LTG’s Message Hello Owls! With the new school year in session, I hope you all are having a great back-to-school experience so far, adapting to your schedule and getting back into the rhythm of the year. You may feel stressed and overwhelmed at times, however, it is imperative to remember to breathe and stay focused! Please try to keep Key Club in mind as we transition back into the school year. Make new friends and introduce them to Key Club! What better way to start a friendship than to bond over the shared love for service? Although we may want to sleep in on the valued weekends, try to dedicate these days to serving your home, school, and community. Although you may miss the 2 extra hours of sleep, the feeling of making a difference in the community is irreplaceable. As for new members, WELCOME. I cannot wait to meet every one of you and see you become a part of the Key Club Ohana. I sincerely hope that your Key Club journey will be truly fantastic. Last but not least, our Region Training Conference is quickly approaching! At RTC, you will be able to meet new Key Clubbers from our sister division, 38 East, in a day full of training. Here you will gain new tools and skills to bring back to your respective club, as well as make memories that you will keep forever. I hope to see you there! Save the date for October 8th at Serrano High School. If there are any questions, comments or concerns, please let me know! I would love to chat and help you. Serving to Make a Change, JiMin Margarett Lee Division 38 West Lieutenant Governor 2016-2017

Division 38 West held a fundraiser for the Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP) on July 20th at Shakey’s. Members and other customers gave their receipts in order to donate 25% of the proceeds from their purchase to our division. We raised $69.14!

On Saturday, July 30th from 12pm- 6 pm, Division 38 West hosted Alex’s Lemonade Stand at the Bex Bandstand on Lancaster Boulevard. Several members endured the heat to support this meaningful cause. We raised $86.38 for childhood cancer research and travel funds for cancer patients!

Ian Jonassen and Noah Hughes volunteering! The mission of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation is “to raise money [for] and awareness of childhood cancer causes, primarily research into new treatments and cures.”

The organization also aims “to encourage and empower others, especially children, to get involved and make a difference for children with cancer.”

Spotlight on SERVICE! September Focus: Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP) It’s never too early to begin planning next month’s service projects! Consider organizing an event in September to benef it PTP! PTP

What is PTP? Pediatric Trauma, or unintentional injury, remains the leading cause of death among children ages 14 and under in the United States. More children die from unintentional injuries than all other childhood diseases combined. In addition, injury results in the deaths of approximately fifteen children per day in our country. Many of these deaths can be prevented! The Pediatric Trauma Program is working to save lives through raising awareness, providing funding to train pediatric doctors, nurses and first responders, purchasing much‐needed pediatric medical equipment, and creating or expanding community outreach programs.

‘16 1616-’17 CNH Goal: $185,000

Recognitions Member of the Month– Month– Chole Salzman The member of the month is Chole Salzman! This August she has been a great Key Clubber and role model to everyone. She has participated in every event this month and continues to keep serving. An event she attended this month was the Joe Davis Airpark clean-up where she woke up super early to help clean the Airpark. She always has a smile on her face and is always ready to help out her community. Even when there are not many community service opportunities, she still always offers to help as much as she can. When the officers were setting up for club rush this month, Chole went out of her way to help out. Chole is full of spirit and she will undoubtedly grow further. Overall, Chole has been outstanding this month, and she always stays true to her Ohana!

Officer of the MonthMonth-Sophie Hoffman Sophie Hoffman is a secretary serving for Sherman Burroughs, and it is an immense honor to be recognizing her as the Officer of the Month of August. She has constantly strived to improve her MRF to ensure that she is providing the division with correct information with what her club has been participating in the past months.

Recognitions Club of the MonthMonth-Quartz Hill Quartz Hill has been undergoing some tough changes since the president moved to another state. Despite the harsh start on the school year, the officers are adjusting to their new positions and are moving steadily back to their regular schedules. Quartz Hill will accomplish great things this term!
