Clubbers joined the community of Palmdale in Relay for Life (sponsored by the American Cancer Society) at Highland High School’s football and track field. Many Highland Key Clubbers stayed the night despite the torrential downpour during the afternoon. The HHS Key Clubbers were joined during the day by Quartz Hill and Littlerock Key Clubbers!

Duck Tagging at Drytown was a great experience! It felt wonderful to be part of such a large fundraiser and project. The Key Club table was one of the tagging stations, meaning that after the ducks were cleaned, we placed the ID labels on the bottoms of each rubber duck. The Key Club team worked so cohesively together; we were the fastest tagging group by far! We tagged many hundreds of ducks! We even received cool yellow Duck Race shirts. :) The Duck Races were a blast! Paraclete's Secretary Josef Madrigal couldn't wait for it to be his turn to wear the duck costume! He had a fun time posing for pictures and dancing with the crowd. Paraclete had a good showing, with 11 members showing up. They were a super spirited group and especially enjoyed being in the business duck parade. The group was singing and cheering from the time they were dumping ducks into the river to the time collection of the ducks was over after the races. It was a great club-bonding time as well as a great opportunity to serve the community!

The 38 West Key Clubbers worked hard at tagging and labeling the rubber ducks with stickers in preparation for the duck race!

Key Clubbers who attended the Duck Race at Drytown were given the opportunity to take turns in the duck costume and roam around advertising the Duck Race and Kiwanis. There was a lot of picture taking involved with the excited Key Clubbers!

OTC

At the Officer Training Conference on September 17, Key Clubbers from around the Antelope Valley participated in the workshops and icebreakers of OTC and the September DCM. Officers went to their respective training workshops while the general membership had workshops on leadership, Key Club 101, and service projects. Everyone met new friends and had a blast!

PTP Fundraising

Hello, D38West Robots!

This is James Chung, Highland Club Treasurer and Divisional PTP Fundraising Committee Chair! As you may already know, our club organization, Key Club International, has been raising money for PTP (Pediatric Trauma Program). Did you know? -Unintentional injury is the #1 killer of children age 14 and under in the U.S. -Unintentional injury kills more children every year than any other cause - including disease, homicide, and suicide!

-90% of these unintentional injuries can be prevented. The Kiwanis Cali-Nev-Ha Foundation works closely with our partner hospitals to provide funding to train pediatric doctors, nurses and first responders, to purchase much-needed pediatric medical equipment and to create or expand community outreach programs. All of this is only possible due to the generous support of our clubs and members. Donations earmarked for PTP are spent in three major areas: grants to our partner hospitals; grants to Kiwanis and Service Leadership Program clubs; and PTP safety items which are available for purchase by the Kiwanis family at a subsidized cost. Your club can help prevent unintentional injuries in your community by sponsoring a service project on topics such as, Bicycle Safety, Bicycle Safety Helmets, Booster Seats, Child Abuse Prevention, Child Passenger Safety, Child Safety, etc.

What is “Happy Dollar? It is a way of collecting a little bit of money per meetings. Every single time if somebody interrupts while someone is talking, or somebody cussing; they will have to put in change or dollar. It can add up really fast! (Also, you can make it optional for members to just donate money at will and get some brownie points. ;3)

Fundraising for PTP can be easy as 1,2,3! Some of the ideas are: 1.) Bake Sale 2.) Charging a little extra for dues/shirts 3.) Selling Key Club related merchandises 4.) Happy dollar

There are many, many other ideas on raising money for PTP, Robots. In the sake of the future leaders, future members, and our future; let us help prevent their unwanted deaths.
