Message from your LTG
Hey Owls! Our first training conference of the year has now passed, Officer Training Conference. I hope that all of you that attended learned new information, made a new friend, and discovered how far you will go for service! Summer has officially begun, owls! I hope that you are all still serving our community despite the heat. These next few months will be all about getting ready for the incoming members that the new school year will bring and prepping for our larger events planned for this term. Be sure to stay in contact with your home club and your DLT during these summer months and I can't wait until I see you all at our next event: the Division fundraiser at The Habit! I love you all and OWL see you guys soon! With Wings of Service, Aubrey Gilman Division 38 West Lieutenant Governor
May DCM Recap
Last month's May DCM was the first of the new 2017-2018 term! Many Key Clubbers came out to Marie Kerr Park to meet their new DLT, participate in an ice breaker, and make socks and bibs! Towards the beginning of the DCM, the Division Leadership Team officially introduced themselves to everyone. All members of the team shared their name and what school they're from. LTG Aubrey even insisted that they share their go-to dance move! Next, it was time to play the icebreaker that Spirit Coordinators Kevin, Dean, and Raven had prepared. Each person was partnered randomly with another and the pairs would have to find as many common facts with each other before time ran out. Turns out, Service Project Coordinator Hannah and Highland Vice President Pauline had much in common, seeing that they won this game!
Finally, it was time to focus on the service project! The Owls made non-slip socks to donate to a retirement home and bibs for special needs adults. Attendees of the DCM were asked to bring t-shirts, socks, and puffy paint needed to make the socks and bibs. They brought ample amounts of supplies and creativity, leading to a successful service project! By the end of the DCM, there were countless pairs of colorfully decorated socks as well as numerous bibs! Thank you to all those who came out to May DCM to lend a helping hand and have fun!

Recognitions Member of the Month: Lindsay Onofre For the month of June, Lindsay Onofre, a member from TPAA, is our division's Member of the Month. She has shown amazing contribution towards her home, school, and community. Out of the few members who continuously showed up to meetings throughout the key club term and have stuck with the club since the very beginning, Lindsay has committed to making sure of her presence within the Key Club community. She really puts forth lots of efforts to ensuring the positive environment within the key club community and does an amazing job at it! She truly deserves this June Member of the Month!
Officer of the Month: Michael Vallin Michael Vallin is this month's Officer of the Month! Michael Vallin is an incoming senior and even though it is his first time on the board, he has went beyond to make sure to show his Key Club Spirit! It is an honor to have Michael on the board because he always speaks his opinion and wants what is best for the members. He really SOAR'ed this month by frequently posting on our Instagram page to keep members updated and always giving everything his all. Along with that, he attended a service project during the summer where he volunteered with the Kiwanis to show his support to veterans. Michael is a wonderful officer and I know he has more ideas to make this term unforgettable!
Kiwanis Advisor of the Month: Richard Olmstead
Faculty Advisor of the Month: Felecia Gray Club of the Month: Eastside High School For a club that has not been very active over the past few years, Eastside has truly shown initiative since this new term has begun! This new officer board has been really productive and has communicated well with our DLT. They had their board attend OTC where they were very attentive, fun, and asked a lot of questions! We cannot wait to see where this club will go this year and how much it will contribute to the division.
June DCM AND OTC
Thank you to all those who attended this month's DCM and Officer Training Conference! We hope you had fun and learned a thing or two! A recap of this event will be featured in July's newsletter.
DNE's Closing Letter
Hello Owls! It’s finally summer! I hope you all did well on your finals and finished off this year strong! Even if you didn’t do as well as you’d hoped, keep in mind that we’re human and it's okay to make mistakes sometimes! Try not to stress so much about school since, after all, we are on vacation now! Spend this time doing what you love and what makes you happy! Speaking of things you love, I strongly encourage you all to KEY-p up the hard work with service! Attend as many DCM’s and events your home club or the DLT have planned during break. You could even get a group of friends and go volunteer on your own time! Just stay active in your community this summer! On one last note, thank you to all those who came to our Moana-themed OTC! Hopefully you learned some tips on how to BEE a great leader and make the most of this term. Remember that your fellow owls will all be here for you with every turn you take, every trail you track, and every path you make! Time for me to go "aue aue" (and stop with these Moana puns)! Until next month, owls! ~ Mariah Hernandez Division News Editor
